TODAY: Ray has been officially activated, the Jays announced.
APRIL 11: The Blue Jays are preparing to activate left-hander Robbie Ray from the injured list in advance of their upcoming series against the Yankees, manager Charlie Montoyo tells reporters (including Ben Nicholson-Smith of Sportsnet). He’ll get the start tomorrow evening against New York.
Ray re-signed with Toronto over the offseason after the Jays acquired him in a midseason trade with the Diamondbacks. His 2021 regular season debut was delayed a couple weeks by a bruised elbow he suffered during the spring. With Ray making his return to the rotation, the Jays will bump Tanner Roark to the bullpen for now, per Montoyo.
In other Toronto injury news, star outfielder George Springer is still not nearing a return from his recent quad injury (via Nicholson-Smith). Springer’s debut with the Jays’ was delayed by an oblique strain, and he hurt his quad while rehabbing the original injury. The three-time All-Star has now recovered from the oblique problem, but the leg issue will keep him out of the lineup for a while longer.

I hope Roark can be more effective as a long reliever, but something tells me he’s just finished in the majors. He hasn’t looked good in a long time. Montoya needs to keep him on a very short leash because every single win counts.
jaysfansince1977
He will most likely only see action in games like last night, or if a pitcher is injured during a game
Srechter35
I’d usually be willing to at least entertain the notion that Roark was victimized by a weird 2020 season and small sample thus far in 2021. But anyone who’s actually watched him pitch knows he’s toast as a starter. He has no out pitch and no juice on his fastball. His arsenal currently features a below average heater with a collection of cement mixers. His only chance is to go max effort out of the pen, and focus on spinning his best breaking pitches as hard as he possibly can. More than one career has been resurrected that way, so we’ll see.
crshbng
I couldn’t agree more. His stuff just isn’t there. Hopefully he can give some decent innings out of the pen, but i must admit, im not overly optimistic.
Joeypower
Roark to the ‘pen Roark DFA… eventually
jimmertee
Shifting deck chairs on the titanic.
Dorothy_Mantooth
None of this matters anyways; the Red Sox already have the AL East won!!!
ellisburks
I think you mean they have the World Series won.
JohnTaylor
I think he’ll be fine, soaking up the Tommy Milone innings. Team’s are going to need relievers that can soak up three or four innings in blow out games.
Captain-Judge99
I’m sure the Yankees are licking their chops that Robbie Ray is pitching against them tomorrow night. So glad he’s feeling better.
MarkoRock68
Licking their chops huh. If 2R on 3H over 5 innings is teeing off then the mighty Yanks are going to be making just a whimper all season long which will look good on them..
its_happening
Obviously you didn’t watch the game. Again.
Ray was inconsistent, lacked command and location against the Yankees B lineup. Blame the layoff, Ray was being Ray last night.
Yanks have scoreboard on the Jays. They can gloat for now. Recognize.
MarkoRock68
WildBill being arrogant … again.. Lacking reading comprehension… again. I said nothing about his control rather the fact 3 hits was not teeing off
B team .. were you watching the game. Go look at their 1-6 .
The last part was that your attempt to be hip.. best try again if so.
its_happening
You excluded 7-9. You made my point. Yanks B lineup.
Lighten up. Stop being angry and start watching baseball games rather than sitting behind a desk angrily talking about a game you clearly aren’t watching.
Every Yankee fan here, Wildbill. Jimmer and me are in your little head.
MarkoRock68
Whats wrong little man you get your knickers in a twist when someone disagrees with you. What a joke. You and your alter alias are considered entertainment on here. As one commentor said recently just wait till the clown show rides in.
Captain-Judge99
@MarkoRock68- I guess this will be a tell all who are CY Young Award winner will be this year? Lol. Besides Hicks sat out we were short handed. Get used to the losing guy, your pitching will suck all year.
MarkoRock68
Shorthanded you say- Missing Hicks pales in comparison to missing Hernandez and Springer.
smuzqwpdmx
If Ray can pitch like he did in the spring, the rotation actually looks decent. I hope having fans in the stands can drown out his grunts, though.
jimmertee
Spring training pitching doesn’t mean much.
MarkoRock68
I am curious was 93 the last time you had something positive to say about the Jays.
jimmertee
When there is something positive to say about the Jays I say it. You obvious aren’t reading all my posts. When I say something negative it is not to be negative it is to shed truth on some false statement or or false hope that the writers or commenters have written.
MarkoRock68
So you have the arrogance to assume the writers are wrong and you are right and your view is the truth … gotcha.
jimmertee
Not arrogance, just practice of a scouting gift that I have been given. I am not 100% but perhaps 95% plus. You shouldn’t assume arrogance, it’s rude.
MarkoRock68
You should be working for the Jays if you are that amazing as a scout .
