The Pirates have signed infielder Dee Strange-Gordon to a minor league contract, ESPN’s Jeff Passan reports (Twitter link). Strange-Gordon will report to Pittsburgh’s Triple-A affiliate.
As Passan notes, Strange-Gordon has made it almost a full circuit around the NL Central within the last five months, after previously being released from minor league deals with the Reds and Brewers, and then he opted out of a minors contract with the Cubs just yesterday. All of this movement hasn’t resulted in any MLB playing time for Strange-Gordon, though a more clear path back to the majors might exist in the Steel City.
The Pirates have seen their infield depth considerably thinned within the last week, with Colin Moran, Erik Gonzalez, and Phillip Evans all placed on the 10-day injured list. Gregory Polanco’s own IL stint (due to a bilateral adductor strain) has further subtracted from the position player mix, and Strange-Gordon did accumulate some outfield experience in his three seasons with the Mariners. While the rebuilding Pirates are more prone to take a look at younger players than a veteran like Strange-Gordon, he can at least provide some depth in the event of any more injuries, or perhaps if any Pittsburgh players are moved prior to the July 30 trade deadline.
While it has been some time since Strange-Gordon was even a league-average hitter, he does offer some multi-positional versatility as a shortstop, second baseman, and outfielder. Even as his batting declined over three seasons with Seattle, Strange-Gordon was still a threat on the basepaths, going 22-for-27 in stolen base attempts as recently as 2019.

I wonder how good the offers have been for Frazier
KermitJagger
I’m sure they are going to be pretty good.
alwaysgo4two
Uh oh….Kai Tom’s days could be numbered. He’d better pick things up.
Monkey’s Uncle
Tom is injured at the moment anyways, he’s on IL, so are Moran and Gonzalez, plus they just put Polanco and Evans there too. It’s not out of the question that Dee could earn a call up.
jimmyz
Pirates called up Cole Tucker and Rodolfo Castro yesterday to cover for the MLB infielders on the IL. At the moment there is no shortstop on the AAA roster with Tucker in Pgh so I’m guessing Dee is slotting in there. When people get healthy my hope is that with Frazier a virtual lock to be traded they keep Tucker in MLB to have him and Newman as the double play combo and have Castro and Gordon in AAA as depth.
bucsfan0004
After watching Castro swing the bat, swap him and Tucker in your comment
Stormintazz
Has Dee Gordon qualified to be called “suitcase” yet? 4 teams in 4 months?
Robertowannabe
Give it a few weeks and make it 5!
Ully
This is his 4th NL central team this year?
Monkey’s Uncle
Yep. He’s hopping around looking for the best chance to make it back to the bigs, not that I blame him.
Gwynning's Anal Lover
What’s the record for most teams?
Monkey’s Uncle
Oliver Drake, 5 teams in majors, 2018. I’m not certain but I think he’s the only one to do that in the bigs. I wouldn’t be shocked if it’s been done in the minors before.
Robertowannabe
4th NL Central team to be exact!
JimmyTheC
That didn’t take long.
DarkSide830
over/under 4 weeks until he’s in Memphis?
CuddyFox
I will say under. The Cardinals already have underperforming players and do not need another one.
Deadguy
Cardinals dont need infield depth, need pitching depth.
Monkey’s Uncle
Oh wow, really? You trade away Kevin Kramer just so you can replace him at AAA with Dee? Not that Kramer has much of a future, he doesn’t… but does Dee?
Morningview21
They got prospects for Kramer
Monkey’s Uncle
Prospect, singular, but you’re correct, and I didn’t realize that until after I posted… I was thinking it was just a cash deal.
mindseye15
If the Pirates release him, the Cardinals need to sign him to a minors deal and he will have completed the division.
SpendNuttinWinNuttin
5 years too late but hey something to hopefully watch when I go to the park in a few weeks. Probably Frazier’s LH replacement after the ASG
jimmyz
Ke’Bryan and Reynolds are worth the price of a ticket. That said I’ve only gone to a couple games this year mostly to see opposing teams and players including last night against the Braves to see Acuna.
YourDreamGM
I am enjoying Gamel and Nogowski
Monkey’s Uncle
Can’t get off to much of a better start with a new team than Nogowski is doing, that’s for sure.
ASapsFables
Dee Strange-Gordon provides a depth piece at 2B for a likely trade involving Adam Frazier ahead of the July 30th deadline, hopefully one that has the latter heading to the White Sox.
