The Rockies announced a pair of corresponding roster moves today. They selected the contract of Connor Joe from Triple-A, while right-handed pitcher Jose Mujica was optioned to Triple-A. It’s good to see Joe back in the Majors. The 28-year-old opted out of 2020 after being diagnosed with testicular cancer, writes MLB.com’s Mark Feinsand. The Rockies like Joe as a possibility at first base or left off the bench. Joe was a first round draft pick of the Pirates back in 2014. Mujica will be a long-term rotation possibility for the Rockies, though he came out of the bullpen for both of his appearances this season. Elsewhere in the NL…
- Cubs southpaw Brailyn Marquez has been about six weeks behind in his conditioning after testing positive for COVID-19. The Cubs’ top pitching prospect doesn’t have an official assignment yet, but it’s believed that he’ll soon head to Double-A, per Bruce Levine of 670thescore.com (via Twitter). Marquez doesn’t turn 22 years old until September.
- Both Jazz Chisholm Jr. and Jorge Alfaro hope to begin their rehab assignments next week and return from the injured list by next weekend, per Jordan McPherson of the Miami Herald (via Twitter). Marlins fans eagerly await Chisholm’s return after the infielder posted a 154 wRC+ in 80 plate appearances this season.
- Wander Suero will begin his own rehab assignment with Triple-A Rochester, per Mark Zuckerman of MASNsports.com. The Nationals’ reliever has been out since April 18th with an oblique strain. Stephen Strasburg, meanwhile, will soon pitch his second simulated game since landing on the injured list. Presumably, that means the Nats are still in an evaluation stage, and it might take some time yet before Strasburg can return to the diamond.

Wade Miley’s no-no is in the books. Sean Manaea has one through seven. Two in one night?
Baseballer2021
Mike Brosseau broke up Manaea’s no-no bid with a double in the 8th.

Another dodgers lost in the books too. Lol

The dodgers losing another game is in the books! Lol

The Mets fan that is so scared of the Dodgers he has to post about them losing twice. Lol you got to worry about your team getting on top of their own division first before caring about the rest of the NL because last I checked the Mets are hovering around .500 right with the Dodgers. The only thing is the Dodgers have overcome slow starts multiple times in their string of eight consecutive division titles so I’m not worried about them but the Mets have been the same old Mets of late since they lost that World Series what six years ago now? Hit us back up when you guys can score a run so the best pitcher in baseball doesn’t keep going to waste and can actually get a W.

When we go further than you this year I’ll come back to you.

Mujica didn’t make any appearances “this season”. His two times out of the bullpen were last season.

To paraphrase Mr Cub, Ernie Banks, “ let’s play seven!( innings that is)”

i feel n long run Isan Díaz should be better
but it a long year for all three . .
Mjm117
Diaz gave us hope last night but doubt he’ll end up better that Jazz.
Having said that, it should be Diaz and Jazz handling 2B/SS for the foreseeable future.

Jazz Chisholm is a potential 20/20 player. You can’t disregard that.

Will Connor get more than a cup of Joe in the majors?
bobtillman
Probably. Conner’s not your average Joe.

I know I might be in the minority, but I truly believe the Marlins are the best team in the NL East. Overlooked rotation and position players.

Conner Joe is/was a slap hitter. For some reason, he moved away from that aspect. He started to want to swing for the fences and lost a part of his game. Being a slap hitter, isn’t all that bad
