The Rockies and right-hander Antonio Senzatela have avoided arbitration with a $3MM agreement, Robert Murray of FanSided tweets. MLBTR projected Senzatela would make anywhere from $2.2MM to $4.9MM in arbitration.
The 25-year-old Senzatela was an oft-utilized member of the Rockies’ pitching staff for the fourth straight season in 2020, which has been his best campaign to date. Senzatela finished second on the Rockies in starts (12) and innings (73 1/3), paced their starters in ERA (3.44), and notched impressive walk and groundball percentages of 5.9 and 50.8, respectively. However, despite averaging upward of 94 mph on his fastball, Senzatela posted a meager 13.5 percent strikeout rate and did not perform especially well by Statcast’s standards.
The Rockies will be able to control Senzatela through 2023, as he’ll also be eligible for arbitration in each of the next two offseasons.

Like Jon Gray my mans bout to be shelled after a solid year.

I heard this might not be true. I’m extremely close (wink wink) with someone in the Rox front office.

Anytime they need someone to go on a coffee run at the bank, the manager would senzatela.

That’s cheap for a coffee gopher these days

That is one of the best play on words I have seen in awhile.

That is genius

Senza’s a pretty solid pitcher since he figured out he needs to throw off-speed sometimes. Rockies for a bad team have a more than adequate rotation and some depth.

Not a big Senzatela guy and anyone that invests in him for fantasy purposes this season will wish they hadn’t. Senzatela inexplicably earned a 2.8 WAR in 2020 with a season of a 41/18 K/BB in 73 1/3 IP, 71 HA, and a 3.44/1.21 ERA/WHIP. I have a bad feeling about this deal for the Rockies. To me, he’s a worse version of a guy like Martin Perez, who’s been stealing money from big league teams for the past 3 seasons. I’m not a fatalist, mind you, and I would honestly hope that Senzatela proves me wrong.

For a young guy to post good numbers in CO for only $3m…. he is a keeper up there. Not a Rox fan, but this guy looks much better than John Gray and for $3m less than Gray. Nearly every team would take these stats for a #4 or 5 and for only $3m a year.

Bennintendi & prospect for Jon Gray. Do the Rox need a LH OF who loves his hair more than the game?

I know it’s cliche to say “anyone” could hit at Coors, but in all honesty Beni would thrive there I think. Probably could compile a 70 double season, if he remembered how to hit baseballs.

I don’t think Beninennintendeni has any real value. If he doesn’t have the wheels he previously did he’s sub replacement level.
I guess Boston will be able to take a salary dump by getting some lotto ticket back for him. That seems to be what’s important to them.

This is the greatest signing in the history of the Rockies.
