The Dodgers expect to get ace Clayton Kershaw back sometime in August, per Bill Shaikin of the Los Angeles Times (via Twitter). That makes for a significant chunk of time away for Kershaw, who hit the injured list on July 17th. A couple of weeks time away isn’t jaw-dropping for most, but for one of if not the best pitcher of his generation, any amount of time away must concern the Dodger faithful. Kershaw owns a 3.39 ERA/2.99 FIP over 106 1/3 innings this season. Elsewhere in LA…
- Anthony Rendon isn’t feeling much better, though the Angels don’t classify his injury right now as serious. He won’t be back until the end of July or early part of August, per Jack Harris of the Los Angeles Times (via Twitter). Rendon hasn’t yet gotten going at the plate this season, suffering as he has from a number of ailments. His 98 wRC+ isn’t awful for most, but it’s far from what we’ve come to expect from Rendon.
- Mike Trout, Harris adds, has yet to receive a rehab assignment, though he continues to progress nicely. Despite missing Trout, the Angels have remained afloat in the playoff hunt with an even 45-45 record.

A certain amount of kudoos to the Angels for hanging in there without Trout and Rendon…think what would happen to the Red Sox without Devers and Bogey. Or that bizarre lineup the Yanks are putting out there this weekend.
Ducky Buckin Fent
Yeah, pretty rugged group the Yanks trotted out there last night.
I’m optimistic to a fault (just ask ex-wife #2) & even I wasn’t surprised we got blanked. Mercy.

I follow AL East team’s minor league systems pretty closely (watch them on milbtv, etc.), and I had no idea who the RF was….no clue, had to look him up. I thought the Orioles had more spunk last night, and they died months ago.

Rendon has proven to be yet another Arte Moreno failure
gbs42
You’re making that call way too early.
brandons-3
Because he will only get younger and less expensive as the contract goes on
gbs42
Because he’s scuffled for 60 games and has a long history of success.
Cosmo2
Definitely too early to make a judgement but my prediction is that his contract won’t age well so to speak. Never a good sign when a player shows signs of decline right around the age that decline generally sets in.
DODGER JR
Scuffled for 60 games and has been injured most of 2021. Right he is going to bounce back in 2022 lol. Artie needs starting pitching so let’s go get a 3B we really don’t need. With what he is paying Rendon he could have gotten 3 good to very good starting pitchers or relievers.
bkbk
He’ll be fine. He was RAKING the couple weeks before he got hurt. Soft tissue injuries are nagging. He will be all healed for next year and most his skills are those that age slow like contact, patience and power.
ldubdj
Why is it ALWAYS next year? Posts last year were saying the same thing, “aw, it’s a 60 game sample, he’ll be better next year” History will show it was a bad signing. The Angels have a way of turning successful players into mediocre players. Even Vlad Guerrero Sr. had better numbers as an Expo than he did as an Angel. I’m in no way calling Guerrero mediocre but players stats ALWAYS decline when they switch to an Angels uniform. See Carew, Reggie, Vaughn, Pujols, Hamilton, Rendon

915 OPS and 147 OPS+ last year was scuffling?

Because he’s scuffled for 60 games and has a long history of success.

Brandon is correct. He might come back and play better, but he will get older.
Redsoxx_62
I’m pretty sure Kershaw didn’t hit the injured list on July 17th… because it is July 17th
Zerbs63
lol I noticed that too, I was like that’s not very much time at all.
Roberts said they are going to use this time to keep Kershaw out for a few weeks to allow him to be fresh in September and October.
BlueSkies_LA
Sort of, kind of. Roberts may have called the IL trip a “sabbatical” but in reality Kershaw is unable to pitch because of the elbow soreness. Fortunately nothing structural but enough to keep him out for a month, maybe more. Roberts also had some interesting comments on the other rotation vacancy that gives us some pretty broad hints about how the Dodgers see this situation.

Man Rendon deal went south quickly.

Kershaw is (was) hung with the injury prone, can’t win tag, but nobody whispers same about Trout.
DODGER JR
When. has Trout been injured before this year? Kershaw has tons of talent around him and should win every single year. What talent does Trout have to win? No pitching what so ever and until this year he hasn’t gotten any help from the everyday players. That’s why nobody whispers about Trout.
ben w.
There’s a guy from Japan who takes offense to your pitching comment. But, yeah, other than that, the Angel’s pitching has been garbage with Trout around.
lamars
you mean the guy who finally put it altogether this season? But yeah, that Angel’s pitching has been garbage with Trout around.
BeforeMcCourt
Cmon man, games played since 2017 for trout. 114, 140, 134, 53(missed a week in a 2 month season), 36/90 this year
He hasn’t played a full year since 2016…
Angels & NL West
In fairness, we should let Trout play in some big games before we pin the, “cant win the big one” label on him.
Cosmo2
That label is always false anyway. Baseball is a team sport.

My 1st 3 picks
Trout, rendon, kershaw.
I’m soon to be 6-9

Everybody’s so quick to bash someone all the damn time… How bout instead of trying to pick out every flaw..even tho these guys do make millions… How bout trying to pick the guy up once in a while.. write something encouraging! Make him want to get back out there and tear it up asap instead of thinking his teams fans hate him.. People make mistakes and people get hurt… ya it sucks.. but we’re all human..