Captain-Judge99
@MarkoRock68- you need to lighten up, loosen up your belt and get a sense of humor. Your Jays are like you, a big joke. Take it easy big fellla!
MarkoRock68
Hey you were throwing shade and trolling I was merely giving it back. Says alot that you cant see that. Thin skinned like many Yanks fans.
Captain-Judge99
@MarkoRock68- no not thinned skinned at all. Your just salty because the Jays suck. Not my fault, but definitely your problem. It doesn’t matter where they play, Dunedin, Buffalo, or even Toronto their not winning anything this season. Get used to losing. Ryu is no ace, trade for Luis Castillo, nothing scary in that rotation at all.
MarkoRock68
Another year – another 200 million – another year without a world series appearance . Rinse and repeat. The agony of being a Yankees fan.
Captain-Judge99
@MarcoRock68- another year of not spending any $ and never competing in a World Series sounds real exciting for a low budget team and for low budget fans. Have fun staring ^ at the Yankees for the next 5 years. Good Luck.
MarkoRock68
You not watching the Yanks getting spanked . What was it you were saying about Ryu.
Captain-Judge99
@MarcoRock68- only you would get juiced over one game. Lol. A blind squirrel(the Jays) find a egg corn once in a while. Don’t get used to it, reality will strike in real quick. Enjoy 3rd place this season.
MarkoRock68
Hey you were the fool who said Ryu was not an ace- he sure made the Yanks look like AAA hitters . News flash after tonight the Season record is 3-2 Jays . 200 million and battling Boston for 3rd by July. 4th will look good on the Yanks. Your #2 starter now has an Era of 7.56 Lmao.. What a rotation.
Captain-Judge99
@MarcoRock68- your the fool that thinks Ryu is an ace. Everyone knows that he is not. Jacob deGrom is an ace. Gerrit Cole is an ace. Ryu is a #3 at best. So do your homework. How many times do the Yankees and Jays play each other 19 times? And your getting juiced over the lst 5 games? It’s early on. Lol. Give it a rest dude your laughable.
MarkoRock68
Ryu is a #3- what are you smoking. He finished 3rd in Cy Young voting the past 2 yrs . You should do your research before making ridiculous comments backed by 0 fact. Funny how you wet your pants claiming Cole is the sure fire Cy Young winner after last nights start. Pot meet kettle.
Captain-Judge99
@MarkoRock- makes all the sense in the world a delusional boy rooting for his delusional team. I’d be pist off to if my team was playing in Dunedin to, and was the 3rd best team in Florida, come to NY and your the 3rd best team in NY. It sucks to suck. An offense with lousy starting pitching wins you nothing. Now your comparing Ryu to Cole? Lol. Wish I could have what your smoking, it’s a lot better then weed. Then again that’s why you continue to root for a such a lousy losing team, think it’s time for your diaper change? Another loser fan, rooting for a loser team. Doesn’t seem healthy.
MarkoRock68
Hate to break it too ya Junior as it seems you have a very fragile ego but the Yanks rotation is as bad if not worse then the Jays and your hitters are laughable thus far. What a team for 200m- a total joke.
You may want to go take some reading comprehension classes as well. An intelligent person would easily see I did not compare Ryu directly to Cole .
Go back to your trolling – I can see it is the only happiness a fanboy like you has. 11 yrs and counting with 0 hope for the future. That must really suck.
Captain-Judge99
MarcoRock68- what were you born in 1968? Lol. We’re the Blue Jays even around then? It must suck to know the Yankees have 27 championships. That must be a hard reality for you to face with all your delusion? Have fun staring ^ at the Yankees and Rays all year, I can’t even say your 2nd best kid, try 3rd best. Buck Martinez and Pat Tabler getting ready to announce you’re game today in Dunedin for your’re minor league team. Good luck. Lol.
MarkoRock68
Taillon 7+ Era, Kluber 7+ Era ……
Mike drop.
its_happening
It’s Mic Drop, not Mike drop.
Roark 15 ERA, Stripling 7+ era.
Before you show teen angst make sure you don’t have holes in your game. You left plenty. Now it’s time to stop talking. You are too angry and cannot think. You and this Yankee fan is like watching two deaf kids in a screaming match. Stop it. Calm down. For once.
Captain-Judge99
@MarcoRock68- Marco drop. Lol. Stop trying to overrate your minor league team. They suck just like you. Stripling and Roark would be in the Yankees bullpen where they belong.
MarkoRock68
Once again you fail to see the intricate differences but then again I should cut you some slack. Following a team that has the highest revenues in the league but 11 yrs and counting of wandering in the wilderness would adversely effect anyones mental stat.
With this being said Roark and Stripling were never meant to be anything more then our #5-6 pitchers whereas Kluber-Taillon were supposedly the Yankee #2 and #3 and all the Yankee doodle dandies were on here pre-season boasting of having 3 Cy Young candidates. Big difference my friend.
