The Mets announced they’ve claimed right-hander Roel Ramírez off waivers from the Cardinals. New York had a vacancy on the 40-man roster after designating Jerad Eickhoff for assignment last night.
St. Louis selected Ramírez to the big league roster last month. He made one appearance before being optioned out, giving him two combined big league outings in as many seasons. Ramírez has otherwise the spent the year with Triple-A Memphis, where he’s tossed 29 relief innings across 20 games. Ramírez compiled a 4.34 ERA with strong strikeout and walk rates (27.8% and 7.0%, respectively) for the Redbirds.
New York’s relief corps has had to shoulder a lot of work over the past few days, particularly after last night’s starter Robert Stock was forced to depart in the second inning due to a right hamstring strain. Ramírez’s ability to work multiple innings out of the bullpen could help the Mets’ beleaguered back-end weather the next few days.
Thank goodness
Let’s waive all of the Cardinal relievers except Hicks and Gallegos. Make Reyes a starter. Last nights blowing a 5 run lead in the ninth was pathetic. Walks, walks, and more walks.
Maddux needs to go. This continued wildness is unacceptable.
A pitching coach can control wildness? Is that some kind of a video gamer mentality?
Maddux is not the issue. We’ve been in the top 12 best pitching staffs every year since he took over. This year has been a outlier and is on the players, injuries and front office for their handing of the team(trades, not signing quality pitchers, etc).
Wouldn’t you think of an athlete makes it to the majors—— one of the top criteria would have to be control of the strike zone. That’s where Maddox has screwed up this season!!!
When a team leads the whole major leagues in walks and hit batsmen—— that falls on the pitching coach.
Ramirez will be gone sooner than Eickhoff was let go.. Told all the Mutt fans last week Eickhoff sucked and now im telling you Ramirez may be worse.sign Hamels he is cooked too.
Congratulations. You didn’t have to tell us Eickhoff sucked. We’re well aware. Any other brilliant observations?
Thanks Bub.
Really? The guy released by someone else then picked by the Mets to fill in for their 6th starter isn’t very good? Thanks for letting us know. What ever would we do without you? (I’d prepare yourself for a barrage of sarcasm here, cuz that’s what your comment begs for.)
Actually, Stock was the Mets 14th starter…
Also, it’s been 59 years and Mutts is the best you guys can come up with?
Mets scouts watching Madison Bumgarner later today in Arizona. We’ll see what that means in the coming days.
Guys, he told us! Bob told us that Eickhoff sucked, but we refused to listen! Now he’s been proven right and we all just look so dumb.
As long is his career is better than his debut we’re all good
Typical Mutts fans run their mouths how great they are then when times get tuff get offended because they were wrong about the crappy pitchers they pick up.Hamels is
waiting you fools go for it.
Hamels sounds more like a Brian Cashman signing than a Zack Scott signing. At least the Yankees got a no hitter out of Corey Kluber before he went down. Phillies looked in on Hamels. My money would be on them, if he goes anywhere. They are right there in the hunt for the playoffs the the weak NL East
No one was wrong about anything. He was a replacement for a replacement’s replacement. No one ever thought he’d be anything but filler. No Met fan is surprised by his performance. Nice straw man though.
Typical WHINNY CRANKEES FAN
Bob333 I’m so impressed that you knew Eickhoff would stink. He’d be the #2 starter on the Skanks.
Dr. Leo Marvin, you genius. You’re death therapy cured me, you genius.
You have such hot takes Bob.
I wonder what Roel he’ll have on the team. Clearly the Stock market crashed after the injury.
Doesn’t look like they’ll need him today. Stroman is DEALING. This Mets team is resilient.
When you choose to answer negativity and post negativity then you’ll get negativity.
Not rocket science. You have the choice. Just some POSITIVE advice.
Mets should claim Crick from PIT too.
The Mets still parked in first is amazing given the sheer number of injuries. The number of players who have cycled through, while still winning ballgames, is amazing. When the season started there was decent depth in the rotation, now the team is down to three legit starters that were on the opening day roster (and one of them, deGrom, is currently temporarily shelved, so we might as well make that 2).
He might be the worst statistical pitcher in MLB history
You’re judging him solely on ERA, which is 81.00… but you should really look at his FIP, which is only 62.19
Ramirez has a major league record that will never be broken. Back, to back, to back, to back jacks! Boom!!
I got the answer ! Trade for Wheeler and Matz! Instead of have independent league pitchers to fill in ?
If Ramirez’s career goes as the rest of John Mozeliak’s trades and releases—— this guy will be another World Series Star!!!!!