MilwaukeeStrong
every team in MLB needs Frazier. Kid can hit. Young kids should be mirroring his approach at the plate
OnixConcepcionBats1000
Respectfully sir. How much “depth” does a team 20 games out…truly need?
He is there for a month. Maybe he can steal 8 bases and bat .240 and be trade bait or waiver wire fodder in August.
But he is a has-been. Bucs only got him because Frazier is on the BucExodus WagonTrain.
Cosmo2
I don’t think they signed a player no one else wanted in order to replace an all star. He’s minor league filler and injury insurance, even for the Pirates. And no, he’s never gonna be “trade bait”. No one wants him now for free who will give up stuff for him? Doesn’t make sense.
OnixConcepcionBats1000
As for the “who’d want him? Right at this moment?” (Aside from Pitsburgh? No one. On THAT point we agree.)
But he will most-certainly be waiver wire fodder, that is unless The Pirates rush him into action and he shows he can still run.
Gordon is still fast. Plays decent 2B and has hit over his career.
For a fringe team like Seattle or even a cheap pickup (The A’s) who will likely be looking at Anderson or Kuhl, etc in the rotation…ya toss in Strange here and maybe the Buce get an extra prospect.
Frazier is on the way out. Dee will be a filler. Played only to show that he (maybe) still can. Then? He gone.
Bucs don’t need 33 year old 2Bs.
For a team that may win 65 games..total? And is about to rip it down to the rafters, with the only “recognizable” name being Reynolds…left on it? Yep. Gordon may get a decent 30ABs, steal a couple bases…and then be on his way to a team hoping to get one of the “everyone gets a trophy Wild Card Play In Game” spots.
My instinct tells me he would be more of a “waiver wire” pickup, as it is doubtful that Pgh will unload Frazier before the AS game, and Gordon will be in AAA for a couple weeks in July here.
Thusly…he won’t have much time here (if he gets it at all) to show what he has left.
But he most certainly IS trade bait (or rather “trade enhancer”). If he is a toss in for a trade.
But waiver wire? Definitely. Plus this 26 man nonsense makes him a good fit for a team still in it…in August.
Teams continually pick up Billy Hamilton types. They can catch and run. A depth piece on a good team.
Stockpiled name on a bad one (like Pittsburgh) who will scrap all of it…very soon and begin again.
And heck. Even if he only hits .230? Someone will want him.
I am frankly surprised the Pirates haven’t picked up Bartolo Colon too.
Pirates will make a trade of some sort with the Muts. And Bartolo as a toss in to them? Would be cool AND he is 1) better than anything the Pirates have on staff (even at his age. What is he now? 72?) And he can give innings, is a draw. And maybe he wins 5 more? Then finally hangs em up.
Pirates should load up on every old timer like that, that they can. Right now. Bucs roster would look like 1985s. But…there will be teams that “need a last hurrah type” to get em thru one last month. And the Bucs (their farm system ain’t that great…as others have been saying. It isn’t. Otherwise…they would be UP HERE…playing better than the garbage currently on the ML roster.
So they need a mile more arms and a ton more bats. Especially young catchers.
To get that and those…they need to have “something more than Frazier” to trade with. He will bring a nice return. But 1 pitcher and maybe 1 catcher ain’t nothing but a drop in a bucket.
Pirates are 7 players short of a lineup.
3 may be coming that can be “adequate” from their (overrated) “farm system”.
Which it is.
Therefore…sign ALL these types and throw as much crap at a wall…and see what sticks. Then trade every single one of them PLUS the retread pickups PLUS the hasbeen/holdover “never will bes” and get a pile of fresh names and faces everywhere.
They can’t do any worse than they are doing.
Rebuilds..to work…need to occur while players are of the same or similar “attained age”.
Been saying this for years. The Pirates would be better off with All 20 Year Olds on the roster. Bring em up. Let em play. Let em fight it out to see WHO BELONGS. WHO DON’T.
Then…the ones that CAN…are all 21 (or around that) next year. 22 the next and so on.
So a 20 year old arm goes 3-15 with a 5.00 ERA. On a dead last team? Who cares? He throws 150 to 200 innings however…and most certainly he will improve.
Problem with the Pirates 30 other “Rebuilds” over the past 40 years, and why they don’t ever come close to working..is this.
