The Dodgers are seeking a right-handed-hitting infielder, and free-agent third baseman Justin Turner is their No. 1 choice, according to Jon Heyman of MLB Network. While the team has shown interest in fellow righty-hitting infielder Marcus Semien, Heyman notes it may be difficult for the team to sign both players. Turner spent 2014-20 as a Dodger and has been one of the majors’ top hitters during his Los Angeles tenure. The 36-year-old is reportedly seeking a four-year contract, however, and it’s tough to envision the Dodgers or anyone else saying yes to that.
- The Twins have expressed interest in re-signing utility player Marwin Gonzalez, Mark Feinsand and Do-Hyoung Park of MLB.com report. The switch-hitting Gonzalez spent the first several years of his career in Houston, where he was particularly productive during its World Series-winning season in 2017, but has seen his numbers tumble since then. The Twins signed Gonzalez to a two-year, $21MM guarantee before 2019, but he slumped to a .248/.311/.387 line with 20 home runs in 662 plate appearances over the life of that contract. Gonzalez did play every defensive position but catcher and center field as a Twin, though, and that versatility is surely among the reasons they could re-sign the 31-year-old.
- Enrique Hernandez, another free-agent utilityman, received “pretty strong” interest from the Mets before they fired general manager Jared Porter on Tuesday, Heyman relays. It isn’t clear whether the Mets are still in on Hernandez now that Porter is out of the organization. Hernandez, 29, lined up all over the diamond with the Dodgers from 2014-20, but his offensive production has lacked over the past couple seasons. He slashed just .230/.270/.410 with five home runs in 148 plate appearances last year.
- The Tigers have interest in free-agent catcher Jason Castro, Jon Morosi of MLB.com tweets. As Morosi notes, Castro played under new Tigers skipper A.J. Hinch for two seasons when he was the Astros’ manager. The 33-year-old Castro would give the Tigers a credible veteran at catcher, where Grayson Greiner and Jake Rogers – who have struggled in the majors – are the only 40-man options on the roster right now. Castro, who divided last season between the Angels and Padres, looked to be nearing a reunion with Houston late last month, but things have gone silent on that front in recent weeks.
- The Red Sox “were ready to move on” two-time AL Cy Young-winning righty Corey Kluber before he agreed to a one-year, $11MM deal with the archrival Yankees last week, but they might have wanted to structure his contract differently, Alex Speier of the Boston Globe reports. With the Red Sox unlikely to contend in 2021, Speier suggests their preference may have been to sign Kluber to a one-year pact with an option. Kluber is a Massachusetts resident, but with New York more likely to push for a World Series in 2021, he found the Yankees to be a more appealing pick than the Red Sox.
- Twenty-four teams attended the showcase for free-agent righties Anibal Sanchez and Julio Teheran on Tuesday, per Heyman, who adds that both hurlers could sign in the near future. While the 36-year-old Sanchez and Teheran, 29, have accomplished plenty in the majors, they’re looking for contracts at a less-than-ideal time after performing poorly in 2020. Sanchez could only muster a 6.62 ERA in 53 innings with the Nationals, while Teheran put up an even more disastrous 10.05 mark over 31 1/3 frames as an Angel.

It’s so funny to see the Yankees overpay on Kluber.
GASoxFan
Let’s wait and see what the final results are before claiming it was an overpay
ctguy
It’s funnier that he didn’t want to play for the Sox
nomarforever
I don’t remember seeing anything saying he didn’t want to play for the Sox. I don’t even remember seeing that the Sox made him a formal offer. Seems like a typical narrative for someone accepting a Yankees deal.
JoeBrady
I don’t remember seeing anything saying he didn’t want to play for the Sox.

