TODAY: Bregman has been officially placed on the injured list, Dusty Baker told Mark Berman and other reporters. Outfielder/catcher Garrett Stubbs has been called up to take Bregman’s spot on the active roster.
JUNE 16, 10:29pm: A more specific timeline for Bregman’s return will become clearer tomorrow, but it seems he’s looking at an injured list stint. Manager Dusty Baker told reporters (including Berman) the expectation is Bregman will be out “for a while.”
7:53pm: Bregman departed due to a left quad strain, relays Brent Zwerneman of the Houston Chronicle.
7:37pm: Astros star Alex Bregman left this evening’s game against the Rangers in the first inning. Bregman appeared to suffer a lower body injury while trying to beat out a ground ball (video provided by Mark Berman of Fox 26). Robel García replaced him at third base.
Bregman is amidst another very strong season, albeit not at his 2018-19 MVP-caliber level. The 27-year-old is hitting .275/.359/.428 (121 wRC+) with seven homers over his first 262 plate appearances. At 38-28, Houston sits three games back of the Athletics in the AL West, so a significant injury to Bregman would be a devastating blow. Of course, there’s no indication at this point he’s facing any sort of long-term absence.
If Bregman were to miss time, García and Abraham Toro would seem the likeliest options to pick up the slack at the hot corner. Primary utilityman Aledmys Díaz is out until at least late July due to a hand fracture.

Toro hitting a devastating .083
Colt 45
IKR? But he’s prob on a short leash, like when they dfa’d Straw & Tucker a month ago sub .150 BA’s – I think both those guys are playing indy-ball in Yugoslavia now.
Astros front office horrendous judges of talent.
Fever Pitch Guy
Thoughts and prayers for a speedy recovery.
Colt 45
Thank you; I’m feeling a LOT better tho
Fever Pitch Guy
Hahaha thumbs up!
Lrtexasman
Stupid comment. Neither were DFAd. Tucker Is hitting .268 with13 HRs and Straw is hitting .258 and playing a much improved CF in his first year of regular playing time.
Colt 45
think about it, fellow Texan 🙂
Lrtexasman
Stupid comment. Neither were DFAd. Tucker Is hitting .268 with13 HRs and Straw is hitting .258 and playing a much improved CF in his first year of regular playing time. They are such bad judges of talent they lead MLB in average, hits, and RBIs with many regulars missing two weeks due to covid and are 7th in Pitching even with the loss of Verlander for the year and Framber for most of the season.
Colt 45
Dude, c’mon! Don’t whoosh on me like a Yankee TTO behemoth.
Colt 45
also, while you missed the entire point I was making, you left out MLB lead in runs and fewest batter whiffs
astros2017
To be fair all of the guys contributing are Luhnow guys, or were here from the Ed Wade era already. Click has a lot to prove
Colt 45
Seems to me that they haven’t missed a beat, and decisions are still being made as brilliantly as under Luhnow – rarely seen a team for whom EVERY personnel move seems to work out well as much as they do for Astros
Lrtexasman
Not really. Wade was fired in 2011.
lsujedi
Altuve is a Wade guy
Colt 45
small in quantity but HUGE in quality 🙂
Unclenolanrules
Check the oxygen level in your brain, looks like your down a few quarts.
Donna R
Talent enough I would say.
Colt 45
they should have listened to your wisdom before playing him tonight good call on your part
FletcherFan66
*insert James Worthy RIP BOZO video*
Nothing
Never cheer for an injury, but I’m not feeling bad for him in the slightest.
steven st croix
Do you say the same for Springer?
CamFrost
Absolutely not. Players that leave don’t get hated. Which just shows that nobody really cares. They just want to hate the Astros bc the media told them to.
Colt 45
spot on
Nothing
No, I don’t, but not for the reason you may think. The only astors players I have some disdain for are Bregman and Correa. They were the only 2 who were really unapologetic about what happened, expressed no remorse. I’ve gotten over the rest (Altuve, Springer, etc) honestly
CamFrost
Wow. Very convenient.
Colt 45
I’ll ask Alex & Carlos to PERSONALLY apologize to him.
casorgreener
And yet they are still champions…

I bet you have gotten over Springer, he’s on your side now. I’m sure you’ve also forgiven Teoscar Hernandez, who was also on the 2017 Astros, but let’s not talk about that.
ab3b29
Yet with an assterisk!
jjd002
There is literally video of Correa and Bergman talking about it and apologizing.
I mean, I personally would not apologize for taking the fall for the rest of the league, if they did.
People like you are a joke.
echozulu88
All springer said about it was quote: “I believe in myself. I believe in my performances. I believe in the team that was there,”
jjd002
He’s not on the team anymore so he’s ok now.
pc01
Yawn. “I never cheer for an injury, but I’m glad this guy tweaked his hamstring because of those trash cans.” Such a hot take, we’re all far better off having seen it.