They “begin a Rebuild around a rookie Barry Bonds”. Then they pickup a very young Bonilla and a Drabek. Looks good to that point.
Then…they STUPIDLY go out and sign a Kirk Gibson or Ted Power or Lance Parrish or Alex Cole type. (Players either 8 years past a prime…or who never had one. To be playing…alongside top flight players.)
They get “2 or 3…maybe 4 pieces to work, and rather than get MORE YOUNG IN…they bust up their own Rebuilds by signing garbage pail kid “filler”.
And they have been doing this since Clemente’s plane went down.
I have called it “The Curse of Clemente” for years.
Rather than keep (and please do look them up) some of the amazing names they had as rookies (shortly after Clemente died)…they get rid of Willie Randolph, Tony Armas, types as rookies and get ZERO back.
OR…they ridiculously trade away a Zisk or Oliver or Gossage etc…in their PRIME.
This cycle of “hole plugging” crippled them…decades ago.
This is why they failed then. Failed in the 80s. The 90s. The 00s. The 10s and will fail in the 20s.
“If you are gonna suck? Then you suck with ALL ROOKIES”
At the very least…rookies will try.

Book 1: Chapter 1 “In the Beginning…there were the Pirates. And God said. “let them be bad. And they were”
Cosmo2
I’ll just address my original point: if no one wants him now, they’ll not give up assets for him later. He’s fast now. No one wants him for free. He hits .230 now? No one wants him for free. He’s not going to magically change into a different player. If they don’t want him now for free (taking into account his speed and other attributes already, no one is going to “discover” that later) they’re not suddenly gonna want to pay for him later. Seriously, when has that ever happened?
OnixConcepcionBats1000
When has a baseball team ever had a 42 year WS drought?
Lots of whens/what ifs when it comes to this team.
He is toss in trade fodder or waiver wire fodder.
If he gets tossed in with a Tyler Anderson and the Bucs get an extra arm in the deal? Then there may be a first time for everything. Including this.
Not saying he will bring back anything. But the Bucs don’t have anything as it stands. Any gain is an improvement.
He is a role filling has-been. Agreed.
But someone will want him.
MilwaukeeStrong
They basically told Dee that you are getting a lot of at bats when Reynolds/Frazier are traded by the deadline.
If you cant make the roster on the pirates ya might wanna think about hanging it up Dee. But first has to sign with the Cards. Needs to complete the central bus tour
Monkey’s Uncle
It would make zero sense for the Pirates to trade Reynolds unless they are absolutely blown away with an offer. He’s affordable, he’s got many years of control still, and he’s just about the only outfielder they have worth a darn.
Morningview21
Agreed. Reynolds is going nowhere.
Gwynning's Anal Lover
Why wouldn’t you trade Reynolds? You have an All-Star that is going to give you good return, which you can then trade for more good return. The Pirates aren’t going to contend for 20-25 years so let him be with a team that will.
bobtillman
C’mon, be nice….15-20 years at most…..
Ghost of past pirates
What kind of draft pick were you? Former last round in the 1992 troll draft
Gwynning's Anal Lover
@bobtillman I estimate between 20-25 specifically because the average life expectancy of a man is 79 years old. Bob Nutting is 59 years old and since he’s not selling the team, it will take roughly 3-4 years to do damage control after he dies. So get ready to enjoy your 2044 World Series Champions, the Pittsburgh Pirates!
ClevelandSpidersFromMars
That’s life expectancy at birth. By the time a man gets to 59 his expectancy has improved by a couple years, I think. So you got to factor that in.
Gwynning's Anal Lover
@ClevelandSpidersFromMars You are right. So eyeballing it, you think maybe 2051?
OnixConcepcionBats1000
More like 3051.
The Pittsburgh Pirates will NEVER win a World Series…again. ever.
Not in Pittsburgh.
Nope. No way.
They are a dead stick.
Gotta rip it apart, move it and sell it to an OWNER (a real owner) who doesn’t entice the fan base w 1 dollar hot dogs, continually-selling the “pretty park” and who gives GMs about 14 dollars in weekly allowance to spend.
Unless those 3 things occur? Then “remember 1979. Always, Pirate Fans”.
Cause that is the LAST great memory you will ever have emitted from this colossally-misrun thing they pass off as a “baseball team”.
Even BAD teams (see Cubs, Mets, Padres, Rangers) can LUCK INTO a “halfway decent season or two…every decade or so.