He didn’t say anything.
The RS didn’t say anything.
But haters gotta hate.
TeddyBallgameYazJimEd
He was only looking to sign a 1 year pillow contract.
The RS wanted more of a commitment. 1yr and an option.
You didn’t seem to comprehend why he chose NY.
luckyh
It’s a lottery ticket. One worth trying out.
Rangers29
Didn’t Matt Harvey get about that much money with the Angels? I doubt Kluber’s an overpay.
HalosHeavenJJ
Yes. Harvey got that much from the Angels to serve up insanely long home runs.
Ducky Buckin Fent
C’mon man, @bobsnoot –
That’s the best you can come up with? It’s not on topic & it’s the first comment. This was your time to shine!
Not post some totally lame HOTTAKE!, bro.
Here.
Let me help. You can use these for future templates & you won’t be so dullsville.
– Why didn’t the Yankees sign Sanchez or Teheran instead? Bet they’ll pitch more than one inning lol.
– HAH! Yanks are putting together the best rotation of 2018!
– red sox were smart to not overpay for Kluber like the stupid Yankees did!
How about a two-fer, @bobsnoot (careful these are hard)
– a guy who threw one inning is going to the team that makes an ER room look like a school play. you can’t make this stuff up!
I hope you find these examples helpful for next time. Help us Yankee fans out with something that’s not mind numbingly over done.
Thanks, bob!
ruckus727
What do you think he’s worth? What would not be an overpay? $7M? $8M? You think the Yankees care about that that extra few million dollars? They’d rather get his signature to paper ASAP and not risk losing him to another contender for a measly couple million.
Murphy NFLD
I dont think its an over pay, Robbie Ray and Quintana got 8, Kluber is worth more then them even if he only has 140 ings IMO. Granted Quintana stays health and consistent so thats worth something to, even tho its a 4 ERA
ctyank7
I don’t mind the 11 million maximum payout. I’m more surprised that it wasn’t struck as a lower base with easily obtainable incentives.
psarg
Cole Hamels to ATL was 1/$18M, so I would disagree. Yes, there’s injury issues, but you’re getting a 2x Cy Young winner only a few years removed from a very good stretch. $11M is a good gamble for the Yankees
SalaryCapMyth
This just comes off as sour grapes.
driftcat28 2
Bob’s been tossing and turning over the fact that his team didn’t sign lol
GASoxFan
“Were ready to move on”…. meaning, we are just going to say after the fact we mightve done something but hadn’t taken steps to do anything, just like the rest of the offseason.
Convenient idea to attempt to save face for inactivity and ineptness. Fails equally as bad as the moves bloom didn’t make.
tigers_fan_inatl
4 WS in 16 years… y’all are doing ok.
GASoxFan
You know, I always thought it a shame ilitch didn’t get to see his tigers win it all. The one thing you can’t say is that he didn’t pump the resources in to try.
That’s what I personally find upsetting about the bloom regime. Henry has the money. They decided in fall 2019 to reset the cbt. OK, except they fed a BS line that it wasn’t their primary goal and they wanted to compete.
Well, OK, the 2020 abomination season is over, bloom didn’t replace price, and he didn’t shore up the pen. Most of the core, sans betts swapped for verdugo either remains or was a FA with exclusive negotiating window.
Once again, most of the pieces that won in 2018 are there and COULD at least TRY to do something.
Nope. And not only will they not compete, they won’t give a hometown hero named Lester a swansong to throw fans a bone while we watch another last place (or near it) offseason and impending 2021 finish.
Bloom apologists as I like to call them said after the 2019 offseason to wait after cbt reset. Then this year they said it was early, wait until players signed. Now they say wait until 2022 or 2023.
Meanwhile, there’s over a dozen other teams that wish they had Boston current core to build around and shore up.
Cap & Crunch
From what I gather is Bostonians dont accept being told they are going into a mini-rebuild – Im guessing it just becomes an all out bloodbath in the local media ….. *but thats just a guess
I mean, from there you cant fault Bloom for not telling the truth if its not going to be digested by the fans in a reasonable fashion….so your setting yourself up for the lame duck “Dog ate my HW” lines
Boston is doing the right thing tho imo, I certainly wouldnt want my FO to be pressured into moves by local media/fans.
The rotation is bare, the farm needs a makeover, the pens scary, and they have a lot of hitters going in the wrong direction/unstable. As long as the purse opens back up after the next 2 yrs Id be behind what Blooms doing 100% if I was a Bos fan
GASoxFan
Cap – how can you be OK with him riding out and running down control on assets while not turning them into anything?
OK, if you ARE doing a mini rebuild the first order of business is identify which guys will still be around when you return to contention, and which ones won’t.
If they won’t be there, decide if you want them. If you want them around try to extend them. If you either don’t want them, or cannot extend them, TRADE THEM.
Guys like JBJ, eRod, Vazquez were or now are absolutely in this category. Eating money off eovaldi’s deal after last seasons performance put him in this category. Borderline pieces are Benny (who should be optioned down), verdugo (who has one year left by the time you return to contention), and Devers who is an enigma.
That’s the thing. It started as a cbt reset, became a retool, and now is a minirebuild. But bloom isn’t making moves, he seems paralyzed unless it’s claiming a has-been or never-was.
Cap & Crunch
I think it was a mini rebuild the day they decided to dish Mookie-
Whatever gets said in the papers in-between is probably just hot air
I think they do have a plan
