The Tigers have been discussed reliever Michael Fulmer with other teams this afternoon, reports Jon Morosi of MLB.com (Twitter link). Detroit needn’t move Fulmer, who’s controllable through next season via arbitration, unless particulaly impressed by an offer.
Fulmer has tossed 42 innings of 3.86 ERA/3.44 SIERA ball this season, his first as a bullpen option. He’s striking out a career-high 25.6% of batters faced and racking up swinging strikes at a personal-best 13.3% clip, so there should be plenty of demand among contenders. Detroit already made one bullpen move today, sending lefty Daniel Norris to the Brewers.
Meanwhile, Morosi reports that the Tigers are not in active talks regarding second baseman Jonathan Schoop, nor are they likely to trade reliever Jose Cisnero.
Faith in the Padres
We’d come full circle if preller were to acquire him.

It would be funny if the Mets picked him up. I still think they could use another 6-7 type arm even with Diaz, Lugo & May all trending in a better direction.

Wouldn’t be a bad idea at all. Can spot start or keep games within reach… But being controllable they would ask for too much I’m sure. Unless it’s the Yankees in which case theyd pay him to pitch for them and demand no real prospects in return.
Lonniemac
Another case of the Tigers waiting to long to trade a guy. Him and Boyd could have brought back a really good package a couple of years ago.
tigersgm
Yep. Avila is slow on the uptake.
The Saber-toothed Superfife
It’s more than that.
Hard to walk with four balls
No, Boyd and Norris were never bringing back “a really good package” that is nonsense.
You have nothing to support why they would have either.,
The Saber-toothed Superfife
To Tiger fans, weeks seem like years…..
Neither Al Avila nor Mr. Chris Illich seem very aggressive with any of this. Understandable for Mr. Illich after the unfortunate passing of his father, but it has been a number of years now.
Yeah, Al’s got “the eye”…..

look at the monetary numbers. the tigers lost 16 million dollars in 2015 and 2016. they would have lost more money had they not entered the rebuild. with the exception of the first month of this season the tigers have played like a playoff team. they will probably spend some money this off season(attempt to resign schoop and maybe look at a SS to get on the cheap do the the free agent market being flooded with them). then it’s still about bringing up the young guys.

@lonniemac
Fuller looked like the first piece of the rebuild. Why would they trade him then? Yes he got injured, but they weren’t looking to shop him. Now they feel the rebuild is over and he’s a solid part of the staff. As to Schoop not being moved, that’s what I have been saying all along. Detroit is trying to build a winning atmosphere. They weren’t going to trade their best hitter. Yet this site devoted two large articles speculating what team he would end up with, when he was never being shopped. This is a rumor site, yet so many take every rumor as gospel. We will forever here how the Rockies should have moved Story, but if none of the offers were serious, I can understand not moving him. Avila moved JDM for the best offer he could get and has been ridiculed ever since.
Monkey’s Uncle
What’s the point of holding on to Schoop, unless they think he’s going to re-sign this offseason I suppose.
Detroit Devon
I think there’s a shot that they do. Schoop loves it in Detroit, and the fans love him back.
Lonniemac
Smart teams don’t base their decisions on how much fans like a player.
quantomoffandom
But, will Mr. I jr. going to be willing to pony up? I say Nay Nay
OneLoneGone
Even ISchoop departs the Tigers for another team via Free Agent status the organization gets a competitive balance draft pick in return next June. If all they’re gonna get in return for his services is a prospect in return it might not be a terrible idea to just hang on to him the rest of the season.
Eat em Up
Schoop is 100% going to resign in the offseason. He has made himself too valuable to the clubhouse, and the development of the young players. He said he wants to be in Detroit, and we want him here. Team has been playing well enough, with him leading the way. It makes more sense to just extend a guy like that. Give him 2-3 years, puts him as the veteran leader at the beginning of the rebuild. He’s just proven himself too important to the team to trade for the meager prospects an expiring contract would demand.
wileycoyote56
Probably team chemistry, they’re playing good baseball and even though they’re not going to playoffs, building a winning attitude is crucial going forward
bamck
Red Sox will get Fulmer and Boyd
bravesfan
Calling it now, he’s coming to the Braves. Braves have had their eye on him for years. Gut feeling…
mlbnyyfan
Fulmer for Voit. Yankees should of expanded Cubs deal to include Hendricks.
Airo13
I would love that for the tigers
Eat em Up
Voit is the exact kind of guy the tigers don’t want on their team. They value positional versatility above all else right now. Voit would be of no interest to them.
angt222
Wouldn’t mind seeing the Mets acquire him.
sergefunction
Three years too late, Al.
Yep it is
Exactly.
Luke Strong
Good thing they didn’t deal him and get next to nothing for him… I think he’s a viable extension candidate for the Tigers. This man knows how to pitch.
warnbeeb
Luke Voit is a turrible version of a poor man’s, mediocre Adam Dunn. Just a sluggo. He does not help the Detroit Tigers at all.
warnbeeb
Tigers should hold onto Fulmer. He looks like his future is a back of the bullpen guy. A closer. I could see the Tigers sticking with him. Schoop too. And, my gosh, this Eric Haase kid. I do not think he is a flash in the pan.
