The Astros announced they’ve placed star shortstop Carlos Correa on the COVID-19 injured list. Fellow infielder Taylor Jones has been recalled from Triple-A Sugar Land to take his spot on the active roster.
Correa has been sick, manager Dusty Baker told reporters (including Chandler Rome of the Houston Chronicle) before the team’s announcement of his IL placement. There’s no indication he’s actually tested positive for COVID-19; players can be placed on the COVID IL merely for feeling virus-like symptoms. There’s no minimum term for players on the COVID IL.
It has been a banner season for Correa, who’s bounced back from an average 2020 campaign to perform at an MVP-caliber level. The 26-year-old has hit a stellar .288/.385/.510 and popped sixteen home runs across 358 plate appearances. He’s also played excellent defense at shortstop and already been worth around four wins above replacement in the estimation of both FanGraphs and Baseball Reference. Both outlets have Correa among the ten most valuable position players in the league this season.
So pregnancy is a reason to go on the IL…………
I guess he wont have time to shop for that baby stroller after all
Correa me a river.
explosive diarrhea is no joke kids!
Dude has been killing it this year
Just trying to get out of the all star game so he doesn’t get boo’d
coupofthecentury I think the booing on the road has given him superpowers actually. He would probably hit 2 dingers with the amount of boos if he actually played in the ASG.
Hasn’t he been booed all year?
Nah, he’s just taking time off to film more cringe youtube vids with his wife
Such low class in the comments. Pathetic.
No. Low class is the systemic cheating from virtually every member of the ASStros. They made this mess, they get to sleep in the slop.
They’re still winning, and they don’t care at all what you think about them. So the slop you’re slinging stays in your crib, not theirs.
They get to lie in the nasty comments made online by fans?
You need to read the papers. Other teams cheat. Not sure if you noticed but the league just had to make most pitchers stop cheating. Are you still upset about Randy Johnson killing the bird too?
M o v e O n
Guess it’s just not snitches who need stitches
@NuancedJamesian –
Here we go. Hope we get to see a good series.
mmm…that’s actually a lie. I hope we absolutely clobber the Astros.
Go Astros. Cheers, Ducky.
Hey, you too. Should be fun. Astros are playing great. Yanks are scuffling & in an absolute scrum to stay relevant.
Looking forward to seeing how we respond.
Catch ya, @GoAstros123. Bottoms up.
what’s up with 6 singles and a double?
Oddly, I considered giving you pro-tip earlier today : NO launch angle, go with pitch, drive ball.
Well done so far. Hope we bury you so far you’re looking up at the Orioles 🙂
Tyler Wade goes the other way and beats the shift. Well done. 8 hits and a walk.
Switching it up.
Hey, I broke out my camo Stetson to try & shake things up. Good results to this point. I feel all synched up with my ballclub. Gonna wear it tomorrow too.
“Y’all” got GGBG’d. Good to see. God love all the stupid grinders, man.
Got Cole going tomorrow. Be sweet to lockdown the series win.
It’s hard to explain what it’s like to be a Yankee fan. So many fan bases hate us so much. Ya know? Not without reason, uh? So for me, this Houston club is just the latest in what seems to be an unending line of teams giving us their best shot. But – personally – I don’t view them as a rival. Just another edition of: Team X Soon To Be Forgotten.
But these teams do seem to carry a certain level of disdain for one another. Which is how sports should be played.
Anyway; I keep saying it. But this Yankee squad is going to be tough to kill.
Bet.
we did, indeed, get GGBG’d (had to look that up)
I don’t think it’s disdain; I think it’s mutual respect.
Yanks played really really good actual baseball. Keep doing THAT and you’ll be back in this thing in a month.
Congrats on game 1.
I can’t help but love Gardy.
He’s certainly looking his age this year. & has a tendency to wear down even more so in the second half. Got us a win last night though. May be running out of – ya know – Good Games.
I honestly don’t think they like each other very much.
I appreciate your take on BA & offense. & aesthetically, it was a good game. But this offense is built on the premise of hitting home runs. If the Yanks don’t hit the baseball over the fence we just aren’t going to be that effective offensively. How Cash put us together.