My plan would start with A, B, and C trading Sale…….hopefully he can be showcased before the deadline this year or at least pitch semi well late to bolster his offseason value. I think he waives his NTC to the Newport Beach Angels of OCLA and many other spots as well
I like the idea of Sale for JUpton + prospects
JoeBrady
Cap – how can you be OK with him riding out and running down control on assets while not turning them into anything?
==========================================================
He’s been there for a year, and had to trade Betts & Price.
Then he sold off what he could.
Your assertion that he is riding out anything, is obviously wrong.
GASoxFan
Joe – you recently guaranteed us that red sox payroll would be 209,999,999.99 this season.
You also said to wait and see, nobody signed yet, bloom was going to make meaningful additions for 2021 because there was plenty of time.
How’s that looking?
Bloom was in charge 2019 offseason, 2020 season, and now 2020 offseason. It’s pretty clear where this one is headed.
He has payroll free to claim the likes of foltynewicz during the season, and hand in the offseason, for no compensation. He didn’t, and those are just 2 examples that would help glaring deficiencies on the roster.
Meanwhile, as he doesn’t try to build a contender for this season, he IS burning control over assets and running down the time the team has guys locked up for. 2020 lost a year, and its clear the only thing the 2021 Sox will contend for is the #1 pick in the 2022 draft.
JoeBrady
You also said to wait and see, nobody signed yet,
=============================================
I said that yesterday.
Bloom didn’t sign anyone in the last 24 hours.
And you think that is meaningful? When I said that he would spent $209M, that meant by opening day. Not today.
Bruin1012
GA Sox fan I can’t talk for other Red Sox fans but I can talk for me and I said that Bloom has until the start the start of 2022 season before I’m going to give any judgement.
My take on Bloom so far is very simple. He had a very solid trade deadline in 2020 he traded guys that had no future for potential assets. That is all that he has really needed to do so far. We have to remember Boston lost there two best pitchers after the free agent signing period last year. He thought he was going to have the best two pitchers on the staff in Sale and Erod. How much better would the team of been with those two leading the charge. You have to remember most of the guys that Bloom signed he thought he would have Sale and Erod fronting the rotation. The guys he signed were meant for depth mostly. Let me tell you most teams that lost there two best starters would struggle as well.
Fast forward to this off season this is a poor free agent offseason and not a time you want to be committing money long term. Sure there are a few guys with upside that you could sign on a short term deal but the reality is this is not the offseason to be “jumping in”. I don’t think the Red Sox should be doing a lot during this offseason and I said that a while ago. Honestly I expect them to sign a few guys and probably take the payroll around 200 million but now is not the time to go for it. So far Bloom is playing it right in my opinion. I know it’s not sexy maybe he should of done what it takes to sign Kluber but it sounds like he knew the Red Sox wouldn’t really compete for the World Series this year but by wanting an option tells me he thinks they could in 2022.
I will say this if In 2022 they haven’t jumped into free agency and filled some holes and put a substantially better product on the field then I’ll be first in line to jump on Bloom and more importantly ownership. I think a lot of Boston fans think that all should players should want to play for Boston but that isn’t always the case there are some that don’t want to or in Klubers case see a team that is just better equipped to go the playoffs and win it all then Boston and signed with them.
I think Blooms grade is undecided at this point but with major marks for his quality work at the trade deadline. Please don’t bring up the Mookie trade against Bloom because we all know or at least semi-intelligent fans should know that Mookie was an ownership decision and not Bloom’s. Give the guy a chance let’s not be so quick to judge and that’s not being a Bloom apologist it’s just a fact really difficult to judge a GM after a year and half.
JoeBrady
Thank you for your balanced and unbiased analysis.
One of the things I like to point out, for those willing to listen, is that 18-18 over the last 36 games, which was two games better than the NYY. Everything is a small sample size in 2020, but the SSS has to cut both ways.
And the 18-18 was accomplished with essentially nothing from JDM, Benni, Sale & ERod.
Bruin1012
Yes Joe I agree this team is much better as is then what they showed last year. The Red Sox will be better this year by having a normal year. That unbalanced schedule they played was brutal. The Red Sox were something like 3-14 against Tampa and the Yanks. It will be much better this year.
Rsox
The wording sounds more like they were ready to pass on him rather than sign him as the article suggests
kingken67
I disagree. If the wording were “ready to move on FROM” it would mean they were taking a pass. “Ready to move on” means ready to make an offer. Further the other reasoning, wanting at least an option on next season when they will be in much better shape to contend than this year with their ace likely out for the first half of the season, makes perfect sense. All having Kluber for just this year does is have them finish more in the middle of the pack and still miss the playoffs. If you’re gonna miss anyway miss by a lot and get a better draft slot.
Bruin1012
Honestly if we’re Kluber who would sign with the Yankees who could be a World Series contender or the Red Sox a long shot contender at best in 2021. If, as the article says, that Boston wanted an option that tells me they look at 2022 as a much better opportunity to compete.
HalosHeavenJJ