But the Succos? Nope. Not them. They make you endure TWENTY YEARS of excuses and garbage with a “promise” that produces more prevarications and blather than all politicians put together.
Dog doo attracts more “crowds” than PNC.
And frankly? The Pirates could play in FRICK PARK…and if they simply were any good? They will draw.
But to lie…to a fan base that has supported this team since Clemente’s plane went down…and so many more even before that? Over and over and over again? (But yeah…”they got a pretty park and an announcers who thinks Every Home run hit needs to be yelled about, as if the 1960 World Series was being replayed.)? Well…Pittsburgh. For over 4 decades now…ya bought a bill of goods. No more. No less.
They are garbage.
Wanna force a cheap rich owners hand? Stop funding his lies.
Produce. Improve. Or sell and move.
It is that simple.
Because they are done.
(And they have been done…since 1994)
PiratesFan1981
You have some anger issues. I hate to see how you feel about White Sox, Tigers, or even Angels. White Sox have been rebuilding for as long as PNC Park has opened. Tigers can’t figure it out 15 years later. Angels can’t win even with one of the richest owners in the game and the best player in the game. Sure Pirates have had decades of poor baseball and it appears the cycle continues. It’s tough being a Pirates fan these days. I just think you went on a rant that has no meaning. If KC Royals can win a World Series, so can any other small market club like the Pirates or even Marlins.
OnixConcepcionBats1000
No. You have vision issues and memory loss issues.
The time to have “been angry at the Pirates”? Was 1986.
Now? They are comic relief. But about as funny as Ish Kabbible was, or a Migraine is.
What do I think about the Angels? Lol. I don’t. They too…are garbage.
Tigers? Well…they are the American League Pirates.
White Sox? I don’t mind them at all. They kept LaRussa around (uggh)…but for a lot of years ALSO had the most awesome announcer too. The Hawk. One of my favorites.
White Sox are cool in my book.
Cosmo2
The Pirates really are the most bleak franchise. If there is one owner that should be forced to sell…
Captain Jack
If only every Pirate fan got it like you. Yet, they can’t wait to gulp down those dollar dogs till they run out of buns. Great posts!!!
OnixConcepcionBats1000
Thank you Captain Jack.
Appreciate the kind words.
Being a Bucs Fan is kind of like having hypodermic needles shoved in one’s eyeballs every March thru September.
They have been badly owned and badly run since the 1970s. When they HAVE “won”…it was in spite of, not because of…anything their amateurish “Owners” ever did.
They perpetually slap the city in the face. The same city that since the 1880s…has been supporting them, thru 90 percent “lousy times”…10 percent good times.
The Pirates don’t just “go thru a bad run here or there”. No sir. They go thru extended droughts that would make even Gunga Din begin to think “sand look yummy. Maybe I drink”.
1960 was the greatest year of them all for Bucco Fans. And even THEN…they got lucky that Stengel was becoming a buffoon, and HANDED them Gave 7…which the Pirates (even then) nearly blew.
1971? Best team they ever had. Struggled to get past the Orioles though. But did. (Murtaugh outclassed Weaver and Clemente led them).
1979? Was a fluke. A fun fluke yes. But the team was better in 1976, 77, 78.
Thank God Stargell had 1 last hurrah left. Cause they shouldn’t have even made the playoffs that year. (Tanner was no Murtaugh and by 1979…the Pirates had already mortgaged the next decade to “win it…1 last time”.
They did. But between 1973 and 1979…so many great players that they could have/should have kept? (Post-Clemente)…crippled the team for the next 3 decades. I mean honestly…Al Oliver, Goose Gossage, Willie Randolph, Richie Zisk, and on and on. The replacements…young replacements were there. And alongside Parker? The 1980s would never have been as bad as they were…had the Galbreaths and Petersen (that is where the true futility began) had simply “traded Stargell to the Mets in 1976 and 1977..
When it was proposed twice…for Jerry Koosman and Mickey Lolich). Sure. Lolich was just about done. But so was Stargell. KOOSMAN however…was an ace Lefty. Stuck on a terrible Mets team.
Stick him on the Bucs between 1976 and 1981? Alongside Rhoden and Kison and Candelaria? And you got PITCHING galore…along with all the existing bats ever needed.
They didn’t.
And to this day…they have been digging out of a grave that they are stuck in.
Bad management for a long long time.