MarkoRock68
4-2 baby. hmmm you mention in your comment about drooling. The Jays love playing the Tankies 🙂
Captain-Judge99
@MarkoRock68- tied you up. Nice win for you. Yes, you guys play the Yankees well. Lol. I still gotta take Kluber and Taillon over Ray and Stripling though. I feel are pitching will be be better then yours during the 162 games. Kluber is a late starter anyway, takes him awhile. We’ll see about Taillon. Severino comes back later on in the summer. I’d be shocked if your BlueJays win the AL East. They definitely got a shot at a Wild Card.
MarkoRock68
Been fun heckling each other – at least you can take it 🙂
Funny thing is going into the season I felt that the Yankees staff had lots of injury risk and the Jays staff had performance risk but it seems to be flipped on its head.
Best of luck. ! see ya in the ALCS
Captain-Judge99
@MarkoRock68- true be told, I wouldn’t mind seeing the Jays instead of the Rays in the ALCS. I know your a die hard, just stay that way. It was good you didn’t sign Paxton, thought you’d re-sign Walker though. I truly didn’t see this team starting this well. I find the Jays entertaining to watch, and I like Snyder and Martinez calling the games. If you trade for Luis Castillo or Zac Gallen, I think you will be neck and neck with the Yankees. Best of luck in 2021 and beyond. Yes, nothing wrong with the trash talking. We obviously can handle it. Lol. I am more worried about the Yankees offense right now more then the pitching for some reason. Taillon or Kluber, one of them must come thru. If not it’s curtains. Ttyl.
its_happening
The Robbie Ray grunts are back and will be on full display. Doubt he’ll be stretched too long in his first outing.
Tanner Roark is the example as to why too many Jays fans hoping for a return to old form don’t watch him enough. His stuff isn’t there. Last year his stuff wasn’t there. If you watched you’d know, and you didn’t. Many of you, and some who’ve posted on this thread, felt Roark’s 2020 was just a fluke. It wasn’t.
Can’t blame Atkins for acquiring him but could blame him for the amount of money. But both Roark and Anderson were supposed to be bridges to when the Jays contend so the moves were understandable since they were going for the slow crescendo.
tigerfan1968
George is a fine player but with Covid why sign him to such a long term top dollar contract. Jays are fine in the OF and Davis could be quite good. If you have to spend save it on a SP who would be available at the trade deadline. Semien was expensive but at least not long term. My real venom is for the dozy Raptors President who has done nothing right in two years. OG and Siakam paying way too much and then Lowry turning down a decent PG like Schroeder. Even now he should see if Kyle will take a buyout and save the Raptors a few million. At least he was smart enough to take Gary Trent Jr. I will give him that.
BigNateisComing
There isn’t 1 thing in this rant that even close to accurate, Masi is probably the best GM in the league, he made the Kwahi trade that won a championship, I think he’s earned the benefit of the doubt.
whyhayzee
Talking spooh instead of llabesab? Seems kind of backwards.
tigerfan1968
the Kwahi trade ..a two year old would make that trade… a top ten player in the league for someone for is ranked about 30th… O.G. is a bust cant shoot. , Patrick top dollar and he can’t shoot either . The Powell trade was another gimme.
Captain-Judge99
The Jays and their fans are delusional if they think that a rotation of Ryu, Ray, Matz, Stripling, and Roark is going to win the AL East this season. Lol. If they do the joke will be on them. Toronto, Dunedin, or Buffalo, who wants to play there???
jimmertee
I have been a Jays fan since the Expos left. I am under no delusion, this current Jays rotation is very bad and won’t win any playoff spot.
MarkoRock68
Yank- the Jays must really be in your head . You spend so much time on Jays comments dishing on where the Jays play. Must really suck to watch your team spend 2.2 billion over 11 years and never make it to the WS. The Dodgers are schooling you all on how to be winners.
Now a young talented Jays team on the rise against the high spending injury prone Yankees who are being held together with duct tape.
Troll on laddy troll on .
Captain-Judge99
@MarkoRock68- truthfully I’ll stop teasing you so much, starting to feel sorry for you. I forgot about Tommy Milone and Robbie Ray in your rotation. Now I think you have an excellent chance to win the AL East now. I wish you my best. Not trolling either just mentioning facts. Not worried about the Dodgers. It’s very difficult to win a Championship two years in a row.
MarkoRock68
Oh no need to worry about me, keep dishin just hope ya can take it back lol.
Captain-Judge99
@MarkoRock68- the 3rd best team in Florida. The Blue Jays come to NY their the 3rd best team in NY, face it your a loser rooting for a loser organization. It was hard to break it to you. Hopefully you figured it out by now? Smh
filthyrich
Best team in Florida now sucka!
