The Angels announced they’ve placed first baseman Jared Walsh on the 10-day injured list, retroactive to July 27, with a right intercostal strain. Right-hander Austin Warren has been selected to the roster in his place. Additionally, Los Angeles recalled infielder Matt Thaiss and optioned righty Andrew Wantz to Triple-A Salt Lake.
There’s no timetable for Walsh’s return, although any absence is a tough blow to an Angels club on the outskirts of the Wild Card race. Los Angeles enters play tonight five games back of the Athletics for the American League’s final playoff spot, with the Mariners, Yankees, Blue Jays and Indians all above them in the pecking order. They’ll have to go at least the next week-plus without their All-Star first baseman, who has hit .266/.320/.516 with 22 home runs over 394 plate appearances.
Warren is now set to make his major league debut. The 25-year-old has worked 36 1/3 innings of relief with Salt Lake this season. While his 6.19 ERA isn’t appealing, Warren has struck out a lofty 27.1% of opposing hitters against a slightly elevated 10.8% walk rate.

At what point do the Angels do Mike Trout a favor and trade him?
PoppyGetsSloppy
Yawn……..!
RunDMC
The point that Mike Trout does the Angels a favor and nullifies the contract.
paddyo furnichuh
Is nullifying the contract an actual clause of a facetious dream?
paddyo furnichuh
Or* a facetious dream

One size can’t decide they don’t want to honor the agreement. However, both sides could theoretically negotiate a release or buyout.
Famously, Bobby Bonilla was released by the Mets in 1999 with $5.9 million left on his deal. As the Wilpons (Mets owner) lost significant money being tied up with Madoff’s Ponzi scheme, Bonilla’s agent offered a deal. Instead of receiving the $5.9 when due, the Mets could delay payment for a decade and pay Bonilla $1.19 million a year from 2011 to 2035.
So, yes, it is possible to negotiate an exit agreement before a contract expires if both sides want too.

Other than Padres and Dodgers. What core would you take over; Walsh, Ohtani, rendon, trout, Adell, marsh, fletcher, Sandoval, canning and Detmers?
MrAngelFan
@bkbkbkbk People are still sleeping on Stassi. I realize he came to the Angels as a defensive only player that couldn’t hit a lick but he has put up some impressive offensive numbers over the past couple of seasons for a catcher.
Angels & NL West
MrAngelFan, totally agree regarding Stassi. He’s a .900 OPS guy in ’20 and ’21 over 266 PA.
bkbkbkbk
Agreed. He’s an elite catcher if his hip thing isn’t chronic

Brewers and Mets have a pretty solid base, but your question has clear archangel biases.
HaloBoltman
He signed a life time contact for a reason. Keep hitting that bong.
Geno55
Probably when The Mets trade Jacob DeGrom
SoCalADRL
I get that they’ve haven’t won s$&t and I’ve been as critical as anyone but give it a rest dude. He signed a lifetime contract for a reason. He likes living and playing here, get over it.

Hi Bud. This it was I wrote in response to another goofball who started the trade Trout comments: It certainly applies here too:
1) Trout chose to spend his career as an Angel.
2) Trout has a full no trade clause.
3) Trout chose to spend his career as an Angel.
Please try to wrap your head around that. Tell your friends too.
bravesfan0618
I’m with you. I’m beginning to believe that Trout is in it for the money. He plays when he wants and doesn’t have himself out there as a face for MLB as much as they want him too. Puzzling
Stop Giving Billionaires Money
The Angels are sad to watch.
Honestly I think Trout likes losing.
He’s never won and when he made it to the playoffs he’s batting sub .200.
At what point is Trout an overrated loser?
If he hits .400 but never wins a World Series, I’m not impressed.
I want my team to win though, angel fans don’t care about winning.
dirkg
Clearly you’re not watching the Angels. Shohei Ohtani is the best thing going in sports and is a must see every game. Dude carried the team again tonight for a win.
MrAngelFan
@dirkg No need to respond to this troll. A troll making negative comments about the best player in the game for attention, in hopes to illicit some sort of response. Calling Trout a loser. I think it is apparent who the actual loser is. Pathetic.

What has Trout contributed to the Angels?
Aaron 13
This notion that the Angels somehow owe Mike Trout anything is hilarious. The only thing they owe him is the money they’ve agreed to pay him under his contract. Beyond that, they could trade away everyone and field a AA team and Trout would have zero say in it whatsoever.
The Angels do not owe Trout a championship, they do not owe him a playoff run, they do not even owe him a winning season. If anything Trout owes the Angels about 60+ games that he has been sitting on his ass hurt. If he’d been pulling his end of that contract this season might have gone better…

Angels still two years away.
orange2001
They’ve been two years away for the last 7 years.

lol always 2 years away

Angels are the Orioles of the west coast.
They’ll never win important games.

I realize Walsh has cooled down a bit since the all star game, and this article isn’t really about his performance. BUT… its as good a place as any to make this point… I think it’s weird it took him as long as it did to get a legitimate shot in the majors… or really to get a shot at all. I mean he tore up minor league pitching but was kind of slowly promoted along. And based on how he’s played since being given a chance 2020/21… it seems like maybe he should have been given a shot sooner. regardless happy for him that he’s established himself in the majors now and wish him the best of luck and a quick recovery from the IL

It’s not just since the all star break, it’s been since the beginning of June fwiw

Albert blocking him? Idk he has good arm in RF too idk, I also thought he would get chance earlier….

“While his 6.19 ERA isn’t appealing, Warren has struck out a lofty 27.1% of opposing hitters against a slightly elevated 10.8% walk rate.”
It doesn’t matter what Warren’s strike out rate is if he is giving up over 6 runs per nine innings on average. That’s almost as bad as saying “but his spin rate is above average”. It doesn’t matter if he can’t prevent runs. And that’s in AAA. We should be trading for an MLB ready reliever or two to get us over the hump.
Ron Tingley
Luke Bard once had the best spin rate in baseball. Which is why the Angels wanted him in the first place, and well.. we got what we got out of him.
johndietz
Why hasn’t our GM done ANYTHING about the bullpen!?!?!??!
Geno55
What team are you referring to?
MetsMosLoyal 2
Sad to see this injury… asking for a friend LOL but drop him in Fantasy Baseball? Already have lot of IR players… advice appreciated!
SwingtheFNbat
Ouch! The big 4 is down to ONE. After this news, I’d be pro advocate on selling now for sure. Might as well get some trade pieces for the winter. This off-season looks to be crazy, and should set up the Angels to have a very good 2 year run.
Good luck and Best wishes to: Cobb and Both Iggy’s, and maybe even Heaney. Piece 😉
