The best chats!
Always enjoy them.
Luc (Soto 3rd best in the game)
Yankee fan says, “The Astros lose Springer and are still scoring a ton of runs. Anything out there to suggest they are still cheating?” Lol living in the past. Astros live rent free in their heads. The Astros still loaded especially with Yuli hitting well. Also why would the Astros risk stealing signs…..
puhl
All the titles they have, all the hall of farmers, all the statues and all the Stankees’ fans will think about forever is the time the Astros whipped that a$$. LOL. Worth every trash can bang joke!
Astros are good now and we’re better than you then. But keep hearing those cans in your dreams!!!
KCJ
Every fan who still is mentioning the cheating scandal of years ago should be in a trash can themselves. Get over it. You still whining about the Black Sox? How about the Patriots and the overinflated balls and illegal filming?
IronBallsMcGinty
Not so sure the black Sox scandal is a fair comparison.
Furthermore, people have every right to be disappointed and will most likely make comments until all those players are no longer with the Astros. Eventually people will get over it but it wasn’t that long ago.
KCJ
Guess your idea of “not that long ago” and mine are different. Particularly when it’s in every thread, every day, and each moron thinks their unique and cute by poking fun at the same thing for a millionth time. It gets old dude. Real old. And I am not even a fan of the Astros.
Like I said to another commenter a while ago….ask your best friend to tell you a joke. Any joke you choose…even your favorite one. Then have him repeat that same joke 3 times every day, every day, while your discussing subjects that are related or not. Make sure to have him interrupt conversations about other subjects to tell you the joke once in a while, though. Within 6 months you’d want to break his neck, wouldn’t you? That’s where me and a whole lot of other people are with this Astros crap and all you wanna=be funny guys out there. Enough is enough. Move on to a new joke.
IronBallsMcGinty
I get what you’re saying and the jokes do wear thin but that doesn’t change the fact that those players deserve all the ridicule they receive. They collectively cheated in a big way. They clearly didn’t care about the rules or the other teams in the league nor did they seem to show any remorse. They’re only sorry they got caught even though they received no punishment but still won the WS all while making millions of dollars.
Jean Matrac
IronBallsMcGinty:
I agree with much you say, but disagree some too. Yes they cheated, didn’t care about playing fair, and sorry they got caught. But I think the advantage from that cheating is way overblown by fans. It gave them an edge, and maybe that edge made the difference, but I’m skeptical.
There are a lot of pitchers that heavily rely on one pitch. Hitters know what they’re going to see against those pitchers, most pitchers even, and they still make outs. I understand that the trash can banging for curve balls, and I can see the advantage there. But not all pitchers throw the curve, and some that do use it sparingly.
Plus, I don’t see how they could have used their method to cheat on the road. In 2017 they had a much better record on the road, going 53 – 28, versus 48 – 33 at home.
The cheating gave them an edge, and whether that edge was enough to make a difference is debatable. But, the cheating did not change a mediocre team into a WS winner. The sad thing is their title is now tainted, and they might not have needed to cheat to win.
IronBallsMcGinty
I agree with that as well. For me and many others that makes it a bit worse. They were already good and didn’t need to do that. You’re right that system only worked at home (as far as we know) but we’ll never know if they’d win the WS with or without that system.
Either way, fans will say what they want and those players have to take their lumps and move forward.
KCJ
….and yes the Stankees are just loaded with hall of farmers
Luc (Soto 3rd best in the game)
Hope you know I was against the Yankees
KCJ
Yeah and I hope you know how tiring it is to hear about this Astros crap in every tread, every day, for 2+ years straight. If you’re going to be funny using the same old tired joke, they could at least spell check basic things.
MetsFan22
I just came here to say I’m not scared of the dodgers at all. They are very beatable. Good lineup but horrible bullpen and overrated pitching (Kershaw , Buehler) I hope we see them in the playoffs. Should be a Mets win. (Assuming they are healthy) if we keep getting hurt like this we won’t even make it.
Samuel
LOL
I’ll play……
Mets are quite possibly the most overrated team in MLB.
