A couple of minor moves from around the league:
- Marlins infielder Luis Marté has cleared waivers and been assigned outright to Triple-A Jacksonville, relays Jordan McPherson of the Miami Herald (Twitter link). Marté was designated for assignment earlier this week when the club reinstated Elieser Hernández from the 60-day injured list. (Unfortunately, Hernández has subsequently gone back on the IL.) Marté officially debuted in the big leagues by appearing in one game with Miami, and he’ll now return to Triple-A, where he’s hitting .263/.279/.456 this season.
- The Giants acquired minor league catcher Bruce Maxwell from the Mets in exchange for cash considerations, the two clubs announced. He’ll be assigned to Double-A Richmond, per John Shea of the San Francisco Chronicle (Twitter link). Maxwell spent parts of the 2016-18 seasons across the Bay, appearing in 127 games with the A’s and posting a .240/.314/.347 line over 412 plate appearances at the MLB level. Maxwell signed a minor league deal with the Mets over the offseason, so he won’t require a 40-man roster spot. He’d only picked up 31 plate appearances for the Mets Triple-A affiliate in Syracuse.

Bruce Maxwell… haven’t heard that name in a while. Hopefully delivery drivers during the last year haven’t either.
FredMcGriff for the HOF
I’m surprised Maxwell is even playing professional baseball after that incident. He was also smart enough to yell profanities at the responding police officers…. Just google his name along with “delivery driver”.

I can’t say I’m surprised. I’m more surprised Hector Olivera never got another chance, such a big name international free agent signing just dropped by the entire league? Not even minors deals at prorated? What did he do that was beyond guys like chapman that got him blackballed? I know he was older, but it’s weird he never got a shot somewhere.
Not posting in support, just more in curiosity. I assume it had to be terrible, but I honestly can’t imagine what it could be.

Work Mohlers is right. I’m not surprised either Crime Dog. Giants like his activism. If they were looking for bad apples with talent they would’ve signed Roberto Osuna.
DarkSide830
it seems, even when they are good, a lot of minor league journeymen debut with the Marlins.
Wilmer Flores' Tears
Didn’t we cancel Bruce Maxwell? I forget why I cancelled everybody and usually follow the trends like everybody else. Anything to be outraged at today (and only for today)? I’m not invested enough to look that up myself, so thank you in advance.

I love the fact you instantly like all your comments.

He does it one-handed because the other hand is busy.

Maxwell is nothing but minor league filler. I’d be surprised if he gets any real chance to play in the Majors again
DarkSide830
i dunno, in a league where some teams carry 3 catchers, and catchers can get injured, i think he will likely get another shot given he’s in AAA already. there arent a load of catchers, he’s probably top 90 as far as talents currently available to play for a MLB club.
Rsox
If he’s “top 90” than he’s barely holding on to 90. Which would still mean there are 89 better options out there
Ron Tingley
Theyre are putting him in AA.

NOBODY WANTS BRUCE MAXWELL what an absolute bum! GET THIS GUY AWAY from our team farhan!

Luis Marte with a career OPS+ of 5!

I’m surprised Manfred hasn’t given Maxwell a job in the league front office to keep with his policy of non stop virtue signaling.

You lot sound like you’ve accomplished much more in your baseball careers than Maxwell. Sad that some of you want him banished for his constitutional right to protest against police brutality. More players, even those in the HOF has done more: Roberto Alomar spitting at an umpire’s face; Clemens throwing a piece of a bat back at Piazza; pitchers cheating; steroids and greenies; intentional beanings and on and on. Give the guy a break. As a (former) soldier, I wasn’t allowed to publicly show any activism towards local or national government. Civilians are fortunate enough to be allowed to show their opinions towards anything and everything. All of you, at one point, probably voiced out or acted out your displeasure towards something, publicly.

I’m guessing that none of us has ever pulled a gun on a delivery person.
