The Braves have acquired right-hander Ty Tice from the Blue Jays in exchange for cash considerations, according to ESPN.com’s Kiley McDaniel (Twitter link).
Tice was designated for assignment earlier this week when the Jays selected the contract of the recently-signed Carl Edwards Jr. In a sense, today’s transaction serves as a Tice-for-Edwards swap, as Edwards and the Braves parted ways after Atlanta DFA’ed him in early May, with Toronto then adding Edwards on another minors contract a few days later.
Tice was a 16th-round pick for the Jays in the 2017 draft, and the Arkansas native made his MLB debut this season with seven innings out of the Toronto bullpen (posting a 5.14 ERA). Over 143 1/3 career innings in the minors, Tice has an impressive 2.07 ERA and 25.75% strikeout rate, though his 10.96% walk rate is on the high side. He also has all of his minor league options remaining, giving the Braves some flexibility in shuttling him back and forth from Triple-A if necessary.
Is Tice nice, or no dice?
He will suffice.
Way to be concise, but my advice is guys should be more precise than Tice. You only get so many tries before you excise a guy nobody can disguise as a pitcher to entice. But maybe he adds a little spice picking up a new pitch device to reach new highs.
Hopefully the cash considerations weren’t too high a price.
For just cash, the Braves were easy to entice
To the I.L. due to lice…
I heard it was the IL due to a bad dream about mice.
Think twice. Cold as ice.
I could care less as long as all his opponents swing and miss thrice.
The Braves picked him up hoping that he will work his magic on Bryce!
I would have taken a bowl of rice over Tice….
All I know about this guy is that he’s really good in OOTP 22
Alex Anthopolous is beating the bushes, acquiring arms by hook or crook!
Last time we had TT on the mound was when the Braves staff had to pitch against Barry Bonds.
AA is just teasing MLB until the deadline. He is planning a big shocker. Rumors say Tommy Milone is available.
The joke would have worked if Milone wasn’t with the Jays… and on the 60-day IL lol.
And he can be yours, Atlanta…if the Tice is right!
I think the Jays dropped the ball on this one. Tice is still young and would have given him more of a chance then signing Edwards.
Tice has a great arm. I was surprised by his release from the Jays. I wouldn’t sign Edwards at the expense of Tice..
Edwards is release fodder. Wait for it. He stinks.
Well that’s a fun name
It’s a wait a see on Tice. I don’t like the walk percentage though. Personally I’m waiting for them to just move on from Dayton this dude gives up bombs almost every appearance.enough lefty’s in BP anyway.
Team needs some “Thunder” in the batting order. That is the true need besides the mess in the bullpen.
AA and the TOR front office in a Mexican standoff for fringe MLers.
Man, I like to think I’m pretty solid on the business side of baseball, but then moves like this happen and it makes me question myself. Did he not have options left? Can someone tell me what the logic of DFA’ing someone who’s only pitched in 4 mlb games at the age of 26? Seems like he would have options left at the very least.
Makes you wonder huh.
Not really that much to wonder about.
Their 40 man roster is full. They can’t take him off the 40 man without designating him whether he has options or not.
They made the choice he was the most expendable. There’s no one on the 40 man that’s an obviously better choice to designate…. so…

I gotcha now. For some reason I though if you’re optioned you’re taken off the 40 man roster.
AA needs to sell high on Luke Jackson. That ERA is never gonna be that low again.
True, but I don’t think many front offices take reliever ERA that seriously. His FiP (3.89) is a little more telling, though he’s still walking way too many (4.3 per 9IP).
DMC is right, but the overall concept is Luke Jackson’s value is at an all time high. The question is who or what do we trace him for. As high as it might be, we A.) kinda need him right now and B.) still wouldn’t get much for him. “Best” case scenario, he maintains somehow until the trade deadline and we are pretty much not contending. This he has some value in the market. But I’ll take him pitching like this and contending first lol
Its a start, still need more bullpen help and maybe an outfielder. Why not call up Orlando Arcia to play 3rd and put Riley in left? Are they afraid Riley might stop hitting? Anyone have an opinion?
They look at that as then having to replace their LF and then replacing their 3B.
Mireso though, they want to award Riley for all the hard work he has put in at 3B, and reward him.for the job he’s done thus far this year. In my opinion, that’s why they’re keeping Riley at 3rd..
I, personally, wouldn’t mind trying Arcia out in LF, and seeing how he handles it at AAA…
Heredia has been a pleasant surprise, but that still leaves either LF or CF unless they recall Pache, and give him another shot. His defense in CF is GG worthy, and he has a rocket launcher for an arm, but he’s started off really slowly this season only occasionally showing some pop and a solid approach at the plate…
If Pache could continue focusing on hitting the ball the other way, then he could be just fine, but he just tends to get too aggressive and too pull happy..
They didn’t think tice about that about acquiring him
AA won’t be satisfied until he acquires everyone he ever drafted when he was the Jays’ GM.
So Travis Bergen is available…. But Jordan Romano is not.
The reason AA likes Jays and former Jays is because he knows them and what they have the potential of doing. Plus there are a few former Jays properties out there that the Jays whiffed on that are doing okay.
Oh boy! Another high walk guy. The Braves don’t have enough of those.
That’s kind of where my mind went too. We just watched a run walked in from tonight’s fiasco against the Dodgers!
Edwards took the place of Tice with the Jay’s, that speaks loudly. Either get some decent additions or be sellers at the break. Keep the youngsters at the MLB level and start dumping the dead wood. Then bring up a few rookies to get experience .
The Dodgers are licking their chops for this series.
The young man gets another chance at the show.
Do the Braves FO Executives just sit there looking for players with high walk rates or something? The Braves don’t need anymore pitchers who come in and walk guys. We have enough of those. Im not sure what “analytics” the Braves FO is using but they need to talk to the Tampa bay rays FO about how they use analytics and take some pointers from them. This has become laughable. The Braves are a complete joke at this point and instead of going out and trading for some quality players they keep going dumpster diving for scraps no one else wants hope they strike gold. They haven’t