Slap in the face to those of us whom have supported it since 1970. Or before that…as Dad has since 1950 (when they were even worse).
Very sad.
Should have let em move to Denver or New Orleans in 1985. Yes. It would be sad to not have a team in Pittsburgh. But would still root for em anyway. And at least they would have an owner that understood basic management.
Not one owner of the Pirates…since before the Galbreaths…ever has.
OnixConcepcionBats1000

OnixConcepcionBats1000
Only way you trade Reynolds? If if some sucker gives you 3 pitchers AND takes Plunko off your hands.
Otherwise. Keep him
Ghost of past pirates
Well baldy. Im guessing that you are in your late 60s early 70s?? Im 65. Been a pirate fan since 1965. The pirates were a class organization when the galbreaths owned them. Joe brown as gm and danny murtaugh as manager. Clemente stargell and maz. Times change. Small market teams get burned. Spending foolishly doesnt win pennants. They are rebuilding.
Now my advice to you is to take some geritol and some exlax. Stay out of the Arizona sun. AND DO ALL OF PITTSBURGH A FAVOR. DONT EVER COME BACK.
OnixConcepcionBats1000
Well ghosty.
Spoken like a true lemming.
(By the way. I regularly come back.
But since you are 65, I would expect you to know better by now.
Sadly…you don’t.
They have been “rebuilding” since you were in High School.
Friggin PYRAMIDS didn’t take this long to build.
But you have it your way. Spend your money and buy the “small market excuse” that they sell ya every year.
Nutting makes MASSIVE profits. Year after year after year. This is common knowledge.
With that said…I too, want owners to make a profit. They should. Got no problem with that.
What I have a problem with…is that after all this time of raking in huge profits…one would think that they would maybe like ummm…get BUILT?
Ya don’t gotta carry a 200 million dollar payroll. No one is asking that.
But the Pirates seem to spend their “small market funds” (Lol) on utter garbage.
Ain’t how much you spend. It is what you spend what you have…on.
And the Pirates? waste their profits, misappropriated their “cap money” and they never get any better.
Ticket prices ever go down there yet? No.
Last time I checked…no world series appearances since 1979.
Are you telling me…that in 42 YEARS…the Pirates cannot “rebuild the team?”
If you truly buy that like of BS? Then it is no wonder WHY NutterButter makes a profit. Off of low expectations from fans. Like you.
I repeat again…you want to see a bad owner change his tune…real fast?
Hit em right in the wallet.
OnixConcepcionBats1000
Oh…and while we are on the subject? The Galbreaths were lousy too.
They cried “poor” at every turn too. Griped incessantly about 3 Rivers and blah blah blah.
They hired GMs who were far from shrewd. Brown? Nice guy. But not exactly a wonder wizard of general management.
And then…Petersen? Sure…he wheeled and dealed. Like Taz he did.
And MOST of his trades? Crippled the team for a decade after he got the axe.
Murtaugh…I will grant that. The man did more with less than most managers ever could. Aside from 1971, he wasn’t ever exactly “blessed with a full deck most seasons…yet he found a way to win. Pirates pitching between 1955 and 1975 was lousy. Yep. They had bats. But Murtaugh was crafty. Found ways to get the most out of an often clinking clinking collection of calliginous junk. (Clemente, Stargell, Maz. And the 1971 team was about all he had all those years) rest? Were fair players at times. Lousy at other times.
Yet Danny Murtaugh found ways to win.
On Murtaugh…we can agree.
As for GMs and “Owners” of the Pirates? They have stunk royally for an ultra long time. Branch Rickey, Sydney Thrify were the two most decisive GMs they ever had.
And to “rebuild this rebuild of the prior 17 rebuilds that never got rebuilt, but they are rebuilding toward that again?” They better hope Cherington is akin to Branch Rickey OR Thrift.
Or neither you, nor I will ever see em win anything…again. nor our kids or grandkids.
They are as p1$$poorly run as ANY entity ever.
PiratesFan1981
Baldy just stop. Pirates are a small market team and have it tough. If the foundation is weak, things get ugly. MLB is unstable compared to “common” ground with salary cap leagues like NFL, NHL, and NBA. I think NFL and NHL has their stuff right, while NBA and MLB are struggling to keep it competitive from top to bottom.
Captain Jack
Shut up clown. Ghost is another lemming
OnixConcepcionBats1000
No. They don’t have it that “tough”.
