The Tigers announced that they have outrighted catcher Eric Haase, who cleared waivers after the team designated him for assignment last month.
Haase is coming off his first season with Detroit, which acquired him from AL Central rival Cleveland last January. However, he only took 19 plate appearances and collected three hits (all singles) during his 2020 Detroit debut.
Last year’s offensive struggles weren’t anything new for Haase, who has posted an ugly .122/.170/.184 line with one home run across 53 PA since he first made it to the majors in 2018. To his credit, the 28-year-old does own a far more impressive .232/.302/.479 mark with 49 HRs over 886 trips to the plate in Triple-A.
Would it be last month or last year. I like last year since it makes it sound like a epicly long dfa limbo
Haase his time to make a good impression come to an end
He never got a real chance! LOL! 19 AB’s?! Seriously?! Who else is better??? Greiner?? Rogers?? Please!
how did it take that long?
The days between christmas and new year don’t count toward the DFA period
Looking at the Tigers’ current situation behind the plate, unless he’s traded, he’ll probably be up at some point.
Suzuki, Flowers, Ramos.. we’ll keep the lights on.
Good, now another space on the roster for a free agent.
Actually no. He was DFA’d to make room for Urena. The roster remains at 40.
Actually he was DFA’d to make room for Jose Urena. Troy Stokes Jr. was DFA’d for Grossman.
I corrected myself as I noticed my error seconds after I hit the post comment button.
Does this make him a Haase-been?
“To his credit, the 28-year-old does own a far more impressive .232/.302/.479 mark with 49 HRs over 886 trips to the plate in Triple-A.”
Yea, well unfortunately for Eric this ain’t AAA
And those arent even impressive for AAA lol
49 homers in 886 PAs is fairly impressive; especially for a catcher. That’s roughly one and a half seasons, or 30+ HR per year.
Obviously, it must be HR or nothing for him.
The challenge for some players in playing for their hometown team is they just let themselves go, and that looks to be the case with Haase after the season he had. Hopefully he signs with a team as far away from Michigan as possible to avoid those pitfalls and challenges.
It does not say he opted for Free Agency, simply that he was taken off the 40. He is still with the Tigers.
he wasnt that good in Cleveland either
Who is Sugano going to sign with? That’s the news we are all waiting for!
Not the Tigers, so take that talk elsewhere.
HUGE week for Detroit
I had Semien and Joc going to Detroit in the contest, probably not Joc now, but I don’t think the Tigers are done yet.
AA stated he was seeking a C, a 1B or 3B a Corner OF, a SP and bullpen help. So far, its C Dustin Garneau, OF Robbie Grossman, SP Jose Urena and RP Ian Krol. Don’t get your hopes up.
Garneau and Krol are minor league signings with invitations to spring training.
Hope’s for contest are not high, Twins fan, but I thought Detroit might look to add some veterans with Zimmerman off the books.
I think the Tigers won’t get too serious with the type free agents you listed until 2024 when Miguel Cabrera and his $32M/year is gone. That seems to coincide with the target for the farm to develop MLB caliber players.
I am kinda of surprised that the Orioles or the Pirates didn’t not pick Hasse up. So I am guessing he can’t frame either besides not being able to hit.
And those arent even impressive for AAA lol
The slugging is
I officially challenge Al Avila to a beer chugging contest.
He needs to prove he is really GM material!
So the kid Haase has 19 PA’s as a Tiger and merely a handful elsewhere…Are we going to talk about how Greiner and Rogers couldn’t bat their weight with far more AB’s and games behind the dish in the bigs?? Haase deserves far more than a late season call up and 19 AB’s to throw him away. Sadly, this is typical Tiger fans trashing on their own players without a clue on how player development works.
