The Yankees announced they’ve placed outfielder Tim Locastro on the 10-day injured list and selected the contract of fellow outfielder Ryan LaMarre.
The Locastro move isn’t a surprise, as he unfortunately tore his ACL last night, just a few weeks after coming over to the Bronx in a trade with the Diamondbacks. It was hoped that Locastro could shore up an outfield that had already been beset by injuries to Aaron Hicks and Clint Frazier. Sadly for both Locastro and the team, that will not be the case, as the injury will keep him out for the remainder of the season.
As for LaMarre, this is yet another swing in an up-and-down year with the club. His contract was selected back in May, though he wound up on the IL a few days later with a hamstring strain. In three games at the big league level, he couldn’t muster a hit in eight plate appearances.
After recuperating from the injury, he was then outrighted off the roster in June. At Triple-A this year, he has slashed a healthy .310/.403/.483, good enough for a wRC+ of 140. He will provide some depth behind an already-weakened outfield, competing for playing time with Brett Gardner, Greg Allen, Trey Amburgey, Tyler Wade and Hoy Jun Park.
A corresponding move will not be needed to create room on the 40-man for LaMarre because players on the COVID IL do not take up a roster spot. The Yankees’ recent outbreak of the virus led to six players being placed on the COVID IL, creating ample roster space.
Yankee fans throwing things at opposing players. LOL
I can hear old men banging their walkers screaming “27!… 27!… 27!”
You misspelled “fan” throwing “thing”.
Yankees “fans” throw “things” all the time. Been going on for years, for some reason, batteries were usually the fan favorite.
I thought that was Eagles fans that threw the batteries?
Ask Ken Griffey Jr, Jay Buhner, Jonathan Papelbon. Nope this is a Yankees stadium thing. Anyone else is just a copycat. Bleacher Creatures are the scum of the earth.
@dennyd- to bad you “can’t be thrown off of this site” for making no sense.
@dennyd
This is just my experience. So take it for what it worth. But: I have seen more of that stuff* in Midwest parks than I did as a kid going to The Stadium.
*for example, I was at “the hotdog game” when Twins fans threw hundreds of dollar hotdogs at the Yanks. Fans were throwing a lot more than just food that night too. I know people out here that brag about it.
I definitely understand how “no one cares” is your experience on the board, @lolmets.
Check it: some of us actually get along!
You clearly NEVER watched a game at Fenway. THE most classless and animalistic fans in all of baseball. Red Sox have won 3 more WS than the Yanks in the past 17 years and the fans still act like angry red-headed step children. That’s why most baseball fans hate them more than Yankee fans…DennyDick
raindog: We’re talking about throwing things. Which is incredibly dangerous for the players. Maybe you didn’t see, on Saturday a player was nailed in the back with a baseball thrown by a fan in Yankee Stadium.
But you guys aren’t mad at the a**hole that threw the ball, your mad at the guy pointing out this is dangerous, and not an isolated incident
I pointed out three other examples in past 25 years at YS. I checked for Fenway and can’t find any incidents of fan throwing stuff. I’m not saying it never happened, but, I’m sure there would be fewer incidents than YS.
As far as getting your feelings hurt by “classless” fans, I suggest buying something not in the last 10 rows of the bleachers. . . I’m on the ragdog.
Them some expensive hot dogs in twinville. Me thinks you are making this up. But, you ARE a yankee fan.
Google it, bro.
Pretty infamous event. I took my friends daughter to it. Was her first MLB game ever. She still talks about it.
LOL
Yankees need to play Florial everyday. If he’s not part of the future then move on from him.
and if he is why are you rushing him?
You know it’s gonna be a loooong summer when you find yourself wishing Clint -I can’t hit my way out of a wet paper bag -Frazier was in the lineup.
Cashman’s treatment of Florial borders on criminal. He is most talented prospect at Scranton. By a mile.
Still need skill regardless of talent level. A 29% k rate is not helping his cause.
Florial is putting up barely passable numbers at AAA and is still striking out way too much
Ronk. You are correct. Florial is missing the most talented AAA fastballs “by a mile”. And Deivy Garcia is having lots of issues there in Scranton too. The real fact is that teams Don’t bite anymore on the Yankees Prospects hype when they hear those names in trade talks. The numbers aren’t lying. That’s why nothing is happening in trade talks right now for the Yankees. Tim LoCastro????? Really?
@mlbnyyfan- I agree with you brother about Florial and Abreu. They are ready to help the Yankees. If there not going to play here, they should be moved so they can get an opportunity to play and help some other team out there.
I remember feeling bad for LaMarre after he was injured only days after getting called up, finally returning to the Majors, and then figuring he wouldn’t get another chance due to the severity of his injury and how long he was going to be out. A reminder that seemingly innocuous minor league depth moves teams announce in the offseason somehow always come back into play.
Indeed. I gave a shout out to him as well for never giving up.. then hurt. Glad to see his name again.
assumed Park or Allen would just stay after COVID guys came back, guess not. Happy for LaMarre tho who got injured right after he was called up earlier
Jake Marisnick, anyone?
I suggested this days ago to Ducky, along with Chirinos – much scoffing ensued
I am owning Ducky sooooo hard
Thoughts and prayers for him and his family
No updates on Clint? I think his career with the Yanks is pretty much over. I have a feeling he will thrive in another uniform, maybe Atlanta because obviously he needs a coach who will leave him out there and he may not be able to handle NY overall?
He’s not playing for anyone until they can get his vision straightened out. The last I heard on him, is they were trying contacts and such with no luck yet.
Where did you hear that, @Joe?
Thanks in advance.
If I remember correctly Ducky it was on Pinstripe Alley and NJ.com as well. From what I have seen they have ruled out vertigo but still not really sure exactly what’s going on with him.
Gotcha.
I clashed with the PSA staff from day one. The editor was fired for being far too gungho with the bans. I still read @Peter Brody over there sometimes, but the rest of the staff seem to write about everything *except* baseball.
Ya know?
They’ve gotten a bit better recently but the still don’t compare to RAB. Just for the record, I don’t post on PA.
I’m listening to Yanks radio right now; MUCH joy about Yanks finally playing REAL baseball, out of necessity, MUCH joy about it being FUN to watch.
Odor with the bunt single, next dude singles against shift, sac fly from Allen.
As – Susan? – said, get guys on base, good things can happen
I’m not seeing a subject or verb in your last sentence there, mutts.
Not that there’s anything wrong with that.
I wish I’d’ve realized how awesome RAB was when I was posting over there.
I don’t think he is even holding his own at the MiLB level
