Indians right-hander Cam Hill was reinstated from the injured list and optioned to Triple-A, per Ryan Lewis of the Akron Beacon Journal (via Twitter). Hill has been out for the entire season after having arm surgery that was the result of a car accident. He made the first 18 appearances of his career last season, tossing 18 1/3 innings with a 4.91 ERA/5.43 FIP.
Shane Bieber was transferred to the 60-day injured list to make room on the 40-man roster for Hill, per the team. Bieber has been out for 39 days with a subscapularis strain. When he went on the injured list (June 14), it was not at all clear how long Cleveland would be without their ace. The earlier’s he’ll now return is three weeks from today around August 15th.
At the time of his injury, the reigning AL Cy Young was the Major League leader in innings pitched with 90 2/3 IP. He worked to a 3.28 ERA with a 33.9 percent strikeout rate that ranked seventh in the Majors. Since Bieber went down, the Indians have fallen from 4.5 games behind the White Sox to now trailing the division leader by nine games.
Man there have been enough pitcher arm injuries from throwing as it is, we don’t need pitchers (or anyone) getting hurt in cars
Thoughts and prayers for a speedy recovery.
Sucks for Bieber and… errr… the Guardians. He was pitching well and hoping to see him and Cole battle it out for the CYA.
“Guardians”.
Ya know, Japan doesn’t even have a military but the NPB has the Chiba Lotte Marines. Was hoping Cleveland would go that direction with their team name.
Alas.
“Doesn’t have a military” lol. They definitely do
They have a “self-defense force”.
So sort of. But not really.
They have a massive navy, air force and army. Sure it’s technically a self-defense force but if you mess with them it’s going to fight
Did you know that there was already a sports team in Cleveland named the Guardians? It’s a professional Roller Derby team.
Taiwan has the Fuban Guardians…
Rumors are there is a galaxy full of them. Bezos and Musk tread lightly.
The Cleveland Lottes? More a SeaTac thing
great to see Hill back.
Looks like the “Guardians” let their guard down on Shane.
The name is so lame
Yeah so lame you know compared to multiple teams named after Socks
Socks are at least involved in the game of baseball. Guardians sounds like a Star Wars group of actors wearing plastic outfits.
Galaxy Quest
Time to man the phones and starting selling.
Who you going to sell Ramirez,Plesac?
Hernandez
Shaw
I think the market for Shaw us bigger than people realize
I won’t be surprised if the Dolans sell…..the team.
I would be. While they’re always looking for someone to take on partial ownership I don’t think they plan on giving up a majority stake unless some rich group throws an offer at them they can’t refuse. And of course, that’s what most Tribe are hoping happens sooner rather than later.
They need to sign Rick Vaughn.
They have him, James Karincheck #99.
FWIW, I’ve been saying for about 30 years that Cleveland should change its name to what Cleveland’s baseball team was called at the end of the 1800s: the Cleveland Spiders. I mean, that’s about as no-brainery as no-brainers get. Make a bunch of apparel with the Cleveland Spiders name on it (with Marvel Comics-esque font and graphics)? That’s like having a license to print money. But, this is an organization that loses to the **CUBS** in the World Series, so they should prolly change their name at every opportunity.
I was pulling for Spiders too, but it has no connection to the Cleveland Indians lineage, and I understand wanting the name to be something that really represented the city, you only have 1 shot. So Guardians it is. Winning some ball games is what will help get everyone on board eventually. They should combine this rebranding with also actually trying to win games, spend a little extra after a few straight years of cutting payroll.
Dolans…spend….bawahahahahaha. Stop it dude, you’re killing me. Spend…hahaha.
I said “should”. Dolan has increased spending twice in last 10 years and then backs it back down. 2022 would the time he SHOULD increase a bit again.
