The Yankees have agreed to a minor league deal with free-agent right-hander Kyle Barraclough, Jon Morosi of MLB.com tweets. The contract includes an invitation to major league spring training.
In Barraclough, the Yankees are adding a hard-throwing 30-year-old who overcame control problems to prevent runs at a strong clip as part of the Marlins’ bullpen earlier in his career. Barraclough amassed 163 innings of 2.87 ERA ball from 2015-17, during which he logged a 31.7 percent strikeout rate against a 14.5 percent walk rate and averaged upward of 95 mph on his fastball.
Barraclough’s production declined during the next two seasons after his successful stretch, especially in a 2019 divided between the Nationals and Giants. He could only muster a 5.61 ERA in 33 2/3 innings that year, when his average heater dropped to 93.5 mph and his strikeout percentage hit a career-low 24.4. After the Giants cut ties with him, Barraclough signed a minors deal with the Padres last winter, but he elected free agency before the season started and didn’t catch on elsewhere.
If it doesn’t work out he could open a donut shop.
“Barraclough’s Bear Claws”
I was just reading the headline and thought “I haven’t had a Bear Claw in years” you beat me to it though. I forgot they existed but they are delicious!
Jim Gaffigan where are you
@think it through
That’s right, he did say that about something didn’t he?
In a bit about gyms he saw someones ribs and thought “I haven’t had a McDonalds McRib in ages”
I forgot what Bear Claws tasted like. Kyle needs to open his shop.
I used to take bear claws two at a time and get them lodged-right in this region here!
They taste like almonds and marzipan
Dollars to doughnuts Kyle’s heard that before.
Or a nails salon……”Bare a Claw”
Not one of the relievers I have been hoping for. Seems like this guy might be done, man.
Rugged numbers across the board & declining velo. Doesn’t look good, man.
Good to see Cash still being active & looking for depth/improvements. Just aim a little higher next time, please. Still a slew of good bullpen arms available. Snag a couple of ’em, Cash.
Yeah, he may be toast. Oh well If he sucks they can just cut him loose or leave him for depth in Scranton.
Ducky Buckin Fent You can’t really criticize this move though. It’s a minors deal with an invite to ST. There’s zero risk here, this won’t stop them from adding more bullpen arms. The guys you have in mind might still be aiming higher then this themselves contract wise.
Yeah, for sure @Rocket. Just a depth/dead cat bounce signing. I didn’t mean to sound critical. It is what it is, uh.
I just saw “Yanks” in the headline & my optimism was auto-triggered. & – yeah – the guys I’m hoping for are all going to require a guaranteed deal.
I remember specifically in summer of 2016 that Dodger fans were calling for them to trade Buehler for this guy at the trade deadline. Sometimes the best deals are the ones you don’t make.
NAH! WE’RE OUTTA BARRACLOUGHS!
Hey! You have weasels on your face.
Newman, Pair a Barraclaugh’s pls
That episode has my absolute favorite Kramer line and moment of the entire series, when he says “Here’s to feeling good all the time,” and then chugs the entire beer with a cigarette going in his mouth. I still use that phrase to toast doing a shot or having a drink.
I’ve been known to drink a beer or two.
Then again I’ve been known to do a lotta things.
If you’re stopping at two you’re not doing it right.
I’m hip.
Depends on how many shots you had before hand. More shots you drink the better the beer tastes, so drink shots before every beer!
*I don’t drink and you shouldn’t either
You know, Elaine, you are the Barraclough in the garbage can of my life.
Last time saw him pitch for Nats he came in to face J Turner. Said to my buddy he’s gonna walk Turner and give up slam to Bellinger. Well, he threw a strike to Turner and that ended his Nats tenure.
Is he the guy with the jumping delivery?
I don’t know if anyone else seen today that Grant Jackson passed away today. He played in the show for 18 years and he also pitched in the We Are Family world series for the Pirates in the seventies.
Got the W in Game 7
The only guy on a minor league deal I’m rooting for is Adam Warren. He’s probably the only one with a realistic shot to make the roster. Does anyone know what happened to Rosell Herrera last year he had a great Spring and disappeared?
He signed with the Wei Chuan Dragons of the Chinese Professional Baseball League.
I’m afraid….. if the Yankees develop a really good pitcher at AAA, they will have successfully developed a better complete starting rotation at AAA than MLB (sign, kick rock).
Story and Marquez to the yanks for torres, deivi Garcia, mike king, Miguel andujar, and Esteban florial
