The Rockies announced Thursday that they’ve acquired right-hander Ashton Goudeau from the Reds in exchange for cash. Cincinnati had designated Goudeau for assignment earlier in the week.
The 29-year-old Goudeau’s transaction log reads like something from a video game. Originally a Royals draft selection, Goudeau went to the Mariners in exchange for cash in 2018. He elected free agency at season’s end, signed with the Rockies and has since been claimed off waivers an astonishing six times. Goudeau has gone from Colorado, to Pittsburgh, to Baltimore, to San Francisco, to Los Angeles, back to Colorado and then to Cincinnati. He’s now back with the Rockies for a third time in exchange for what figures to be a nominal amount of cash. It’s been a tumultuous couple of years for him, but on the plus side, Goudeau has continued to accumulate MLB service and MLB pay throughout his many stops in DFA limbo.
Despite that staggering amount of waiver activity, Goudeau has only actually pitched for two of those teams in the Majors: the Reds and Rockies. He’s allowed 11 runs in 17 1/3 innings at the MLB level, but teams continue to be intrigued by his raw stuff despite the lack of success either in the Majors or in Triple-A (where he has a 6.59 ERA in 68 1/3 innings).

Reds dfa’ing him before the Givens trade to get extra cash. Brilliant

This is like going back to the store when you missed something on the shopping list.
Joe It All
Do they really want him though? He could have been included in the Mychal Givens deal but wasn’t. Doesn’t seem like Colorado has much hope for the guy considering they give away cash for teams to take their HOF level talent from them.

The dude probably still has a locker at Coors Field.
BlueSkies_LA
Was he ever anywhere long enough to be issued a locker?
This guy has always been bad-o. Why teams keep taking fliers on him is a head-scratcher.

World Series here they come.

You have to like what the Reds are doing. They’re going to the department store to buy a new bullpen and having a yard sale to sell off their spare parts

Hopefully someone bites on Garcia before Bell is tempted to run him back out there.
Joe It All
Garcia was DFA’d about 10 minutes after the 9th inning ended Tuesday night. He didn’t even have time to shower.

Maybe the third time is the charm for this guy with the Rockies. Seriously between reacquiring him and Case Williams, are the Rockies only looking for guys that used to play for them? Maybe that is the reason for not having a front office.

Won’t hurt the Rockies to have a little more depth with Givens gone and Gray likely to go, Not to mention 3 pitchers currently out on the Covid list.
He’s unlikely to be worse than, say, Jesus Tinoco or Yency Almonte. Give him some innings and see if he figures something out.
hiflew
In fairness, Tinoco gave up 3 homers in 1 1/3 innings last night. I want the bar set a little higher than just not being worse than him.

If someone wants to pay me $600K to fly all over the country and play baseball for 6 different organizations, where do I sign up?

Except he hasn’t been paid that much. He has been on the big league roster for just a handful of days in 2021. Since he is pre-arb, the rest of the time, he is on a minor league salary.
TheMichigan
He makes pro-rated money for how long he’s in the DFA window, usually takes 3 days for a claim to be processed, 7 days on the full DFA system. Let’s say he spent the 3 days for a claim to be processed 6 times.
Say he signed a minors deal with the the Rockies that pays league minimum if he makes the majors, and it’s a split contract.
He’s made $55,347.59 in 18 days alone in prorated dfa limbo. That’s more than my mom makes as a teacher in 9 months. And that’s on a very basic side without knowing his contract details and assuming a 575,000$ base salary. He could very well be making more than 3,000ish a day depending on his contract he signed with the Rockies which I believe that is what the base contract is being processed by all the claims.
He’s made a decent amount of money all considered in comparison to us. In regards to the rest of the industry? Yeah, not so much.

Mans still cashing a paycheck that’s all that matters
