The Brewers announced that right-hander Jake Cousins has been reinstated from the COVID-19 injury list. To create roster room, right-hander Sal Romano has been designated for assignment.
Cousins returns after the mandatory 10-day quarantine period following a positive coronavirus test. The Brewers still have six more players on their COVID list, but between Cousins, Hunter Strickland, and Christian Yelich all returning in recent days, the club is slowly starting to make its way back from this outbreak.
The positive COVID-19 result was unwelcome interruption to what has been an eye-opener of rookie season for the 27-year-old Cousins, who has yet to allow a run over 14 1/3 innings out of Milwaukee’s bullpen. The hard-throwing righty has an impressive 37.7% strikeout rate and an even 50% grounder rate, as opposing batters have managed only an .091 batting average in 53 plate appearances. After a few nondescript seasons in the Nationals’ farm system, Cousins has seen his strikeout rates spike since joining the Brewers in 2019.
Romano was claimed off waivers from the Yankees just last week, as the Brew Crew looked for some fresh arms in the midst of their coronavirus outbreak. After tossing one inning in one game for Milwaukee, Romano has now banked appearances with three different clubs in 2021 — the right-hander has a combined 5.63 ERA over 24 innings with the Brewers, Yankees, and Reds, with 20 2/3 of those innings coming in Cincinnati.

My brain thinks Sal Romano is Sal Fasano
LordD99
Did Romano even make it off the jet before he was DFA’d?
DHoags
He pitched an inning with Milwaukee, did you not read the article??

Ok by my account they should still be able to bring up another pitcher for a doubleheader today so bring up Barker too and dfa Vogel. I like him but time to move on same with Shaw and JBJ .
MannyPineappleExpress9
They owe JBJ too much money to just dump him.
As for Shaw and Vogelbach, they are both on the IL so they’re not really in the way, and both are cheap. No reason to cut ties until or unless they absolutely have to.

Yankees claim him again back to scranton

JBJ has a opt out after this season. My uneducated guess is there are no other teams Looking for a solid .160 hitter that would pay him $12 million for 2022.
MannyPineappleExpress9
That’s what I’m afraid of. I think the only hope is he somehow gets red hot to finish the year and thinks that’ll be enough to get him a couple extra years.
ballnglove
By “Red Hot”, do you mean he’d start batting .200?
MannyPineappleExpress9
Relatively speaking, that would be quite an improvement..however, I think it will take a bit more than that. I was thinking 5-6 weeks of .300+ avg/.350+ obp, a little power and knock in some runs. A few SB wouldn’t hurt.
…yeah, I know it’s asking a LOT.

Not happening. He’s toast. Lost all confidence forever.
Trade him now.

Yeah, as a Red I remember him showing flashes of being a pretty good pitcher, but you have to do it consistently to stick in the bigs. Good dude I hope he gets a chance somewhere and hits a stride.

Thank you. These guys with fresh arms have cost the Brewers a couple of games. I realize it’s a tough thing to come in and try to impress to keep a job but man those were some ugly innings. Hopefully these guys coming back off the Covid are fine and produce the way they were before.
Spike Hyzer
Norris and Curtiss, guys we paid for who didn’t have fresh arms, have also cost at least 2 and probably 3 games.
Why did we trade for those bums?

Why is Ashby getting another start tonight? Can’t be worse than last game, I guess. I would go with Lindblom. I know he’s a gas can, but not a full tanker! Sheesh
MannyPineappleExpress9
Lindblom has reportedly been doing quite well in AAA since the demotion. Whether he could have similar success at the big league level again who knows..but he supposedly “found something” so maybe worth a shot.

Yankees should reclaim him! He’s a Yankee fan and a New Yorker!
JOEY from QUEENS
Exactly !!! Which means he’s gonna do everything in his power to stay a New York Yankee including making sure he works just as hard as the hardest worker on that team if not harder, which will ultimately result in the Yankees getting the best out of him. I know the kids stats reflect that he’s been a middle of the pack starter at best over the last 5 years, but I wouldn’t of been so quick to pull the trigger to trade this kid like they did. Sometimes all it takes is the right fit under the right circumstances and the right circumstances obviously vary from person to person. I would’ve definitely let him finish the season just to see how much more I could of gotten out of him, but more importantly to find out what this kid may be capable of with all that motivation driving him. I say that because I know firsthand what all that determination could lead too especially, when it’s fueled by an enormous amount of motivation…Some people have absolutely no clue how much of a difference it makes.

Are you guys serious ? This kid Sal Romano has been
bouncing around for the past 5 years through the Triple AAA minor league system, every now and then getting called up for a few games. He’s still garnering enough interest from teams to keep him around because he’s talented. That’s a lot more than anyone else could say for about 90% of the other players in the rest of the minor leagues and Triple AAA system. I give this kid a lot of credit for breaking his ass, sticking with it, and not getting discouraged while trying to make it in a league that’s absolutely loaded with talent. I’m really pulling for this kid !!!
Spike Hyzer
He doesn’t look like he has any talent.