Glad to see Hernandez leaving the Dodgers and uniform #14 which should have been retired years ago. Eight Dodger numbers have been retired seven are in the H of F. The one who is not in the Hall is Junior Gilliam. No way his number should have been retired before Gil Hodges.

i dont know why any team wouldn’t attend SP showcases save say the Dodgers. just about any team in the league should be interested in a cheap backend SP upgrade at the right price.

Teams like my Nats wont because they have a filled rotation. It depends on what available, for example a LHRP for the Nats

Using phrases like “I mean” or “just saying” is an attempt to soften your opinion to not offend in hopes that is more socially acceptable. It is seeking social validation which is an effeminate trait.

It definitely can be a useful communication tool. Doesn’t change the fact that it is an effeminate one though.

Well then, another long overdue hat tip to our Women; on an historical day for them as well
Ducky Buckin Fent
Why does it trigger you though, Steve?
Cosmo2
Steve, I wouldn’t say that. Using qualifying phrases to begin thoughts is how people naturally discuss vocally. I see it as simply a method of writing as one speaks.
oldmansteve
In a feminized society, you are correct.
Rangers29
You can take the saying “I mean” several different ways – as it is used for several different purposes – but I did find an excerpt talking about how it is feminine (and stereotypicaly feminine at that). Here is the link: dictionary.com/e/slang/i-mean/
Here it talks about how ‘I mean” was the go to filler phrase of the air-headed white girls of the 1990’s. An overly dramatic “I mean” was used religiously during that time as their version of the “OMG” craze we have now. It was just considered a phrase that air-headed girls added to their 5 word vocabulary back then to get their simple points across.
Today I’d say it is used differently, and in Darkside’s instance, it was. The “I means” of today carry a less dramatic undertone than they did in the 90’s when they gained their feminine mantra. You’ll hear people of all sexes say “I mean” just as sentence filler to not make their dialogue feel rushed.
Lastly, “I mean” wasn’t even created to be a feminine saying in the first place. It was in the late 1800’s that it began to be used as a bi-sexual dialogue filler though it’s popularity came in the 90’s with the over dramatic upheaval of the saying.
Take this as you may, but all I know is that I just wrote 3 whole paragraphs over if “I mean” makes you sound like a girly girl lmao.
JoeBrady
I wouldn’t call it air-headed. As far as I know, verbal tics can happen to anyone. I’ve heard some smart people insert ‘like’ or ‘you know’ numerous times into a sentence.
That said, I have no idea why anyone would bother referring to ‘I mean’ as effeminate thing.
Ducky Buckin Fent
It’s just lolzmets trolling instead of pursuing getting a BJ & a hobby – both of which he seems to really, really need.

