The latest minor moves from around baseball…
- The Blue Jays announced that right-hander Elvis Luciano has been released. Luciano was a Rule 5 Draft selection in 2018, and he posted a 5.35 ERA over 33 2/3 innings in his 2019 rookie season — not great numbers, though rather respectable considering Luciano was 19 years old and had never pitched above rookie ball. Luciano spent the entire 2020 season on the injured list for unspecified reasons, and then battled more injuries this year at Double-A New Hampshire, though he posted a 3.41 ERA over 34 1/3 innings and 11 starts.

Elvis has left the building

nooo not the first player born in 2000!
dipsanddingers
Arizona should pick him up
Monkey’s Uncle
I guess he’s not “Lucky” Luciano.

The Reds did this with Stuart Turner a couple years ago. Why use that roster spot all year and block another player with someone that you don’t feel will have a future on your club?

Post more Padres news please.
That dumpster fire is fun to read about.

They all hate the GM in San Diego but he got Tatis in one of his trades so he’s there forever.

Everyone craps on Rick Hahn for that trade, but no one knew what Tatis was going to become. Sox jumped early to upgrade their rotation with a guy who had proven he could do it in the post season. The Sox had the best bullpen in the 1st month of that season, and Shields, even tho he wasn’t pitching great, was an upgrade over the guy they traded, Erik Johnson. Tatis was a sweetener for an accomplished pitcher.
Of course Shields continued to Trend downward, the Sox bullpen completely imploded, become the worst in baseball, and Tatis almost immediately started flying up the MLB 100 pipeline.

surely there’s something more to this. he was performing well in AA and still well under the average age for the level. sounds like the Gohara situation. talented young pitcher battles mysterious injuries, then gets released while still quite young.
I Like Big Bunts
Just 21 and posted good minor league numbers. Easy pick up for any organization.

murder suspect or something?
Michael Chaney
I still don’t know how he was eligible for the Rule 5 draft in the first place. He signed at 16 and spent only three years as a professional before he got picked.
DarkSide830
his original contract was voided and he resigned with the D-Backs again within a year. that waives the waiting period. same thing that happened to Wei-Chung Wang i believe.

I appreciate the clarification, thank you

Unspecified reason for injury list placement last year. He may have problems elsewhere- perhaps between the ears.
jimmertee
Luciano has a great arm and is still young. The BlueJays invested a whole year hanging on to the guy and now a release? Doesn’t make sense. We need more information.
He’ll be picked up for sure by someone else.
Peart of the game
Luciano probably will get sent to the bullpen if another team signs him to a minor league deal. Or he could get signed by an NPB team looking to develop a young pitcher.

Something has to be wrong with him. Maybe some mental health issues. There’s no way the Jays would keep a guy who never played above rookie ball a whole year just to put him on the “IL” and then release him. If this is the case hopefully he finds the help he needs. If not this is just confusing

Time for another Elvis era in Texas!