Well, you know.
That was yesterday. Gotta get up & get ’em again today.

Looking forward to watching Greinke work this evening. Always liked him. Can’t wait to see him toss a few change ups harder than his FB.
Don’t @me. He does. Go to Savant if you don’t believe me.
Go Yanks.
1965 Mets vs Astros broadcast – game hasn’t really changed all that much
archive.org/details/classicmlbbaseballradio/196508…
This is what traderumors needs more of: peaceful discussions like this. Where’s YankeeClipper been?
D’accord, @goastros123.
I think this is how it’s actually supposed to go. But, I like you guys. If I ever ran into you or @Jamesian in the pub you fellas would drink for free.
@Clip hasn’t been around much.
I think he’s not the biggest fan of how a few things went on the board.
what was your first year of Astros fandom, Go?
2005.
whoa dude you had to live through a lot of bad before they got great again
LOVE Cole – telling Boone to get the **** back in the dugout
MY GOSH that was worth 35 million right there. Extraordinary outing.
Cole is a great pitcher.
“Cole battles to blank Astros: ‘That took guts’
Yankees ace allows only 3 hits with 12 K’s on season-high 129 pitches
Three strikes separated Gerrit Cole from a shutout and the Yankees ace snarled atop the mound, barking a few choice expletives that began with the letter “F” into the face of his manager. On this night, in this ballpark, absolutely no one was taking the baseball out of his right hand.
Cole’s start had been in jeopardy days prior, having received IV drips during the club’s visit to Seattle. Bracing for a short outing, the Yankees instead watched Cole dig deep for one of the team’s gutsiest pitching efforts in recent memory, blanking the Astros on three hits in a 1-0 victory on Saturday in his first start at Minute Maid Park as a Yankee.”
“Probably one of the great ones I’ve ever seen, certainly in a regular-season setting,” manager Aaron Boone said. “It’s a big weekend for us, with him coming back here for the first time. Honestly, two days ago I didn’t know if he was going to be able to make the start. Not only does he go out there, he does that. That’s about as special as it gets.”
Observed Astros manager Dusty Baker: “He reached back at the end. It was similar to Tom Seaver. In the late innings, he would kind of ditch the rest of his pitches and rely on the fastball, especially the high fastball.””

LOL pocket calculator dudes on this site all “bUT aCKHuLLy” while Cole just goes out and does it.
“tHErE iS NO sUCh THiNg aS GrIt aNd gUTs!!!!!111111111111”
Reminds me of when David Cone came off the IL & threw 7 shutout. Bullets from the heart, bro.
Obviously, I am thinking, “sweep ’em & get the hell outta Texas”. Camo Stetson working out perfectly
Was that baseball, or was that baseball Ducky?
straightforward from here :
1. Cole single-handedly drags Yankees back into contention as, inspired by a HERO, Yanks go on a major tear starting tomorrow.
2. Cole wins Cy Young, MVP, plus winning 4 of his 5 starts in post-season, losing the 5th one 1-0 in the 13th on an error by Judge, Altuve circles the bases as it rolls to the wall.
3. Cashman to Cole : “‘k, who we need to pick up?” Cole : “JV & Correa”
Ducky down with all that.
I am pretty much the Lone Ranger on the board. Even my fellow Yankee fans – a great group of fellas – are calling to throw in the towel on ’21.
Nope.
Too many good players on the roster. & – more importantly – we are the damn Yankees. We don’t rebuild. We don’t tank. We always play meaningful baseball. Always.
My grandpere was taking me to The Stadium since before I can remember. Saw Chambliss off Littel. How could I ever be a fan of another team? I am absolutely one of those “entitled Yankee fans”. I’ve made peace with it.
Camo Stetson for the sweep.
Mom worked at team spring training hotel in 1979 and 1980. Met many players, played with their kids. Even played catch with Nolan Ryan, J.R. Richard, and Joe Niekro among others.
A utility player, AAAA guy named Julio Gonzalez gave me my first box of baseball cards.
Hooked for life
That is AWESOME!!!!!!!!
3-game series, team having to face Richard then Niekro then Ryan, very enjoyable for this Astros fan.
