TODAY: Santana is being released from hospital today, as reported by multiple reporters (including MLB.com’s Ian Browne). Santana will still have stitches for the next two weeks.
MARCH 15: Recently-signed Red Sox utility man Danny Santana is in the hospital with a foot infection, per Sean McAdam of the Boston Sports Journal (via Twitter). He is currently being treated with antibiotics, and there’s no timetable for his return. Barring any complications, however, it’s reasonable to expect a relatively short layoff for Santana.
Boston signed Santana earlier this month with an eye on adding him to their pool of short-bench candidates capable of playing both the infield and the outfield. It’s now worth wondering if Santana will be able to get ready in time to fully compete for an opening day roster spot. He has only two plate appearances in spring training since suiting up.
Whenever Santana does return, he’ll audition to be a right-handed complement for the bench. Especially with left fielder Franchy Cordero expected to miss the beginning of the season, there will be some playing time to be had in the outfield. That will likely go to Marwin Gonzalez unless Santana makes a very speedy recovery. Boston also has the option of moving Enrique Hernandez to left and giving some additional playing time to Christian Arroyo or another bench bat.
Perfect timing. Tomorrow’s Toesday.
It was good. I enjoyed it
Hosmer, he made a joke. You have no right to scold him. Try to remember, no one likes a buzzkill.
Feet have rights too!
And lefts!
Hosmer that kid in class that kills the vibe. Hopefully Santana stay healthy, was hoping for another good year from him.
You mean the kid that reminds the substitute that there was supposed to be a quiz that day? I can see that.
Hosmer is quite the downer in this thread.
He farted in the elevator.
In 2007 when I return from deployment to Iraq. I had discovered I had a sand fly in my foot. I had to go to the VA and have it removed.
If you were in the 3rd Inf. you served with my nephew. Regardless, awesome.
@#1doddger as a fellow vet (usaf) thanks for your service bro with out you and others on the front lines i couldn’t turn a wrench on a jet.
Shower shoes !!!
Sounds like more than fungus but I tell you I’m shocked I am out of people that go into public showers at the gym without the shower shoes. You get athlete’s foot one time and you’ll never do it again.
Doesn’t that make you faster? Ya know, athletes foot?
(Hosmer, please don’t be mad at me…..)
Scary foot infections will land you in the hospital. Then it’s super powerful antibiotics like Vancomycin. No joke. If you get over it they will teach you about cleaning out the crud between your toes and spraying your feet with 91% alcohol after the shower.
There’s normally an underlying cause such as diabetes. Not everyone needs to use 91% alcohol spray daily. If there’s an issue like that, find another gym because it’s more likely a sanitary issue than personal hygiene.
When I heard he u it s in hosp I wondered if he has diabetes, that’s an illness not treated in hosp, esp with Covid around, unless it was a VERY serious infection.
Sorry phone typos
Good lord Hoz. Relax! He has an infection and getting antibiotics and is expected back in TWO DAYS! It could be as simple as an ingrown toe nail! Let’s not chastise someone for a funny pun that by no means makes light of something that could be deadly. He didn’t make the damn comment knowing it was staph which RIGHT NOW it’s not! Good lord man
“released from hospital” – what is this, Canada? Going to university…
It’s usually British people that say that more often than Canadians I’ve noticed. My wife is from Vancouver and she says “went to college” instead of “went to university.” However she does say “went on holiday” as opposed to “went on vacation.” Lol
Cant tell if admin scrubbed comments or if Hosmer for HOF is still sticking his foot in it.
Wow, this is first time we’ve heard that he needed stitches. I wonder if he just cut his foot and it got infected or if he had an internal infection that they needed to cut his foot open and drain. If it’s the later, that is much worse than I thought it was
It could have easily been an insect bite. I had a brown recluse bite that swelled up like a softball overnight. I was in the hospital for a week on antibiotics after the minor surgery.
