The Tigers activated Nomar Mazara from the injured list today, optioning Victor Reyes to Triple-A to create the roster spot, per the team. Mazara returns to the lineup carrying a .237/.275/.395 line from 40 plate appearances prior to his injury. Reyes didn’t fair any better, however, slashing .143/.169/.238 in 65 plate appearances.
Erasmo Ramirez has also been placed on the 10-day injured list with a right pectoralis strain. Ramirez warmed up in the bullpen yesterday, but he ultimately did not enter the game, notes MLB.com’s Jason Beck (via Twitter). In fact, he has not appeared in a game yet this season. For his career, Ramirez owns a 4.31 ERA/4.56 FIP over 655 innings with the Mariners, Rays, Mets and Red Sox.
In his place, Joe Jimenez has been recalled from Triple-A. Jimenez walked seven and allowed five earned runs in just one full innings spread out between two appearances before being optioned to the minors.

Mazara is a nice guy. Met him at a fan fest and he is very kind and genuine. But I have lost hope of his bar every being much above replacement level.

He’s only 23

Nomar is 26

Mazara still has something left in the tank, he’s got power (as we have seen in Texas) but he’s more of a platoon option than a starter for sure.

I honestly forgot that he played for the Tigers.

Joe Jimenez, really?

They cut Farmer yesterday to bring up Ramirez, he’s hurt before throwing a single pitch, and now we’re back to Jimenez, who is not even serviceable in the league…
And, whatever happened to Reyes is a shocker, I thought the guy had it figured out entering this season, but what a disappointment he turned out to be.
The whole organization is a dumpster fire.
bottomofthe9th
That’s because the GM is a dumpster fire
davidkaner
Al Avila has never been close to even a serviceable GM. Most incompetent GM in the league.

Detroit needs Pujols. Pujols needs Detroit.
For Love of the Game
Already have one…Miguel Cabrera.

I know that’s what would make it so perfect. Like a Geritol barnstorming. 2 future HOF er’s chasing history together. The marketing possibilities are endless.
gbs42
I loved Pujols’ time with the Cardinals, but he has no more history left to chase. He’s not getting to 700 home runs.
StudWinfield
But, but, but several posters here on MLBTR have insisted that LA left significant marketing revenue on the table with Pujols’ release. I can only assume the same is true for Miggy. It should be a gold mine of shirt sales and TV revenue just sitting there.

If BOTH THOSE IDIOTS would learn to just pop it into the Al Kaline corner, it would be VERY fun to watch……. They should do it and get a manager……and a hitting coach…and a pitching coach……and of course, a GM…or hire me to be Big Al’s boss……

Truth!

I have an idea. They’re trying to get a team in Vegas. I’d call them the “Las Vegas Legends” and have them be a team that is primarily made up of possible future Hall of Famers. Then, you’d have a team that people would actually travel to go see, especially if they were playing their team. It would be a place for the Pujols’s and Cabrera’s to play.
tiger9
5 years into a so called “rebuild” and the Tigers are unwatchable.
Torture. Thanks Al….
For Love of the Game
Blame Chris Illitch who rewarded Big Al with a contract extension a year early even though he hadn’t accomplished anything.
BobGibsonFan
It is torture… a team that was so close for so long… they could afford to sign top players… they had one of the highest payrolls in the game… future hall of famers… 3 Cy Young winners in the rotation and a future Cy Young winner and now they are fielding a AAAA team.
Pure GARBAGE!!!!
BobGibsonFan
Gets hurt warming up in the bullpen? Good God!!
GarryHarris
I remember the chant: “Go Tigers! Take the Lions with you!”
The Saber-toothed Superfife
But… but….. Al’s such a nice guy. I’m sure of it.

It’s raining and you know who’s fault it is…..? That’s right. It’s Als’ fault.
