Jorge78…Maybe your day connection? I saw it in timely fashion. Even when on WiFi, I see data lag when I’m in the farther reaches of my wifi.

I always wonder what the participants’ reactions are like when they have one of their leading questions answered like the Ozuna one was.

Kris Bryant isn’t a “swap of undesirable contracts” guy. If he had an undesirable contract he would have been non-tendered.
bravesfan88
Yeah, there are certainly alot worse deals than Bryant’s, and there are easily worse one year deals than his; HOWEVER, AS OF RIGHT NOW, his contract certainly is not desirable..
As things stand currently, Kris Bryant is scheduled to make 19.5 mil for the upcoming season. Last year, Bryant produced a WAR that was less than half of the following players: Jonathan Schoop, Maikel Franco, and Enrique Hernandez. Needless to say, that is not a real good look, and we did not see those guys even remotely sniff 19.5mil this offseason.
Still though, one could easily say that Bryant is just si play coming off a randomly bad season, and that his track record is a heck of alot better, so you can expect him to have a bounceback 2021 season.
If that were the case, then yes, Bryant would definitely be worth $19.5 mil; however, teams are not going to admit as much, and they won’t give in when his current value is at an all-time low.
With that being said, if the Cubs were to throw in about seven to ten or so in with Bryant, then he wouldn’t look nearly as bad. At a 9.5mil to 12.5mil price point, I could actually see the Cubs getting back a pretty decent prospect or two..
Still though, seven to ten million isn’t chump change, and I really think Bryant could reestablish his own value with a solid start to his 2021 season. If that happens, then the Cubs would be able to easily fetch two of a team’s top ten to fifteen prospects without hardly giving up any money at all…

I see less of an issue with the quality of deal and more with the classification of the deal. If they saw it as a bad investment they wanted off their books, they would have just non-tendered him. It’s not like other bad contracts where it’s guaranteed money you’re locked into. The cubs chose to offer that money to him this offseason.
You have to imagine the cubs expect Bryant to be closer to normal than last season so he can either help them win games, or be dealt at the deadline after having re-established value. I imagine their plan is what you note in your final paragraph.

Not even a Reds fan would dream up a trade proposal that bad for Castillo. The Reds would be insane to not take five years of Biggio or Bichette and a top 20 prospect for three years of Castillo and the Jays would be insane to offer that. To claim it would take even another top 50 prospect on top of that is beyond the realm of sanity.

If the Dodgers do not want to break the bank and additionally re-sign Justin Turner, what do you think of the Dodgers trading David Price, Diego Cartaya and Andy Pages for Kris Bryant?
David Price is two years at $16 million per year (the other half of the $32 million per year is paid for by the Red Sox).
Kris Bryant is one year at $19.5 million, so the Dodgers have to include $12.5 million in cash for the money to be even.
Why for the Dodgers: They would still have a rotation of (1) Walker Buehler, (2) Clayton Kershaw, (3) Trevor Bauer, (4) Julio Urias and (5) Dustin May, with Tony Gonsolin as a backup for injuries. They would pencil in Kris Bryant at 3B but probably not extend or re-sign him unless he regains his top form of two years ago. Dustin May is probably already at least as good as David Price. The Dodgers do not need catching prospect Cartaya because they have both Will Smith and Kerbert Ruiz.
Why for the Cubs: They will not compete this year, they would pick up a #5 starting pitcher which they could use but more importantly Diego Cartaya is the Dodgers # 5 prospect and a future solid catcher. Andy Pages is the Dodgers # 13 prospect and a future backup outfielder with Betts and Bellinger locked into the long term.

The Dodgers would be giving up way too much. The argument that they don’t need Price, a catching prospect, and $12.5M so they can give it all up for maybe a good 3B who would leave in a year? Just sign Turner for a lower AAV for 2-3 years.