That is simply their crutch to hide behind their incompetence.
Expect more. Demand more. From the product you pay for.
And it changes.
BTW…Nutting makes exorbitant profits year after year after year. (All easily found facts).
The owner is a sham. And he always will be.
Hopefully Cherington had it written into his GM Contract…”If owner remains a buffoon, I still get paid long after aforementioned buffoon has President In Name Only of Team fire me”
Problem with the Pirates has always been 3 fold. Their scouts suck. Their GMs suck. And they all do…because their ownership sucks.
Crap…rolls down hill. If it ain’t working with the moron at the top of the heap? Find a new moron.
Cause Nutting is as bad an owner as there is or ever was.
At LEAST Bill Veeck made it FUN to go and see bad teams. He would even give ya a midget to go see. Or something
like Disco Demolotion Night. (That stuff…IS FUN).
What do the Pirates give you?
A pretty park, 1 dollar hot dogs every now and then…Zambelli Fireworks and Chris Archer or Francisco Cervelli or Plunko or 2 times around the block with Saint Sean De Rodrigue’.
They were better off when Caliguiri (a mayor) owned them.
Nutting uses this dumpster fire he calls a “team” as a tax writeoff.
And he always will.
To fix a rotten or dying tree, you gotta hit the root. The root is Bob Nutting. And this little “snipping of leaves on the tippy top branch they do? Won’t work. Never has. Until they HIT THE ROOT? The tree remains a dead stick.
Ghost of past pirates

Gwynning's Anal Lover
Why?
FullMontilla
$600k/year plus 4 years of arbitration for a budding all-star CF is why – the GM would lose his job and the team would lose their fanbase if they trade Reynolds at this point.
kingbum
Think about the ransom the Pirates can ask for because of that contract. You can get 2 mlb ready players and a couple prospects and that should be Pittsburg’s goal right now.
FullMontilla
#kingburn – that would seem insane to me. Reynolds is the kind of player you build with. Pirates fell ass-backwards into a future all-star, steeling him (and Kyle Creek) from a desperate Giant’s team that was looking for a major league player in McCutcheon Cutch played a mediocre year with the Giants and then moved on. A bird in the hand…
OnixConcepcionBats1000
Yeah. Maybe RJ Reynolds.
Cause in 2 years? This “Reynolds” is GONE on the first train to New York.
Bryan Reynolds is too good for a team like this.
He is a humble man. A gentleman. Who plays hard and keeps his nose to the grindstone.
Letting him rot on a team that won’t sniff “next to last” (let alone “compete”) until he is 34 years old? Would be a damn shame to him.
Doubtful his agent is that stupid to leave him on a moribund Pirate team.
He will be in New York before 2024.
3Rivers
You’re wrong #FullMountilly
Gm would not lose his job and the team would DEFINITELY NOT lose their fans lol
This is the Pittsburgh Pirates, are you new?Worse things have happened and they didnt lose the fan base. Has anyone ever seen a fan base completely give up on a team in a city? Think about what youre saying.
The team 1000% won’t compete next year or the year after, so maybe 24′ maybe. More likely 25′ That would leave what, one to two years of control for Reynolds? You think theyre going to give the guy a contract? Plus he’d have to actually accept. Id bet against it.
So he is absolutely on the table and it would be perfectly acceptable, as long as they get a + return, which id bet BC will get.
Gwynning's Anal Lover
@FullMontilla The potential, budding all-star CF, and years of control would get you a huge haul right now. The team lost its fanbase except for the people commenting on this post. Looking at the stands, it looks like they are still practicing 2020 Covid protocol.
Cosmo2
As a Met fan I’d love Reynolds on my team but if I were the Pirates I wouldn’t trade him for anything less than an absolute haul which is unlikely. On second thought, for the sake of MLB, I hope he stays in Pittsburgh.
Cosmo2
Kingbum: 2 major league ready players plus prospects? You’re dreaming. Reynolds is worth it but what winning team has that to give without defeating the purpose of the trade. The Mets, for example, would be out of the running (unless maybe Smith plus? But I doubt it, that’s robbing Peter to pay Paul.)
OnixConcepcionBats1000
They ought to let the Pirette Ballgirls hit.
They can’t do any worse.

