angel fan, fletcher is going to be a gold glover and an all star. only the dumbest f/o would trade him.
DTDATL
He’s a good position player. Castillo is a very, very good pitcher with potential to be great and he’s really young. The Angels would be absolutely stupid not to include him a package for Castillo.
Vizionaire
angels would have to make a subsequent move to acquire a dang good second baseman. angels have an opportunity to acquire a starting pitcher that is better or similar to castillo. rather hold onto fletcher and detmers.
Gwynning
Not here to speak on the Angel fanbase’s behalf but I’d package the 2-bagger for Castillo and sign Kiké or Wong. Wong will be more expensive but maybe within their payroll parameters. I’d much rather have the TOR arm.
cjb1125
As an angel fan I’ll speak for myself: Wong + Castillo would produce as much as Fletcher+Bauer but at a fraction of the cost. I love Fletch, but would do that trade in an instant.
Fans getting too attached to their own players without looking at bigger picture. Angels are tight in their “budget,” so these are the type of trade offs necessary to make them a complete team.
Because in the scenario above its actually Fletcher+Bauer or Castillo+Wong+15M in payroll space (or more).
Gwynning
Then sign Hand or Richards and keep the change. Just depends if you think they need the RP or SP help still. Savvy moves but it cost Fletch+.

@cjb, I really liked that trade proposal. With that extra payroll space, I’d sign Tanaka. He’s not an ace, but he’s consistently solid and a proven playoff performer and could probably be had for about that amount. A front four of Castillo, Tanaka, Bundy, and Quintana is better than the Angels have had in a long while. With both the A’s and Astros taking a step back, maybe the Angels could finally get Trout another playoff game.
MikeD26
Odorizzi a better option than Tanaka.
cjb1125
I agree. Angels can’t afford to take on another health risky player. Tanaka hasn’t had his ucl year flare up, but with the angels luck…not worth the risk. Until last year Odorizzi has been very healthy. He’s not an ace but would be a solid pitcher. Angels need solid pitchers more than anything.
cjb1125
Man, with a little risk (prospect wise or money wise) this was an easy offseason to revamp your pitching staff. And the Padres have taken advantage of that. No one else has yet. I don’t know if it’ll be possible to wrestle Marquez, Grey or Castillo away from their teams, but this was the year to trade some prospects for proven pitching. Especially when offense is not a problem for your team.
DarkSide830
yeah. great on both sides of the ball, cheap, and controllable. no way he’s traded.
Rangers29
Should the Rangers sign Taijuan Walker to a 3 for 24 deal? He’d fill a current void in our rotation, and it would allow us to build up all three of Dunning, Cody, and Walker’s innings in 21′ – in preparation for 22′. Get them built up to full capacity along with the starting pitching additions next off-season, and I think we could have a decent staff. I’m eyeing Dunning, Cody, and Walker to fill out the 3,4,5 or the 2,3,4 spots of the rotation in 22′. Keeping it cheap as well. Thoughts?
BobSacamano
Injuries concern me when going 3 years. I’d say no more than 2 years/$18m.
jorge78
That sounds good but maybe 2 years with an
option…..
Rangers29
Yeah, it does. So 2 years 18 mil with a club option for a 3rd year worth 10 mil? Good deal imo.
Gwynning
2 with an option is likely but I’m a believer that Taijuan is healthy and about to take it up a notch. I’d do 3 @ 24 with an option for the same AAV. Make it a MO if he needs the sugar on top. Would be a good signing for Texas imo.

Blue Jays get German Marquez
Rockies get Jordan Groshans, Rowdy Tellez and Gabriel Monero or Alejandro Kirk
This would get the Jays a really good pitcher who needs out of Colorado while also clearing out a bat at 1B/DH. The Rockies get a highly touted prospect plus a young slugger in Tellez who would mash in Coors while also getting a much needed young catcher. Thoughts?
