The Dodgers and shortstop Corey Seager have avoided arbitration, Jon Heyman of MLB Network reports. Seager, a client of the Boras Corporation, is set to earn a $13.75MM salary in 2021.
Still just 26, Seager has already earned several honors in his career, including National League Rookie of the Year in 2016, NLCS MVP and World Series MVP in 2020, and two All-Star nods. Even before his playoff tear last fall, it was a banner season for Seager, who batted .307/.358/.585 (151 wRC+) with 15 home runs in 232 plate appearances.
The big-spending Dodgers could certainly extend Seager sometime soon, but as of now, he’s in line to be one of the most coveted players on next winter’s free-agent market. Seager could be part of a ridiculously deep shortstop class, as Francisco Lindor, Trevor Story, Carlos Correa and Javier Baez are also due to become available.

Has anyone heard the Phillies offered Realmuto a 5-year $110 million contract? I just read it on Twitter. Breaking news I guess. I am surprised there is no article on it for this site considering how high stature Realmuto is. I am also surprised MLBTR hasn’t reported that the Atlanta Braves avoided arbitration with both Max Fried and A.J. Minter. Fried got $3.5 million and Minter got $1.3 million. That’s old news I found out several hours ago but still hasn’t been reported on this site. Either way, the big news is: The Philadelphia Phillies have officially offered J.T. Realmuto a 5 year $110 million contract!
Simodine
They reported fried about 4 hours ago.
BovineCrab
Ahhh. You’re right. I didn’t expand the article. I am surprised they just got a mention when several other players got their own articles. Fried and Minter were both great pitchers last season. They aren’t average players by any stretch. Still… Where is the article about the Realmuto extension offer? That is huge and it is hours old. It should be up by now.

2 words. Extend. Corey.
BovineCrab
This is one of the many articles discussing the 5-year $100+ million contract the Phillies offered J.T. Realmuto today:

For a catcher like Realmuto that is a reasonable contract. I definitely know that Realmuto wants more and I don’t blame him. Although, I will more comfortable giving him 110 million. Probably, Realmuto wants a contract of at least of 150-170 million.
BovineCrab
That’s not going to happen. I think that opportunity evaporated as soon as the Mets signed McCann and are no longer bidding against other teams for Realmuto’s services.

I am more than sure he would be much sought after upon reaching free agency. But I wonder if he does not extend with Dodgers which team would he go to ?
BlueSkies_LA
I hate to think of him going anywhere but already they are playing chicken with him going to free agency.
angelsfan4life
He is a Scott Boris client. He has already said, he is not signing an extension.
BlueSkies_LA
Got any linkage? I’ve looked and can’t find him saying anything remotely like that. It would be kind of dumb for any player to say that.
GoLandCrabs
There are so many SS free agents next year. If he leaves there will be options. But I really hope Seager stays.
iml12
That is just an insane amount of ss talent heading to free agency at the same time.
vtadave
A lot of it probably won’t though, as extensions will be signed. Free agent classes always seem great the offseason (and even in-season) before.
giantsphan12
Hopefully the Giants can snag one of those SS monsters in FA next year. I doubt that Lindor or Seager will be FAs (they will likely sign extensions) and frankly,
I’m not a fan of Correa’s personality. All of a sudden that
group gets smaller. I’d be happy with Baez or Story tho.

You guys have an arbitration post quota?

I can’t believe Bellinger is going to make more than Seager this season. Seager is the 2nd best player on the team behind Mookie IMO. What a deal for LA to get him this cheaply in his last year of arbitration. He should be able to double this salary in AAV come next year if he can stay healthy.
corrosive23
His health could be the reason for the lower than Bellinger number. He has had TJ surgery once already.
theodore glass
Don’t worry Seager isn’t a pitcher he’s not supposed to get a second in the future.
titurriria
I’m a huge fan of Seager and agree with others that he is their second best player. If push comes to shove, I’d choose him over Belly and trade Belly if that’s what it took to keep most of the band together.
hoff38
Plus he had hip surgery. He started slow but Seager was awesome in playoffs. With Janson’s and Joe Kelly’s money coming off plus Kershaw will surely make less after his deal expires they may try to keep both Belly and Seager.
theodore glass
What about Buehler?
Aussie_dodger
I really hope we can resign Cody and Corey.
Has anyone heard if Andrew Friedman has commented on plans for 3rd base?
I think I heard it mentioned that JT was offered 2 years but is choosing to see what’s available to him in the market.
Does Edwin Rios become the next Muncy or Taylor? I love Edwin Rios’s swing.
Blank Frank
Corey Seager, 2021 MVP.
Dixon Miaz
Corey Seager will be the giants SS in 2022
Ya'll a bunch of salty crybabies
lol!
Blank Frank
Not a crazy idea. Giants may be swimming in cash next season and Zaidi has a history with Corey. Add in that Seager is a Boris client and Giants may make a ridiculous offer and get him.