If the Yankees were going to sign a pitcher for one year at that price options were limited. Tanaka wasn’t going to take only 11 Million. Tell me a better option for the price of one year. I definitely didn’t want Happ back again.

Red Sox no longer “adrift”….”sunk” is a better description.
bobtillman
I love Kiki too, but the reality is you can get that type of offensive production from some AAA guy, who’ll play all over the field and wash the GM’s car and date the GM’s ugly daughter (or son) for @$600,000.
And it’s not like Kiki is some type of super fielder….Great personality, but basically a waste of money.
BlueSkies_LA
He can play seven positions, and play them all well. You can get that from some AAA guy only in your dreams.
Larry David's Joe Pepitone Jersey
I think the personality is part of the selling point though. I agree that he’s not a great player statistically, but he seems like a good fit for the Mets in terms of attitude, and certainly in terms of versatility.
I’d still consider him an upgrade to the current bench too.
WarrenSpahn
Kiki has had pretty good offensive production when he’s had a chance to play regularly. My guess is he could put up some numbers if given a chance to play everyday which is not going to happen with the Doyers…
BlueSkies_LA
He already plays almost every day.

I still find it hard to believe Avila didn’t pick up Grullon off of waivers.. in addition, not doubling SFG’s offer to Casali.
Albeit, at least they’re in talks with Castro (and looking to move on from Greiner), I certainly wouldn’t mind Flowers either.
stymeedone
Castro is at least left handed, and would provide some veteran experience. Unfortunately, I can still see Greiner being the backup while Rogers gets some needed minor league time at Toledo. Signing a veteran catcher should not be considered a luxury by Avila. Flowers, or even bringing back Romine should be considered too.
BobSacamano
I just don’t get it. How does one give opportunity after opportunity to Grayson, non-tender McCann (when his worst season has been better than any Greiner season). I can justify giving Kade Scivicque or Haase more chances.. but, Greiner? Ehh
Cap & Crunch
Makes sense Bos would want the +1
Makes sense Kluber does Not
Im betting another couple teams ran into that same problem of wanting the +1 as well
JoeBrady
It continues to surprise me that something so obvious motivates so much discussion. The day the NYY signed, I thought it was a problem that they didn’t get an option year. This is a classic 1+1 situation. In fact, I’d bet that some teams offered more than the NYY, but insisted on an option year.
And Kluber probably took the best one-year offer. If he is good the entire year, he will do better being a FA agent than accepting a second $11M. If he does badly, the option is only worth the buy-out, and he won’t get a new contract.
Why do much ado about something so obvious?
Cap & Crunch
Yea I want the +1 if Im inking him to double digit AAV 2021 for sure. His agent did well tho you must say
ratedrdude
The Redsox need to get over Kluber because we also need bullpen help badly.. So they need to focus on Jeffress, Hand & Colomé to 7th 8th & 9th inning setup anyway you want too.. The Redsox also must sign Marcell Ozuna indefinitely & Joc Pederson a level down to must.. Trade Benintendi with JD Martinez to the Padres for one of their many outstanding starting pitchers & the Boston Red Sox are back in the hunt in 2021 !!!
AL34
You are dreaming my friend! We needed starting pitching, relief help, a second baseman, get Pedroia to retire, and a closer at the end of the season. It is now January 20 and we need starting pitching, relief help, a second baseman, Pedroia to retire, and a closer. We have done nothing since October. Season is over before it started! Welcome to the small market Tampa Bay Red Sox.

