The Diamondbacks have placed Ketel Marte on the 10-day injured list with a right hamstring strain, the team announced. Andrew Young has been recalled from the Taxi Squad to take his roster spot.
This is a tough blow for the Diamondbacks, who are off to a 2-4 start this season. Marte is off to an incredible .462/.500/.846 start to the season, already posting 0.7 fWAR in six games. The long-term outlook is as of yet unclear. That said, the initial plan was to have Marte assessed with an MRI tomorrow in Phoenix before making an decision, per MLB.com’s Steve Gilbert (via Twitter). That they went ahead and made the move prior to that evaluation isn’t a great sign.
Young, 26, came to the Diamondbacks from the Cardinals as part of the Paul Goldschmidt deal. He made his Major League debut last season with 34 plate appearances across 12 games. Young, like Marte, can move around the diamond defensively. Tim Locastro is playing centerfield today, where Marte started each of the first six games.

If you’re recalled from the taxi squad, you should have to make the trip to the major league park in a taxi.
Technically correct
Sure, but isn’t it better for marketing if they call up an Uber prospect instead?
Nothing
Hate to see great players get injured. Maybe there’s something I’m not seeing, but it seems baseball players are soft compared to other sports, hockey for example. In the NHL, guys play through injuries without complaint. Don’t see that much in MLB these days.

I don’t ever remember Mickey Mantle or Joe D having oblique issues.
These guys are candy asses.
Those guys weren’t. Nothing a chesterfield and a Rhinegold couldn’t cure!
Nothing
Exactly. Teams try to pamper their players and give them time off every time they have a tummy ache. Guess what, you’re an athlete, your body will be sore! Put some ice on it and get out there! As you said, candy asses.

They didn’t have replacement level players as good as they are today. If Mickey Mantle sits out, they get much worse than if a teams 4th OFer comes in today. The depth is just much better today, meaning players don’t have to play at 60% or 70% anymore. The game is better for it.
Nothing
Did you just say the game is better for having star players sitting out? What kind of flawed logic is that? The players make the team. No blue Jays fan is saying “it’s a shame Springer’s out, but I can’t wait to watch Grichuk!” Or a Padres fan saying “I wish Tatis was healthy, but Kim is so exciting!”. Without star players, the game is more boring, and less attractive to fans.
oldmansteve
The game is better because Grichuk is still a capable option if Springer can sit out.

When did he stop going by Andy?

Was always impressed with young as a cards prospect. He could be the steal of that goldy trade. Cant wait to see him in an everyday lineup
