The Mets have designated righty Corey Oswalt for assignment, per a team announcement. His roster spot will go to Albert Almora, whose previously reported deal is now official.
Oswalt, 27, has received several MLB opportunities over the past three seasons. All told, he carries a 6.19 ERA with a 16.4% strikeout rate, 7.5% walk rate, and 41.3% groundball rate through 84 1/3 innings of action.
None of those stats jump off the page. Likewise, Oswalt doesn’t throw particularly hard and didn’t produce gaudy peripherals in the minors. That said, he has produced full-season, sub-3.00 ERA efforts at the Double-A and Triple-A levels and could hold appeal elsewhere as a depth arm.
Who goes for Villar? Makeika?
San Diego kid too bad
Corey Edward Oswalt, when he first arrived in Queens they called him “The CEO” then they saw him pitch & called him DOA.
None of that happened
None of those stats jump off the page…maybe give them a push…
No, Pitch. I remember that happening.
This is false information lol
Love how people commenting don’t understand this is satire
Bye. Maybe the marlins will pick you up. Good luck.
He’s no Roy. That’s for sure.
Beat me to it. I loved Roy Oswalt when he was a Philly. I met him once. He was truly down to earth and humble.
We were so spoiled from 2007-2011. Only one championship, but such great teams. Loved Oswalt as well. That was one of the greatest rotations in recent history. Nothing but fond memories of Oswalt’s time in Philly.
Should of DA’d Drew Smith or Daniel Zamora, Oswalt better than both of them
Horrible take. Smith hasn’t been healthy but has much better stuff. Zamora might go next or Tarpley since they are both Loogies.
Do you even know any of the players whose names you’ve mentioned there?
They’ll go soon enough…
Corey is about as garbage as those 2
No relation to Roy, apparently. Is Oswalt the most unusual surname to have 2 unrelated players in MLB? I’ve never heard of that name apart from those two.
Patton Oswalt?
Lee Harvey
Oswald. Close
I mean there’s Paul and Roger Clemens, you’d nearly think they’re related but they aren’t.
Imagine being named Corey
If Major League Baseball was smart, they would have an annual day honoring names like Corey, Jody, and Madison. All boys with a girl’s first name get in for half-price. They should also pay tribute to Cory Snyder for breaking MLB’s Cory Barrier in 1986.
Corey/Cory is much more predominantly used as a boy’s name.
In the 80s, Corey was a hugely popular boys names.
Like the two coreys from Lost Boys and Goonies
You, good sir, should be a Marketing Director!
Finally! Don’t let the door hit you on the way out.
So which team will be claiming him. Since every Mets scrub pitcher who gets DFA always gets claimed
Here I was, thinking Corey Oswalt, Chris Flexen, and Walker Lockett were all the same person.
#themoreyouknow
Were they ever all rocked in the same game at once?
That actually may have happened. I remember one of them couldn’t even get one out in a start.
Don’t forget Drew Gagnon!
@Cey Hey: I couldn’t find a game where more than 1 of them appeared. The plot thickens!
Seattle will claim him.
This is the best move the Mets have made all off-season.
@Cey Hey You, good sir, should be a Marketing Director!
finnaly he was awful for the mets
I’m glad we’re purging on all those scrub pitchers that could guarantee that no lead was safe!
This looks like a Pirates sign. Go get ‘em
Here comes Jake Arrieta to the rescue!
This has Orioles written all over it. We seem to claim pitchers like this thinking there is something there and they still end up sucking
