Red Sox “have their outfield picture pretty filled out”? Hardly Mark. They need JBJ or someone equivalent. Maybe you forgot the Benintendi trade.

In all fairness, it isn’t good but it’s pretty filled out. Verdugo, Cordero, Renfroe as the primary 3 with Hernandez, Gonzalez, and Chavis as other options.

Why do people not get that there’s no reason for Cleveland to trade Ramirez unless it’s a huge overpay?

They think their team can easily acquire him

Regarding the lux tax question. The AAV of the contract does not equal the luxury tax hit in a given year.
If a player signs for $1m a year and has $19m in escalators for playing 1 game then the lux tax hit would be the full $20m once he plays that game. The calculation is done at the end of the year.
If a team starts the year above the tax line but moves enough salary to dip below during the season they won’t end up paying the penalty (hard to do the later in the year you get).
The closest I can think of to signing a low cost deal with big escalators is Maeda and other Asian born players to manage some of the uncertainty in performance. That said, the team only saves money against the tax if the player doesn’t hit those escalators.

Is it just me but did the White Sox fall behind Minnesota again by letting them keep Cruz at a fairly cheap contract based on his offensive prowess especially against the. Not surprised though that they didn’t go after Bauer, Springer, Cruz or Ozuna. Three words: miser Jerry Reinsdorf, who must think he can take his billions with him.