Ww0907
Like I’m okay with hating cheating, I just want people to hate all cheating. Don’t pull for Springer just because he’s in Toronto now, or let Alex Cora off the hook because he’s in Boston, AJ Hinch in Detroit. Btw, notice how quickly Hinch and Cora got jobs in baseball? Day they were eligible I believe. Mets and blue jays fought over Springer and when Correa hits FA, teams will line up to pay him. Baseball execs don’t care about the scandal and fans only seem to if it’s current Astros guys. So I truly don’t mind the boos, I mind the hypocrisy. Additionally, Altuve didn’t even use the trash can much, certainly less than Marwin, Springer, or Correa, yet he gets the brunt of the boos and doesn’t complain. Other people around the league may hate Jose but we love that guy and I’m proud to call that guy an Astro, even if he got caught up in some bad stuff.
YankeesBleacherCreature
I think a large part of that stems from how Jim Crane reacted to the scandal. The man is out of touch and took very little accountability. Not that that attitude doesn’t apply to many other owners across sports. I don’t care if he was aware of it or not. Cheating has always been part of the game. Remember corked bats? Then ash bats became the rage for a hot minute. and now it’s the norm.
Unclenolanrules
I wrote Crane a nasty letter after that press conference. Spoiled entitled rich man.
Astros2333
100% agree. That PR team should have been fired for that awful press conference. They owned up to the cheating (yes they apologized, maybe not as apologetic as other fans wanted but they did), but to be naive that they were the only team cheating is just dumb.
A'sfaninUK
Karma comes for those who deserve it.
Colt 45
totally, I remember when it came for John Lennon.
echozulu88
And Ghandi
CamFrost
What are you going to say about the whole league when we find out many other teams were doing the same thing? Or will it always be the Astros that you hate?
blockheag36
Always the Astros as they have been confirmed as cheaters….
CamFrost
We have an entire league of pitchers that we have factual proof that their RPMs have plummeted since they stopped using sticky stuff. The MLB was well aware the Astros and others were sign stealing with technology. As they were well aware of most the pitchers in the league using foreign substances on the ball. The MLB wanted to just use the Astros as the example so ppl like you would just dislike them and think they were alone in the sign stealing. It’s a league full of cheaters in every way they can imagine.
Ww0907
And y’all last won a playoff series…when?
Lrtexasman
Not really. Wade was fired in 2011.
bobtillman
Tough night for injuries. But good news for Orioles fans. GM said Chris Davis is beginning to get back into baseball shape.
Rsox
He bought a time machine?
echozulu88
Baseballs are round
neurogame
Bergman could have used a massage gun to loosen those muscles. It’s not as if massage guns are scarce in the clubhouse.
jessaumodesto
He’s a cheater! Boooo booooo boooooo!
JayKay
Are you saying “Boooo” or “Boo-urns”?
humphrey x boegarts
I was saying “Boo-urns”
tigers2022
Trash cans will have a longer life expectancy… kidding aside that sucks. Live seeing the best talent on the field. Get well soon
Oldschoolandthemets1980
If he is out for a long period, perhaps they talk to yanks for Miguel Anduhar.
joseluish22160
Why?
Kewldood69
Gonna listen to some Ariana Grande right now. I’m thinking “Bang! Bang!”
jjd002
You just admit you listen to pop?
YankeesBleacherCreature
What’s wrong with pop music? With the exception of country, I listen to all genres of music from Beethoven to Ella Fitzgerald to Metallica to Kings of Leon to BIA.
jjd002
Nothing is wrong with it if you are a teenage girl.
YankeesBleacherCreature
Color me a teenage girl in a dad bod then. Have you heard BTS’ new single?
goastros123
I’m not a teenage girl and I love P!nk.
dirkg
Loosely using “very strong season”. Dude has 7 home runs and is leading the league in GDP.
astros_fan_84
I hope he’s not out too long.
Jordan 5
Now they just need altuve and Correa to join him. ASTROS SUCK
goastros123
You like it when players get hurt?
Colt 45
Actually, they don’t – pretty close to best MLB W/L record since beginning of 2017. Perhaps it is you.
tribepride17
Very strong drop-off since 2019. Hmm.. wonder why?
CamFrost
How about Gurriel, Correa, and Altuve?
Colt 45
quoting a bit of wisdom here : “They just want to hate the Astros bc the media told them to.”
jjd002
And in 2019 hit better on the road than at home. What’s your point?
jim stem
More muscle strains doing normal baseball motions. It’s just amazing. What are all these trainers missing?
solaris602
My thoughts exactly. It’s 2021 and sports medicine still hasn’t figured out how to condition and prevent the most basic injuries.
Johnny NewYork
Even though Bregman cost my Yankees 9 championships, I think hes’ a pretty cool dude and I want to hang out with him.
Colt 45
I’m in love with you.
goastros123
He cost them 2 and there is no guarantee they beat the Dodgers and Nationals. Where are the 0ther 7 coming from?
jjd002
I think he’s being facetious.
goastros123
Oh ok.