Strange days, indeed! I really hope he shows in Pittsburgh that he can still play – would be a good story
YourDreamGM
AAA infielder traded, this is the replacement. Frazier Moran could be traded, couple injuries happen and Gordon is back in the show. Always good to have veterans around. If a young player learns just one helpful thing from them ot could make a difference.
OnixConcepcionBats1000
Veterans. Lol.
They are a waste of time, money and roster space.
One thing…if you sign Rickey Henderson or Ichiro and say “hey kid….LISTEN TO THIS VETERAN”. Altogether another when you sign garbage like Todd Frazier, Dee Strange Gordon, Doug Strange, Todd Van Poppel and Jerry Goff.
What (exactly) can a rookie learn from crapola…like that?
Zip zero. Nada.
Today’s youth doesn’t learn…anyway.
That is why they become “veterans on the Pirates at age 28”.
Time to learn is when you are 20.
By the time the Bucs get em? They are like 3 day old pizza. Left out in the box.
Stale, inspid, dry. Dead.
You go to the Pirates (if you are a player like Dee Gordon or Todd Frazier…only when ya got no where else to go).
They stunk in their prime (if they ever had one). And they shall stink even worse with Pittsburgh.
The All Time WORST player Hall of Fame roster can be created…simply by looking up “veterans who also played for Pittsburgh” in history.
It is their modus operandi.
If you had back every dollar wasted since 1965 on every garbage has-been from Sam McDowell to Willie Montanez…Steve Kemp to Joggin George…Benito Santiago to Matt Morris and on and on and on…then you could likely BUY Belize.
Ain’t no tellin what the ridiculous Pirates will waste their money on.
They have been going about this for like…ever.

Sorry bald but you gotta go on the mute until they get you back to the institution.

Strange, I wanted the Pirates to get Dee Gordon for years.
Back when he was good.
And back when they weren’t totally terrible.
Now…what’s the point of either, really?
Gwynning's Anal Lover
Honestly, I think he’ll do okay with the Pirates. It’s definitely low risk at this point. I think he will be a role model to the younger players while serving the team in the field. He isn’t what he was a few years back, but he’ll do the job. I’m excited to see what Shelton does with this team after the sell-off happens.
OnixConcepcionBats1000
I’m excited to see Shelton get fired too.
He stinks on ice.
Hurdleball was garbage enough.
Sheltonball? Is even worse.
He can’t even get fundamentals down pat…from rookies/hasbeens and holdovers whom are littering up this roster.
He has NO chance of doing so with bona-fide players. Ever. He is a “space filler”. Just like Strange here is.
Cosmo2
For goodness sake he’s an aging player who no other team wanted on a minor league deal. Stop penciling him in as a significant piece! Just because you’ve heard of his name doesn’t mean he’s worth anything. We go through this nonsense every time some has-been is picked up on waivers. He’s filler, nothing more.
OnixConcepcionBats1000

OnixConcepcionBats1000
They have been “pretty terrible” since 1980.
I am not sure Dr. Strange Gordon here was even born the last time the Pirates were truly anything close to “resembling good”.
(And no. They weren’t any good in 1989-1992 either. Simply better than the garbage in their own division)
Problem with The Pirettes? Is they can’t develop talent. At all. They evolve slower than a Milennial in a 1985 History Class (back when school was actually “real school”) and they make monumentally stupid trades (Chris Archer? Rod Barajas? Lonnie Chisenhall?) and free agent “signings” as if to say “see! see!! We are a baseball team too and can sign a player too!”
They are dumb.
And until the day comes where they aren’t dumb anymore? They will perpetually be…DEAD LAST
OnixConcepcionBats1000
Farewell and adieu to you fair Adam Frazier.
10 days. He gone.
Let the clearance sale at Monroeville Zayre’s (or is it Hills?) Begin.
Cherington is just warming up now. Dee Strange Gordon? Lol. Who next? Saint Sean de Rodrigue’ part 3?
You all think the Pirates stink now? Wait a month. They are house cleaning. And about damn time too.
Clearance Sale. First Floor. All Black N Gold Garbage…MUST GO.
And sign 50 pitchers.
You ever gonna attempt to “rebuild Pittsburgh?” LOL. You better do it around PITCHING. And just pitching.
Anything else? Will equate to DEAD…LAST.
Seen it for 40 years
OnixConcepcionBats1000
Would be awesome…in a month…if he is traded to the Cardinals.
Would be some sort of record wouldn’t it?
“Can’t survive in the NL Comedy Central? Then retire”.