National media needs their clicks from NYC fans, so Yankees and Mets get played up. Mets are one sorry team. Rays stuck it to them this weekend. You want to talk about the Rays injuries?
bravesfan88
The Mets aren’t sorry, they’re a solid team, that’s capable of making a run. However, they still have alot to prove if they’re to be taken seriously.
Right now, some of the Mets bats aren’t doing well, yet some of their pitchers are playing way above their heads. So, when they eventually even out, it’ll be interesting to see how they hold up over the course of a full season..
Even still, the Mets certainly aren’t as good as some people are making them out to be, but they definitely aren’t sorry..The truth lies somewhere in the middle..
The NL East is going to be a fun dog fight this year, especially if the Braves can ever get their bullpen figured out..
MetsFan22
The rays beat the Mets c team. Congrats.
Luc (Soto 3rd best in the game)
I get why you aren’t scared but thats easy to say. If we somehow face them in postseason I wouldn’t be scared at all. I would be confident. And the Rays had so many pitching injuries and a few hitter injuries. So it was kinda fair its just the rays have depth.
1984wasntamanual
The Rays beat the Mets, a C team. FTFY
amk1920
lmao sure, a team throwing Buehler, Kershaw, Bauer and Urias as the top 4 in a playoff series is overrated. Worry about Lindor getting his OPS out of the bassment.
MetsFan22
That’s perfectly fine. The Mets will just go with deGrom Thor cookie stroshow and Walker. With a way better bullpen too…
Luc (Soto 3rd best in the game)
Ummm Thor and Cookie may not even be good coming back from the injuries. I think Cookie will be fine but Thor will be a 4 ERA guy. Stroman and Walker are decent I just wonder if the postseason will get to them
MetsFan22
Thor had a 4 era once in his career and his career era is lower than 4..
1984wasntamanual
He also wasn’t coming back from TJS at any of those points…
If you expect him to come back from TJS mid season and just go right back to being who he was then you’re setting unrealistic expectations.
Luc (Soto 3rd best in the game)
Ik but he wasn’t good the last time he pitched and is a nutjob. I just don’t see him as successful I may be completely wrong
gbs42
MetsFan22 may need to change his handle to IfHealthy. That qualifier shows up in most of his comments. It can lead to a paper championship and a ready-made excuse if they don’t win.
IronBallsMcGinty
Love Marks idea about extra inning base runners.
KCJ
The replay system is such a joke….in fact the umpires in general are a joke. Something needs to be done to break this union and/or the agreement MLB has with it. Can they “lock out” the umpires and get some competent human beings in here please? I don’t know what can actually be done, but something has to. This cast of clowns has made a mockery of the sport on a nightly basis and they have been for years. A lot of these guys aren’t even qualified to umpire high school games. Now it’s getting worse by the day. Enough is enough! Really getting tired of the multitude of obvious ball/strike misses game after game after game….and even worse the ridiculous “verifications” of these instant replays. Bring on the freakin’ robots and hire an unrelated 3rd party to do the instant replays
Samuel
Between the umpires union, the players union, and the front offices micro managing the shifts along with the encouragement of hitting foul balls to get pitchers tired and out of the game, MLB is so far away from letting players going mano on mano and simply competing that it’s no longer even a sport. And that’s not including moving defenders all around the field to positions they cannot play and tipping over one another going after balls because they’re not familiar with their teammates around them who also are in strange positions on the field and none of them know what to do is tough game situations..
I agree with a comment from a gentlemen here about a week ago that MLB has simply turned into entertainment. Everybody vants dare maaaneeee – we even have a website here that specializes in following that.
DarkSide830
how is working a count not going “mano a mano?”
Samuel
Seriously?
How about if tennis allowed the receiving player to swat serves that are in play off to the side indefinitely without losing the point rather than demand that the ball be put in play across the net else the receiver loses the point. The sport would be no fun to play or watch – it would ease to exist. Or how about a boxing match in which each participant danced around and didn’t throw punches at one another.
Last week in a Phillies game they got 4 straight walks before a Phillies player put a ball in play. In between was the catcher going out to talk to the pitcher. It took over 15 minutes. John Kruk in the booth was in disbelief.
Did you play baseball? I did. Had me and my friends known that one could make more money then heads of successful businesses by hitting found balls, we’d have become professional baseball players (actually, one did and he won the Cy Young – he can’t believe the way the game is played today).
