The Blue Jays have placed infielder Joe Panik on the injured list with a left calf strain, per Scott Mitchell of TSN Sports (via Twitter). Rowdy Tellez will be recalled to take his roster spot.
Panik is in his second season coming off the bench for the Blue Jays. The 30-year-old can play all over the infield, though with a healthy Bo Bichette, Panik’s glovework has been limited mostly to second and third this season. The former All-Star and Gold Glove Award winner owns a .226/.241/.302 triple slash line across 54 plate appearances.
Tellez had a rough start to the season, slashing .183/.222/.267 across 63 plate appearances. If nothing else, Tellez comes back after a short, but effective tune-up in Triple-A. In the first three games of the minor league season, Tellez went 3-for-10 with a pair of doubles, a home run, and three walks against three strikeouts.

Rowdy is back. Yay! Panik is boring, Rowdy is less so.
Le Grande Orangerie
LOL!!!! Typical Blue Jay post. Rowdy Tellez is the second easiest out in baseball, after Janson. Joe Panik is a batting god compared to those guys.

Rowdy has a .767 career OPS, .886 last year, far better than anything Panik has done in a long time. Do you have the memory of a goldfish and can only recall any player’s last 60 ABs?
oldmansteve
No need to Panik, but the Blue Jays are getting Rowdy.

For all those Vladdy playing at third hopefuls, the next night or two might have a few players rotating positions. If it’s late in the game, who knows what may happen? If Cavan has to move to cover another position, and Rowdy pinch hits and there is a double switch, who knows? Stay tuned.

Vladdy playing third??? LOL!!! Vladdy playing third base is like my cat trying to play the trumpet.
Orel Saxhiser
Reality check: Vladdy at age 22 has already accomplished more than you will in your entire life. LOL to that.

He also looked pretty good at third in his one inning or something there. He’s definitely got the arm strength and hands to play there. Range is probably the limiting factor, however.
Murphy NFLD
Yea he has the arm and hands for sure. On the game broadcast a few days ago it listed players hes been faster then this year but the only 2 names i recall are Gurriel and Verdogo. While speed, quickness, agility and recation time are all different things being much faster this year deffanitly helps.
Ive been wondering myself if the defense would be any better with Vlad 3b Gurriel 1st & Biggio in OF, or Biggio and Gurriel switching. Gurriel makes bad reads in the OF but 3b is alot of dives or spears fo balls and its more about instincts and agility plus he started on the IF
Le Grande Orangerie
LOL! Really? What’s he accomplished, finishing high school? I don’t know that, he may not have finished high school, but assuming he has finished high school its not the accomplishment someone like you thinks it is. LOL!!

Neither Panik or Tellez are difference makers at the moment. Yawn.

Espinal should be the back up infielder anyway, the team managed to get better with an injury.
Bart Harley Jarvis
It’s a good clubhouse move replacing panic with rowdy.
MarkoRock68
No big loss, more playing time for Espinal , maybe Rowdy will pick it up after a demotion. Both have more upside then Panik.
