Two Marlins regulars are nursing injuries, as Jazz Chisholm has missed four games due to an ankle sprain and Adam Duvall has missed games due to soreness in his left side. Manager Don Mattingly indicated to reporters that both players were being held out largely due to precautionary reasons, noting that “if we weren’t being conservative, I think [Chisholm] probably could have played today.” Chisholm spent just shy of three weeks on the injured list earlier this season after suffering a hamstring strain, and the Marlins are naturally being careful to ensure that their young star isn’t lost for another extended amount of time.
Chisholm is hitting .286/.350/.486 with five home runs and nine stolen bases over 117 PA this season. Duvall hasn’t been performing as well (.213/.257/.425 in 171 plate appearances) at the plate, but the veteran has provided some extra utility in the field by playing respectable defense over 53 innings as a fill-in center fielder. Mattingly described Duvall as already feeling “better” by Saturday, so it’s possible Duvall could be back in the lineup for Sunday’s game with the Red Sox.
More injury updates from around baseball…
- Jorge Soler left today’s 6-5 Royals loss to the Twins after the first inning due to right groin discomfort. An injury would further damper what has already been a rough season for Soler, who is hitting just .178/.257/.314 with four home runs over his first 195 plate appearances. Soler’s last full season in 2019 saw him lead the American League with 48 homers while batting .265/.354/.569 in 679 PA.
- Nationals infielder Luis Garcia will receive an MRI after suffering an on-field hamstring cramp prior to the third inning of the first game of Saturday’s doubleheader with the Brewers. While warming up before the inning, a cramp that had bothered Garcia earlier in the game suddenly forced him to the ground, and he had to be helped off the field. Garcia has spent much of the season at Triple-A, at Washington’s alternate training site, or on the big league taxi squad, and was just called back up to the active roster earlier this week.

At least it’s a good thing that Ozuna is no longer a Marlin.

Ok.

Soler has been nothing short of atrocious and I have seen no evidence of him making any adjustments. Swinging out of his shoes on breaking balls in the dirt and staring at or fouling off fastballs down the middle all while playing a bad right field. At this point a major league contract in free agency is a win for him. No way anyone gives him multiple years unless he just mashes from here on out.
mizzourah87
Yeah if CJ Cron can’t get a major league deal, I don’t see why Soler would.

His wife was arrested (last year) for throwing a dish at his face and it cut him I believe. Obviously idk what happened both times but yeah unfortunate situation

I believe in that situation he was disciplining one of his kids an she disagreed? I don’t know. They clearly have a weird relationship. Maybe it’s all for show. I just posted before that he’s always putting up Instagram photos of her and then and how blessed he is and how much he loves her.
He also admitted he would have been on Jose’s boat unless she said no you have to come home. So he’s also kind of alive thanks to her (or something along those lines).

Yes, @ludafish about the Marcell not going out that night with Jose. Ever since the autopsy report came out with the toxicology report, I have not ignored that Jose called Marcell to hang out that night when the guys going were going to get drunk and high.
I hope Marcell gets help. And if his wife is just as troubled, I hope they both get help for the sake of their kids.
Oldschoolandthemets1980
Let’s not jump to conclusions yet, now dont get me wrong if it involved Marcel striking a women than he deserves everything coming too. However it could have been someone in the family A man, and let’s face it alot of us have been in that situation before lol. So let’s wait for the facts.

The PD released a statement saying they witnessed him assault his wife as they were approaching the scene. Multiple witnesses. Hate to say it, but we won’t see him on a big league field anytime soon, if ever again.

Idk man, Roberto Osuna and Aroldis Chapman did pretty bad things toward their significant others, yet they were still playing after their charges. Osuna would be playing if it weren’t for Tommy John surgery. Maybe Addison Russell was the final straw and teams will give serious consideration to keep around guys who have been involved in some pretty ugly domestic violence cases.
FredMcGriff for the HOF
Chapman got off incredibly light with a 30 game suspension on his domestic violence. Chapman was the first suspended with the new MLB policy. I remember Cashman and his take on the Chapman suspension at the time “This is a very significant penalty in terms of games lost and salary”. Ozuna will probably get what should’ve happened to Chapman which is probably his contract voided and essentially the end of his career. The problem for Ozuna is there are multiple police witnesses. He will be made an example of.
gbs42
Right or wrong, I cannot fathom the MLBPA allowing Ozuna’s contract to be voided. The precedent that would set in terms of yielding power to the league would be a major issue.
Oldschoolandthemets1980
I would hope not, but you never know considering the violations against other players that are still playing.

Duvall has 1.2WAR because he’s playing great defense. Bbref has him at 1dWAR. He’s doing his usual offensive thing. Do nothing for a couple games and then blow up for 2 or 3 and win those games himself. Then back to a week of striking out. But his defense and fear of the power has helped the team.
Everyone loves them some Jazz. We need him back at short ASAP. it’s such a shame BA went down too because now we have to use Isan. And he just doesn’t have it. I have more faith in Brinson becoming a contributing MLB player than him. MiggyRo and BA are out for 3 weeks at least. At full power we can compete. But as the NLEAST has been the injury division we can’t blame that. Everyone is dealing with it. And we just got Marte back.
If only having Marte back with BA, Jazz, Miggy, Aguilar, Alfaro on the infield. Elieser is just about ready. Sixto should be sometime mid June. A September call up of Cabrera and Meyer. But oh well. The rebuild continues. But right now watching Isan is killing me. Especially since most of the season the Marlins were the only East team with a positive run differential. Now it’s evening out. It was fun while it lasted. At least we will get to be pesky spoilers to watch.
bradthebluefish
Shameful about Ozuna. What’s sad that is any punishment likely won’t mean much – given that he’s out with a 6-week injury.

The way Garcia stopped and fell over it looked like he got hit with a freeze ray. Watching it live I thought the guy passed out, never seen someone react to a hammy cramp by doing the mannequin challenge.

An accurate description on Garcia!Iit was bizzare! Hope He is OK!
MarlinsFanBase
I prefer the Marlins taking baby steps with Chisholm. I hope he and Duvall are healthy soon, but not the end of the world if we aren’t contenders this year as we’re still rebuilding and in and incline part of the process.
Johnnymarty95
If the Marlins fall out of the race this year, they have a couple veterans they can trade for younger prospects/MLB ready players. I can see them having another good draft this year and they can add more to the farm by acquiring more young talent through midseason trades. I’m not a Marlins fan, but I’m impressed with how they’ve rebuilt their farm system and team overall.