DarkSide830
i really don’t get your gripe. what is the hitter to do,not take a walk of balls are thrown? and why arent we spoiling pitches? the goal is to get something to hit. Trea Turner worked a 14 pitch AB the other day. am I anrgy? no, because its good strategy that gets results. this is nothing new. spoiling pitches has and will happened.
KCJ
How do you even “work the count” anymore when you have no idea what might or might not be called a strike?
bigjonliljon
WWF with sticks gloves and balls
bigjonliljon
I agree. Each umpire has his own strike which changes any given game. How about we enforce the original rules of the game and let the hitters know what the strike zone is based on the rule book.
bravesfan88
Will Smith, Chris Martin, Tyler Matzek, AJ Minter, Shane Greene, Jacob Webb, Sean Newcomb, Puke Jackson, and Josh Tomlin..
When healthy, the Braves have nine more than capable arms coming out of the bullpen. Even still, somehow, their bullpen has been pretty dang awful…
Does anyone see any trades or trade targets, for the Braves, that could ultimately bolster their chances at a division title and eventually a NL title opportunity??
Now, with Soroka and d’Arnaud out until likely mid June, that was a huge blow, but their starting pitching has really been coming back on as of late. Smyly has pitched consecutive games of 6IP giving up only 1R, Ynoa has been lights put most of the season, Fried is back healthy and has pitched consecutive solid outtings since coming back, and Ian Anderson has just been a bulldog on the mound all year making opponents look foolish with his excellent change.
All that’s left is to get Morton back on track, and bow with Greene and Martin coming back maybe those two can help stabilize the bullpen. The Braves bats are starting to heat back up, ironically without their MVP candidate in Ronald Acuña Jr., and slowly but surely things are starting to come together.
Maybe the bullpen will arrite once they add two RH pitchers to their LH dominant pen, allowing Minter, Matzek, and Newk more chances to primarily go up against LHB, instead of facing so many RH hitters..Idk, patience is a virtue, but I’m still not sold they have exactly what it takes until they start running on all cylinders as a collective unit..
On the brightside, they’ve been struggling, and they’re only about 3 games out of 1st, with their next series being against the 1st place Mets..So, maybe all could be forgiven if they win the series, and end uo.only 1 game back, even with all their injuries and struggles..
Samuel
Bullpens around MLB are overworked as the aim of just about every team is to have their hitters work counts and hit foul balls to get starting pitchers up to 100 pitchers ASAP to get them out of the game ASAP. There aren’t enough decent relief pitchers to staff 30 teams (and the Commissioner wants to expand…LOL). Guys that should be in AAA are pitching out of bullpens, many coming up and down from AAA literally daily as arms get tired out constantly. Rosters used to carry 10 pitchers, now they carry 13. The solution will be to make the 7 inning doubleheader games standard all year long – because MLB constantly does the wrong thing.
The point of my rant is that the Braves are really no worse off in their bullpen than most MLB teams, and definitely better than most. I watch managers in dugouts throughout MLB literally salivate when they see some stiffs from the opposing team coming in to relieve late in games. Instead of teams trying to beat the good pitchers, the strategy is to tire them out, then beat up on the flunkies that have to come in and pitch.
1984wasntamanual
Am I missing something on Kyle Seager? His 2022 option is 15m-20m depending on escalators. He’s on pace to put up about 3.5 fWAR this year, depending on whether that ends up closer to 15 vs 20, is that really that much of a “poison pill” for 1 year?
KCJ
Sadly, it shouldn’t be. That’s easily the normal going-rate for a guy with that kind of production. But we’re living in a world where a guy like Jedd Gyorko, who is a very solid backup and can play multiple positions, can’t find a job. He make $1 million last year and was forced into retirement. Baseball as we know it just doesn’t exist anymore. Too many guys like Tom Ricketts and Bill DeWitt Jr. “losing tens and even hundreds of millions of dollars” running around. My question is: why don’t these clowns cash in and sell the team for triple the price (or even more) than they paid for it if it’s so miserable to be a baseball owner? Lots of guys lined up to take on that burden…
