The Mets are reinstating third baseman J.D. Davis from the injured list, Tim Healey of Newsday was among those to note (Twitter link). Infielder José Peraza was optioned to the team’s alternate training site in a corresponding move. Additionally, right-hander Franklyn Kilome has cleared waivers and been sent outright to the alternate site.
Davis returns from a hand injury after the minimum amount of time on the shelf. The 27-year-old figures to resume his role as New York’s top option at the hot corner. Peraza’s contract was selected from the alternate site to add infield depth when Davis went on the shelf, but he’ll ultimately head back without having gotten into a game. Peraza will keep his spot on the 40-man roster, though.
Kilome lost his 40-man spot to accommodate the Mets’ addition of Peraza last week. A former top prospect in the Phillies’ system, Kilome has seen his stock tumble quite a bit in recent years. He’ll remain in the New York organization and hope to pitch his way back onto the roster.

The Mets remind me of the Cards before Whitey Herzog became their manager. There’s too many players playing out of position
Freddie Morales
The only guy not playing his main position is Smith. Maybe not everyone has amazing range but they are all playing their main position
EasternLeagueVeteran
I am agreeing with your observation. Dom Smith has had to learn to play the outfield, but everyone else Is playing where they are the most comfortable. And you cannot count Jonathan Villar because he was signed to be a utility man

Nimmo is out of position in CF. Davis, basically a DH, is out of position at third.

Davis is going to be a playing a new position…. bench

How do you define a player playing out of position? Derek Jeter was always a short stop but (especially during the last couple of years) unless it was hit directly near him he would not be able to field it and let it go to the outfield. He even won gold gloves at SS even at the end of his career over the like of Jose Iglesias and other glove first guys that were much better ss. A-rod had to cover a lot more ground at 3b than most because of this. Maybe Jeter should have become a dh instead of ss but no one questioned his position placement at SS.
Compared to other position players statistic wise? Aaron Hick and Nimmo have roughly the same games played in center and their defensive stats are eerily similar yet no one questions Hicks being a centerfielder.
They play a particular position better than others. Then all utility players would be playing out of position. Hell Acuna is an especially good CF but because they have better fielders they moved him to the corner to accommodate for a better lineup. Look at the dodgers, their players play damn near every position throughout the season except short catcher and pitcher..
While i dont disagree that nimmo is a better lf than he is cf. and i think there are a lot of better CF out there, i think he is capable of the position. He is basically like a Jeter where he has a smaller range and with dom in lf having a smaller range as well as the big outfield it make it look even worse especially when there was a defensive whiz like lagaras being your cf for quite some time.

Nimmo’s metrics last year had him as the worst CFr in the league… Davis has multiple obvious problems with hand/footwork and, again, terrible metrics. Not sure what it is you’re not seeing. Jeter was a below average SS and probably belonged at second for much of his career.
Cosmo2
The distinction between “out of position” and simply “bad fielder” is not a clear thing. But generally, SS, 3B and CF are particularly difficult positions that you need to be designed for. A bad CFr is often a capable LFr, and, thus, “out of position”.
MarlinsFanBase
A “bad fielder” is someone who is bad everywhere he plays. An “out of position” guy is someone is someone that plays a position well/solid, but is being played in another position(s) that he doesn’t play well.
Cosmo2
Yea, there ya go. That’s actually pretty clear.
MarlinsFanBase
Yeah, sorry for the doubled-up typo though.

How do we know if we’re muted by someone?
Do we see them, but can’t respond or do we not see them at all?
