The Rangers have placed first baseman/outfielder Ronald Guzman on the 10-day injured list with a meniscus cartilage tear in his right knee, per a team announcement. In other moves, the team selected outfielder Adolis Garcia’s contract and transferred injured right-hander Matt Bush from the 10-day IL to the 60-day version.
It isn’t known yet whether Guzman will require surgery, but either way, it seems likely he’ll miss a fair amount of time. Guzman suffered the injury Monday during his first career start in left field and had to leave on a cart. It’s the latest tough development for the 26-year-old, who has generally struggled to produce dating back to his 2018 debut. Guzman took 17 trips to the plate this year before suffering the injury and batted just .063/.118/.250.
Garcia, whom the Rangers acquired from the Cardinals in 2019, saw brief major league action over the prior two seasons. He has hit .087/.125/.130 in 24 PA.

Better than the whole season like a lot of us Rangers’ fans were bracing for.

I was hoping to see why Guzman was getting so much playing time. I’m guessing injuries to others, besides his power potential. I’m no ballplayer anymore but someone liked his lengthy swing! Goo Angels!!

The only reason Guzzy was getting “so much playing time” (it really hasn’t been that much), was because of just how well he’s done this off-season. He completely revamped his swing, and it led him to winning the Dominican Winter League MVP and having an insane ST. He looked really, really good though with Nate Lowe it was hard to fit him into the lineup consistently. OF was a new opportunity for him, and alas the first inning he plays out there he gets hurt… Hope he can come back again because I want to see what that new swing can do.

I’m a ranger fan, but JD really needs to take a look at his scouting and medical depts. Why are they Having so much trouble developing (profar, odor, mazara, guzman, even gallo to an extent) and why these kids are spending so much time hurt? Whatever happened to Cole reagan’s and Michael matuella? Had TJ surgery years ago to never be heard from again. And, I’m convinced rangers mismanaged profars shoulder surgery and cost him 2 seasons and his career.

I think with Profar, it was a perfect storm of bad luck. He went from being a #1 prospect, to having a near career-ending shoulder injury, followed by at least 2+ years of additional surgeries and rehab, only to be game ready and find the infield locked-up with Beltre, Andrus, and Odor. He saw time as a utility infielder and started learning outfield on the job; saw sporadic play time, and his stats suffered. The Rangers got 4 prospects and $750K international bonus money. Of those, Eli White is now starting, and Brock Burke tore a labrum, missed 2020, fell out of their top 30…bad luck. Ragans had TJ surgery, but then again, so have AJ Puk, Michael Kopech, et al…it happens. Odor? I think he just turned into a one-trick pony. They used to demote him, and he’d come back born again hard each time; but when they made the fatal mistake of buying out his remaining arbitration years, he went nowhere fast…and stayed there. Sub-Mendoza city, just with 30 HRs and a lot of RBIs, so-so defense. I don’t know if Solak or White or maybe a prospect will fill 2B long term, but it was just time to cut bait on Odor. I feel horrible for Guzman, who I think has Gold Glove 1B potential and has a power upside, but this knee injury is a big bummer, and more bad luck…

Concur. The weakest link in the organization is the people responsible for the Rangers draft – specifically Kipp Fagg. In fairness, I’ve heard/read nothing but great things about him as a person. However, his track record in the draft is abysmal. Horrifically so.
Injuries across the league are astronomical. Likely has something to do with the pandemic and lack of access to medical teams and proper offseason training. Not the case with Guzman as he was playing winter ball in the DR. But it does make you wonder if the Rangers should bring back some of the stretching techniques that Tom House used to utilize with the team. Something is definitely amiss over the past several years.

Rangers have always done good work in international signings but have always drafted horrible. Maybe the last two drafts with college players will show rangers to draft more college players then high schoolers