you pretty much nailed it
JoeBrady
Welcome to the small market Tampa Bay Red Sox.
======================================================
We might have a small market, but we might still be the #2 payroll in BB.
Randy Red Sox
NO WAY the Padres trade a top pitching prospect for Benintendi and JDM. JDM is worthless in a trade as it will only be a salary dump for the Sox but you KNOW Bloom is trying to deal him. Sox will probably eat some of his $$ and get a lower ranked prospect and people will deem Bloom a GENIUS !!
JoeBrady
He won’t trade JDM. There is a better chance of JDM reverting to 2019 than there is of him trading him without eating about $12M per.
YankeesBleacherCreature
I’ll bite. Why would the Padres trade any of their recently-acquired pitchers where they had given up some very good prospects for? Wouldn’t it make more sense for them to just sign Ozuna if there is room for him?
JoeBrady
Ozuna is likely a bad signing. Before last year, he had a .784 career OPS. There is not much of a market for aging .784 DHs.
GASoxFan
Ozuna also made some poor decisions that singlehandedly allowed the LAD off the hook and into the WS. Sure, you can point to other guys who didn’t come through, and plenty of them, BUT, when throwing around premium billing and big contracts you should be a higher standard.
JoeBrady
I have no idea why anyone would think he is good for the RS. Thought I do expect a lot of moaning when we don’t sign him. He had a good season in 2017, and a good season in 2020, although obviously a short season. In his other 5 seasons, all were with an OPS of .800 or less. IMO, someone like Springer, who hits better and plays CF, seems like twice the player.
vtadave
.860 the last four years and he’s still just 30. Got a few good years left I’d think.

Typical Bloom, Day late and a dollar short. Kirby Yates signed so he is off the board. Question is, Is Bloom going to do anything?

Some perspective for those thinking that Bloom is doing things the right way.
The Sox have the MOST EXPENSIVE tickets in baseball:
statista.com/statistics/193673/average-ticket-pric…
Food, drinks, souvenirs are incredibly expensive.
The only cheap tickets are the ones sold to students in April, May & September (when the weather is usually poor)
The Sox make an incredible amount of money with their TV network, NESN, and, as some have mentioned, John Henry’s investment is 10 fold over his purchase price.
If you want to charge the highest prices in baseball (by 65% over the 4th place team), then you need to spend $ on the roster to be competitive and keep fan interest.
Their largest signing over the last two years? Martin Perez on a 1 year deal with an option.
And they traded one of the three best players in the game for a decent outfielder, an infielder prospect and a catcher who won’t play for them.
When the Sox decide to not spend (again), are they going to give money back to season ticket holders? Reduce ticket cost? Drop the concession prices? No, they are not.
Team management said that 2020 needed to happen to re-set the CBT.
They have no excuse for being cheap in 2021.
JoeBrady
The Sox have the MOST EXPENSIVE tickets in baseball:
==========================================================
It’s a combination of being extremely well-run, having a very small venue, creating a favorable supply/demand curve, and being one the highest spending teams in baseball.
surefirewinners
OK, then.
If they are going to spend $5 MM on Perez, why not spend $11-$12 MM on Kluber or $15-$16 MM on Morton or $8 MM on Ray or $9-$10 MM on Quintana?
All signed for one year deals and are much better pitchers than Perez.
The Sox were cheap last offseason and have been cheap this offseason.
Sam Kennedy (Red Sox President and CEO) said that the Sox were embarrassing in 2020 and “we will be very aggressive this offseason in rebuilding the pitching staff, which is the obvious, most glaring need. That work has begun and it will continue this entire offseason”
radio.com/weei/sports/red-sox/red-sox-president-sa…
Kennedy lied. The Sox have spent a total of $5.2 MM on players not on their horrible roster from 2020. That is it.
Bloom is cheap, because that is what he knows, and Sox ownership is letting it happen.
JoeBrady
1-We didn’t sign Morton because Morton wanted to play closer to home.
2-We didn’t spend $8M on Ray possibly because Perez was much better than Ray?
3-Maybe we didn’t spend $12M on Kluber because he was hurt for most of the last two seasons?
IRT to Bloom being cheap, I can only repeat this over and over, but with no guarantee the haters will understand it. Bloom does create the budget. Bloom spends the budget. If Henry demands that he spends $300M to buy a WS, then Bloom spends $300M. If Henry says to spend $100M because he needs a new yacht, then Bloom spends only $100M.
Do you seriously not understand how this works?