Technically correct
Could be fun. Go Tellez on the mountains!
its_happening
Add Arenado to the deal, have the Rockies eat about $4-mil per year over the final 5 years of the contract ($20-mil). Jays throw in Roark and Grichuk. Take out Tellez and leave Kirk in the trade, Moreno stays.
How does that look?
mlb1225
I could see the Blue Jays trying to pry away Arenado, but idk if the Rockies would be willing to take on both Grichuk and Roark.
its_happening
Which is why I suggested the payouts for Arenado start after Roark’s deal is done in 2021. There has to be a balance of salary in some capacity. As for Grichuk, two things he brings to Colorado: power and being RH. Rockies lack RH outfield bats. His power would make him a legit 40 homer per year candidate in that park.
Perhaps to sweeten the deal, Jays take Ian Desmond.
Rangers29
Hmm…Marquez has MASSIVE home v road splits that have prohibited him in Colorado, and he’s already a good pitcher… As for the return, I’d say it’s a little much, but maybe the Jays would bite at it just because of how dominate Marquez is/could be. This is a hard one, but I do think it could happen.
Hudson6
Marquez’s numbers look very similar to Joe Musgrove’s. Musgrove also had a lot more helium this year. I wouldn’t expect the return for Marquez to be much more than the Pirates got. In fact I would expect it to be less.
BobSacamano
Tigs should consider trading Turnbull.. I would imagine they would receive a similar package compared to the Musgrove deal.
Rangers29
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH!!!! no.
BobSacamano
Really? That far off.
I mean when considering team control/salary and production they’re pretty similar to me. Maybe, it’s just because I’m a DET fan…
Rangers29
Sadly, yes. I could do a deep dive into Musgrove’s stats, but I don’t feel in the mood to right now. Turnbull has just had one good stint in the majors, and it was that short 2020 season where he was merely decent. Musgrove increased his strikeout rate to tremendous heights in 2020 along with solid performances before this season as well. Musgrove is a safer bet than Turnbull, and he also got a haul back. A big haul.
BobSacamano
IMO, I focus more on whip as far as SP’s go.. where as RP’s I’m looking more at k’s. I honestly don’t know why, lol I just do
I definitely see your point though
mlb1225
People who think the Musgrove return was light only think top 100 prospects are the only good prospects.
Rangers29
It doesn’t paint a clear picture by just looking at one stat. You gotta look at as many as you can to see if somebody is good or not.
BobSacamano
Honestly, I was very impressed with what the Pirates got back for Bell.
But, I thought the Musgrove deal was fair for them at the very least. .
BobSacamano
I focus on the outlook of the contract too though. 2 additional years of team control, while in the player’s prime is huge IMO.
its_happening
Not sure why Bob’s idea is outlandish. He’s not far off the mark on this.
mlb1225
I think the frame work of the Musgrove deal could work in a Turnbull trade, but I don’t think they get back someone like Hudson Head. Head would have went much earlier in the draft if he wasn’t commited to playing quaterback in high school. Scouts didn’t get a full look at him and many think he has 5-tool potential.
Musgrove has just had much better perphrials and better ERA estimators than Turnbull. He also has a better outlook, if you ask me, based on how he pitched in 2020. He change up his pitch repitoier throwing his curveball more often and getting way more swings and misses, albiet at the cost of his walk rate.
phantomofdb
So the twins might sign Bauer or maybe odorizzi, or maybe no one.
lol why even pick that question to answer. You covered the gambit of front end starter, mid rotation starter, stand Pat
joseluish22160
no news from Yoenis Céspedes? does he still play baseball?
LordD99
Regarding the question about why the LeMahieu and Kluber contracts aren’t final, the Yankees have done this before. Weeks can pass. The reason why is a packed 40-man roster, so they’ll delay the final physical until they make a move. Cashman is likely trying to trade two of the players on the 40-man for a non-40 man player. Or, he might try to attach a real prospect to an Adam Ottivino trade to clear some salary space, while opening up spots for LeMahieu and Kluber.
