The Phillies have reinstated starting pitcher Aaron Nola from the injured list to start this evening’s game against the Yankees. Rotation mate Zach Eflin landed on the 10-day IL with patellar tendinitis in his right knee in a corresponding move.
Nola landed on the COVID-19 IL on July 11 as a close contact of third baseman Alec Bohm, who had tested positive for the virus. (Bohm has also been cleared to rejoin the team, manager Joe Girardi told reporters — including Matt Breen of the Philadelphia Inquirer — but won’t be activated until he works himself back into game shape). That cost Nola his July 11 start, but he winds up only missing a single turn in the rotation thanks to the intervening All-Star Break.
It’s not clear precisely how long Eflin will be out, but the Phillies don’t believe his injury to be a long-term concern (according to Breen). That’s welcome news considering Eflin’s history of knee issues, which includes a season-ending 2016 surgery to repair the same patellar tendon.
The Phils can ill afford a long absence from Eflin, who’s been one of their more productive starters over the past couple seasons. The 27-year-old has a typically solid 4.17 ERA/3.79 SIERA across 105 2/3 frames this year. At 47-45, Philadelphia trails the Mets by just 2.5 games in the NL East, so a prompt return from Eflin is of critical importance.

I remember someon told me Eflin was better than Walker and the Phillies had a better rotation this year.

I remember when the Mets had Wheeler and then let him walk because they were too cheap.

Yes thank god we have Cohen now

No one said that. I literally said “I like Eflin better than Walker, but we’ll see.” Well we saw…Eflin has been bad. So I was clearly wrong and said so already. Also, Walker hasn’t looked good his last few starts. We’re only at the halfway point. I’d wait and see on Walker, but man…one of the best signings for value so far. He’s been great.

I wouldn’t say Eflin’s been bad, he’s been decent. Can’t really expect anything else from a guy like him.

i dunno. given what we’ve seen, id call it regression.

It don’t matter who is better at the very least the Phils need to get Kimbrel if they think they can win the division.I think they also need another bullpen piece and a starter. If they don’t plan on doing that then blow it SELL DUMBO

Another year of mediocrity. Please, please sell McCutchen, Segura, Bradley, Neris, and Miller for a few top 20 prospects, some lower level, and maybe a lotto ticket here and there. Offer out Hoskins to see if any desperate teams make an offer too good to refuse.
Bob333
I agree with TDM Sell I add Nola in that group and worry in the off season how to replace him it should not be that hard to replace a average pitcher.Just like Hoskins we have seen Nola’s act far too long.

Given how prospects tend to work out for the Phillies, I’d rather them go all in. With some pitching help this team is good enough to lose to the Dodgers in the playoffs, and that’s all I can ask for at this point. Haha. Seriously, I have 0 faith in the Phillies ability to rebuild. We’ve seen it fail over and over. Plenty of talent on this roster, just add more.
Phillls
Trade Realmuto. Overrated and overpaid. Bad contract. Some team might actually be dumb enough to give up a top prospect for him.