Cheap Cheap Cheap with Bloom doing a “Rube Goldberg” patch work job in picking up garbage snd throwing it against a wall snd seeing if anything sticks. We are now the B Market Tampa Bay Red Sox. My friends they have done nothing this offseason so do not spend the money going to see a mediocre product. Players see this and will leave and option out. Where is all the money they were going to use when Mookie Betts was traded. Players saw that and know what they are dealing with

In 2019, despite the poor season, Boston STILL registered the 8th best attendance in MLB per game at 35,994 on avg. Thats is on par with where they usually end up. This was also with an average ticket price of $59.32, a roughly $3 increase on 2018.
Whats all that mean? Excluding NESN, concessions, merchandising, parking, endorsements/ad revenue, etc, and ignoring mlb national revenue disbursements and the loss of funds from revenue sharing, ticket sales would’ve handed Boston $173 million alone in 2019.
I think it’s fair to have expectations base upon that when bloom isn’t doing much of anything, like a deer caught in the headlights.

How much will Turner actually get and for how many years? I can’t imagine going more than 2. Are the Jays in on JT?

I think the Twins need to get a much better defensive utility tandem. González was an average defender except at 2B and Adrianza’s defense slipped the last two years.

It is really no surprise that Teheran and Anibal have been working out together, and had their showcase together. The two quickly built a very solid bond when Abibal joined the Braves, and Sanchez was also instrumental in helping Julio out in what turned out to be his most recent successful, productive season..

Teheran seems like an A’s reclamation project.

Unpopular opinion, but I’d take Teheran back on the Braves on a cheap deal, preferably a minor league deal. After how our rotation just fell apart last year, I’m inclined to overload that position with people. He’s 29, he’s solid enough of a pitcher… someone is gonna take a flyer on him. I’m gonna guess the Angels, Pirates, Marlins, White Sox, Orioles, or Red Sox take him… even the nationals wouldn’t shock me to take a chance on him. Each team with much different plans and needs (like White Sox don’t need him)… but this is just a guess.

For years, I thought Teheran was one of the most overrated players in BB. Now, he’s dropped so far and so quickly, he might be underrated. While 2020 was a horrible year, I think the unusual nature of the season doesn’t out-weigh the fact that he always comes in with a 4.00 ERA. In the 7 seasons prior to 2020, he averaged 32 starts, 191 IPs, with a 3.64 ERA. To me, he has the makings of a perfectly adequate #4, that might take a cheap one-year deal to re-establish himself.

Take out the overseas series a few years ago and Hernandez’ bat has been horrible. Yes, he gives excellent coverage all around with his glove as an occasional starter and double switches late in games, but don’t expect anything from his bat as a starter. He’s best served as the 26th man on a contender.
BlueSkies_LA
According to OPS+ his offensive output has been almost exactly league average. I realize that defensive versatility is hugely underrated skill by many fans because it doesn’t come with a number attached, but ask any manager whether it’s a thing or not, and he will tell you how much it helps in filling out a lineup card. Hernandez was far more than the 26th man on a World Series winner. He played in every single postseason game last year, and not for nothing.

Teherán makes a lot of sense for the Reds.

Why must we see an article for every guy that the Mets just look at? Most of them have not/are not signing with the Mets. It’s like the Wilpons are still running the team trying to get the headlines, especially with the owner on Twitter all the time.
It’s like a fat guy announcing to the world every pretty girl he’d like to hook up with.