Guy is a roster filler. No more. No less.
Probably cost Nutter Butter about 32K and a bag of shag balls and a pass to Seven Springs for Arbor Day 2022.
He will be gone by August.
Don’t need scrap like that on a rebuild. He is simply a precursor to Frazier being traded. 10 days max and DOWN GOES FRAZIUHHH. Likely to the Chisox or the Muts.
OnixConcepcionBats1000
Pirates seem to sign more Kellers, Fraziers, Stranges and Bells…than any team I can think of.
Must save NutterButter 50 bucks a jersey by recycling the names.
Maybe they can pickup Matt Kemp too? (I think Steve Kemp’s jersey been laying around the clubhouse for a couple decades now.) Maybe Jeff Parett too? Change a couple letters and take the jersey off the Pirate Parrot and ya got a uni.
Garbage franchise.
Move it New Orleans

The countdown to Polanco’s buyout is at 88 days. For Pirate fans there is at least light at the end of that dark tunnel.
OnixConcepcionBats1000
Lol. Plunko.
Talk about time, money, at bats, chances, uniforms and AIR wasted?
Plunko is the epitome of it.
(Great knowing the Pirates have Ben Gamel there to take his place at the Mendoza Line).
Any other team? (Plunko would have been released 3 years ago).
Jagoff can’t even play right field. In PNC? Isn’t like he is playing RF in a cavern. “Play deep. Come in on ball. Squeeze ball. Catch ball”.
Scrub can’t even do that.
Pirates could have (and should have) signed Melky Cabrera. At the very least…he hits .280 and isn’t a joke in RF.
Nope. They would rather keep Plunko.
Who barely hits 180

It’s Strange how Dee Strange-Gordon started sucking right about the exact same time Dee Strange-Gordon changed his name from Dee Gordon to Dee Strange-Gordon.
OnixConcepcionBats1000
In a nutshell? This stockpiling of players considered “depth”? On the Pirates? Is like saying “The Titanic needs more water”.
But Cherington knows what he was handed.
Nothing. Therefore…he has nothing to lose.
The Pirates need PITCHING. Miles and miles of pitching. So this “sign every retread hasbeen that is going on”? Is correct. Sign em all.
Cause ya got nothing there (except Reynolds).
But with enough bodies…Cherington can make 5 for 1 trades. For YOUNG PITCHERS. a ton of them. Like an endless conga line. Frazier alone will be “First Lego” to the foundation when he is traded.
But the Pirates..as an organization that is dead in the water? Needs 20 more Pitchers and 4 more catchers.
Bats? They can be bought. Later. Much later. But get the pitchers…pitching first.
Sign as many as you can. Young and let em eat innings. So they learn.
Ditch the pitch count crap. If a professional pitcher cannot go “6 innings”? Then get rid of him too.
The Pirates have a golden oppo…right now to retrain baseball by returning the game back to what QUALITY PITCHED OUTING means. If they have enough.
Because once you got enough PITCHERS? And the other cylinders are clicking? You can then go and trade 2 solid arms for 2 bats. When the pitching is proven.
But ya can’t do it with retread lamearms.
Ya can’t. Never gonna happen. Not in Pittsburgh. Never ever. Never.
They have tried that countless times before. And failed.
You do it by way of how the Braves did it…way back when. Loaded up on young arms. Bring in more and more and more.
And then…the bats will come.
They always do.
Outfielders come a dime a dozen.
It is a load of pitchers and several catchers…that they need.
And every retread hasbeen like Strange here, can be tossed in with another to be traded…and ya get? Another piece.
Captain Jack
SPOT ON
OnixConcepcionBats1000
Why thank you Captain Jack.
(But shhhh. Don’t tell Casper the Unfriendly Ghost Boy, up there).
He has too much of an affinity to the word “crack”.
Not sure if it is the type he snorts up his nose or sniffs with his nose. But he sure does like the word “Crack” don’t he?
Hey…it is 2021 though. So to each his own. So long as he keeps his nose or whatever else out of my Crack? He can do whatever he wants.
But let’s let him evolve to figure out how the Pirates have come to smell…like Crack. For decades. His way.
Even apes can evolve. Takes several thousand years. But he too may get there around the time when the “Cancun Pirates” (or wherever they are in 3021) and he can then say…”he was right”.
(Til then? He ain’t. We are. Because we know)
Keep it rockin brother.
