The Dodgers have activated right-handed reliever Joe Kelly and placed lefty Scott Alexander on the 10-day injured list (retroactive to May 3) with inflammation in his pitching shoulder, Juan Toribio of MLB.com tweets.
Kelly, who’s in the final season of a three-year, $25MM guarantee, hasn’t pitched at all in 2021 on account of ongoing shoulder problems. Those issues played a role in limiting Kelly to 10 innings last season, and he revealed last week that he underwent surgery in November. When healthy, the hard-throwing 32-year-old has given the Dodgers 61 1/3 innings of 4.11 ERA ball with a 26.5 percent strikeout rate, a 10.5 percent walk rate and a stellar 60.6 percent groundball rate.
The addition of Kelly is a step forward for Los Angeles, but the loss of Alexander represents a step in the wrong direction for the reigning World Series champions. Alexander has been one of the Dodgers’ most effective relievers this year, having recorded a 2.31 ERA in 11 2/3 frames. While Alexander has only totaled five strikeouts, he has offset that by allowing one walk, and the 31-year-old has induced grounders at a 63.2 percent clip.

Paragraph two must be 2021, not 2020.

Dodgers lose tomorrow we win. We both would be 1 game over 500 cey hey. Lol
BeforeMcCourt
Congrats. The Mets are playing equal to the Dodgers ST split squad roster
MetsFan22
You really acting like Mets don’t have injuries just as bad.
Degrom missed 2 starts already. Nimmo 10 day Davis 10day
Syndergaard lugo and carrasco (our 2nd and 3rd best SP and our best RP) haven’t pitched all year. Also Lindor is in a slump that is unrealistic and should end soon.
BeforeMcCourt
Never said the Mets had a perfect year of health
But 6 guys? Take a lap. Our bullpen alone has 7 out atm, not counting Joe Kelly who hasn’t thrown a pitch, or Dustin May who we lost for the year.
Counting those guys & both Alexander& Kelly in the article, there were/are 12 dodgers on the IL. So double the Mets you just listed; with 2, likely 3 to be season ending injuries.
That doesn’t count guys like Taylor, Mookie, Pollock or Lux, who either did not go on the IL because we didn’t have replacements so they rode the bench for 1/2 a week+, or they are already back from IL. Up to 16 different guys and I’m not trying very hard buddy
And you wanna talk slumps? How’s Muncy’s 2 for 42 while all those hitters+Bellinger were out? Or the nearly parallel 7 for 45 Will Smith went thru while hitting 3/4 with muncy? Plus 3 rookies consistently behind them in the lineup who all looked overmatched coming up. Shall I continue?

@McCourt: Yes, please continue, this dodger fan complaining is entertaining, especially today as the ‘greatest team ever’ currently sits in third place. Also, can you remind us again how a shortened season WS ring still counts equally, oh yeah, and how the Astros cheated you out of another ring, too.
fox471 Dave
Yeah sorry about your 10 day guys. We have guys that are missing the entire season.
Longtimecoming
All we (non Dodger fans) have been hearing is that the Dodger have the greatest depth (and they do have great depth) so they are better than everyone else. Now, when depth is required to take the field, the dialogue changes to “but we have so many starters injured, blah, blah, blah.” You can’t have it both ways is all I’m saying – pick a side of the fence and stay there.
Brew’88
Bipeds have fingers and toes but that’s not enough to count all the Padres who have been out recently. Giants too. I’m tired of hearing the Dodger fans whine about the injuries. Stop the excuse game because you’ll lose that too.
BeforeMcCourt
Hahaha longtime you’re such a fool. I truly, honestly Couldn’t give a damn what you think. You block the people you’re afraid to engage. Pathetic. Please, do me the honor
The dodgers fans were never excited for Luke Raley or DJ Peters or Sheldon Neuse or any of the other guys who are 4th and below on depth charts currently getting starts. Those aren’t the dodgers who won in 2020. Same with the bullpen, you and I both likely couldn’t name 2/3 of the recent relievers used by LA. It’s a long year. Enjoy celebrating that a lot of dodgers are injured. You are Brewer are hilarious for having this opinion, after claiming dodger fans were senseless for anything similar. Stay classy SD
It’s a long year. The dodgers are 4-14 over the last two weeks. Should be buried. But they’re 2 games out of 1st. TWO. Why? Well when they were healthy, they started 13-2. Who do I care about? The ST split roster playing right now, or the team in Oct? I’m not worried about SD or SF running away with anything. We should be 10 games back. But they both have dropped the ball! Oh boy, scary!
Bragging about April and May standings is the sign you aren’t used to competing at the end of the year. Enjoy May 7th standings. Your’s, Pad’s and Brewer’s opinions mean nothing to me
Kewldood69
Sadly, Alexander is the Dodgers best reliever right now.
solaris602
It took him long enough to find himself. Hopefully he won’t be out long. I hate to make predictions, but something tells me Kelly will be right back on the IL within 2 weeks.

The lack of walks have certainly been nice, but Kenley has been getting it done this year just as well or better than Alexander. Kenley has more than doubled Alexander’s K rate and has lower numbers across the board, minus the walks+FIP, which is destroyed by his walks. Kenley has been 93-95 more outings than not as well…
trust me, I can’t wait for the posts that have the dodgers optioning guys not just swapping IL spots, but just saying, Kenley has been a fantastic surprise in the last year of his deal
