2:15 PM: The Dodgers have claimed Wahl off waivers, per Jorge Castillo of the LA Times (via Twitter). To make room on the 40-man roster, they moved Corey Seager to the 60-day injured list. He will not, therefore, return to the team before July 15.
11:08 AM: As expected, the Brewers have selected the contract of Aaron Ashby to make his Major League debut in today’s game against the Cubs. Pablo Reyes was optioned to Triple-A to make room on the active roster, and Bobby Wahl was designated for assignment, the team announced. The latter move was necessary to add Ashby to the 40-man roster.
Wahl, 29, will be exposed to waiver claim by any of the game’s other 29 teams. He made three appearances for the Brewers last season, but Wall has yet to appear in a game at the big-league level this season. He’s appeared in 13 games at Triple-A, however, struggling to a 9.58 ERA over that span. He has, at least, flashed some strikeout ability, striking out 18 over 10 1/3 innings. The Brewers acquired from the Mets in 2019 as part of the Keon Broxton trade.
As for Reyes, the 27-year-old infielder/outfielder has slashed .224/.240/.265 line in 50 plate appearances. The former Pirate has fared much better in 49 trips in Triple-A, with a triple slash line of .350/.449/.600. The Brewers will be down to a four-man bench for today, so Reyes could return shortly.
Too bad! Wahl was thought to be the centerpiece of the Keon Broxton trade with the Mets. Good to to Ashby get his ticket punches to the show though!
“Centerpiece” of a trade for a career .209 hitter is not a huge prospect. He was always a bit of a wild card who threw hard but had issues with control and mechanics. But hey, they used one of those other pieces in Adam Hill to go get Narvaez.
Before that he was part of the nothing that the Mets got back for Familia. He was always a fringe major leaguer at best.
Dangit Bobby! You were supposed to give up a bunch of runs to my Cubs team!
As of right now, Bobby’s career has hit another Wahl, You know you were going to say it, but I beat you to it.
“And the Wahl, comes tumbling down…”
Great arm, has issues staying healthy
Has more issues with control.
multiple teams have waited however long on this dude just to unload him as soon as he gets healthy.
Baseball is a brutal game of transactions! AA gets his
day, another player of unmet potential gets dumped .In an ideal world, the MLB roaster would be larger! Good Luck Boby Wahl!
Phillies will claim Wahl anybody with an era above 5.00 is much better than the guys in the pen now.
Anybody know if waivers are league-specific at this point? When a team like LA, as good as they’ve proven to be in evaluations, gets somebody on waivers ,it just makes me wonder.
It’s reverse by record, as always
The dodgers are the probably most active team at manipulating 40 man rosters
It’s a combo of this guy isn’t that great, and most teams are too lazy or don’t have an easy move to open up a 40 man slot
I was wondering if it was league specific.
I think it goes reverse order starting with the league the player was in first and then goes reverse order (of wins) with the other league. But I’m not sure. So I guess I’m useles.
Dodgers like Milwaukee’s castoffs. Not sure what that says about either team. Nelson, Knebel and now Wahl.
Dodgers got Bickford as well which has been a nice pick up.
I’m gonna reserve judgment on that one for now. Bickford looks okay on paper but still makes me cringe every time he appears on the mound. Maybe someday he’ll be a pitcher instead of a thrower but I wish he was figuring it out in the minors.
Hader next please
NO! NO!
They both target high spin rate pitchers
Not hard and nothing crazy
They both target high spin rate pitchers
Not hard
And nothing crazy
And for poops and giggles, Ashby got absolutely creamed today.
Should have not started this game. Bringing him in in the 3rd and letting Sanchez or Suter start would have been easier on the kid. He looked petrified
Meanwhile….the Cubs are Cubbin again
The cubs lineup looked like a Minor League team. Mr Asby need better luck next time He is getting his plane ticket now!
Sogard is their best pitcher since it seems the Cubs have no interest in using Kimbrel outside of the 9th inning. Oh well, I guess my Brewers will just have to take 1st place from them. Cubs “dynasty” = over.
As far as his professional development is concerned, Bobby has hit the WAHL !!
Bobby Wahl? Didn’t he play bass for Poison?