Yes, what could have been. . .
At the time J.R. Richard was like a giant to me. He was impossibly big. The biggest man I had ever seen or imagined.
Those teams of the early/mid 80s would have been legendary if he had not had the stroke.
Imagine a rotation of Ryan, Richard, Niekro, and Mike Scott?
Vern Ruhle, Don Sutton, and Bob Knepper were also starters during this time and very good at times.Easily good #5 guys.
Knepper at his best could utterly shut down the opposition, throwing that lollygag curve and never breaking a sweat.
Except that he wasn’t mean, Richard was Bob Gibson scary to dig in against.
I have NEVER floated a trade proposal in my life, so here we go – Yankees send to Cubs Stanton, Sanchez, and top starting pitcher prospect in exchange for Bryant, Marisnick, and Chirinos. Yankees win way more games.
Cubs re-package Stanton & Sanchez to ……..
Hmmmmmm.
jomboy frantically digging through audio
Judge should NEVER have done that, and I’ll bet he heard from Cole about it.
Marisnick = Locastro = 0 net gain
Chirinos couldn’t make the Yankees as a *backup cathcer*
Stanton is a better hitter than Bryant
I extra don’t care for this deal & without even texting Cashman I know he’d feel the same way.
Camo Stetson couldn’t finish off the sweep. German. That guy, man. But the Yanks have leaned way too heavily on our pen. Need to add a starter. Pineda?
Anyway.
I’ll take a series win on the road every time though.
I think both teams won: Yankees win the series, while the Astros get a huge win. Last time the Astros beat the Yankees, they went on a winning streak.
Cole & Altuve showing how it’s done.
HUGE win for us, Judge takes the L, bet he’ll never do THAT again.
I absolutely love how you have a positive take about everything, @goastros123.
I get it. I’m not just a pollyana. I’m a turbo pollyana.
It’s certainly not everyone’s style.
All told – however – it’s served me well, & I wouldn’t want to be any other way.
camo stetson playin’ .667, that’ll generally win a division
Games 2 and 3 were EPIC storylines.
Some times, Ducky, a loss like this can really bring everyone together via serving as a wake up call and all of a sudden they start playing better and string together some wins. We’ll have to see if that happens to the Yankees or not.
See what I mean!
Life’s too short to be a gloomy Gus. My eternal optimism drove ex-wife #2 crazy. In my defense, she had terrible taste in music. & other things. Husbands perhaps…
Perhaps the Stetson only works when we play in Texas.
Survived this trip out West. Took two series. Just keep winning series & we will be ok. See these guys in the playoffs.
you know, I felt REALLY bad as we swept White Sox & Indians, don’t want to absolutely ruin them, and
I kinda feel that way about Yanks, EXCEPT crushing y’all might change y’all’s team construction paradigm, which would be good for baseball
Gallon of Blue Bell on me Ducky, if we win series
Losing Correa makes it an actual even series.
So he’s anti-vaccine? Interesting, all the worst people are, just like a World Series cheater would!
That would actually be the juicing bash brothers you’re referring to.
Where does it mention vaccines in the article?
It doesn’t, but par for the course for A’sfaninUK, who wouldn’t DARE pull that crap in public in the county I live in
Exactly.
You sound just like Smeagol, cursing his grandmother and all Bagginses – “we hatessssssssssssssss them”, except more sssss’s
7 fully vaccinated Yankees got a positive covid test.
Please resign as chief epidemiologist.
It’s going to be fantastic when Correa leaves the Astros and is on one of the teams some of you root for. Watching some of you become fanboys will be awesome. Get your Yankee or Angel Correa jerseys!!!!
there’s a hilarious guy on here who posts as a Yankees fan but I’ve only seen him in Astros threads, and each post he adds championships that Astros have cost Yankees, so we’re up to like eleven now but he knows that if Correa became a Yank he and Correa would become v good friends.
He’s an Astro for life. The team already let Springer walk last year in anticipation of Correa becoming a free agent in 2021. They will have plenty of money to spend on Carlos after the season with both Verlander’s and Greinke’s contracts expiring as well.
Time for a massage Carlos…..
I’m an Astros fan but that’s actually funny.
