The Diamondbacks have claimed right-hander Humberto Castellanos off waivers from the Astros, Chandler Rome of the Houston Chronicle was among those to report. The Astros designated Castellanos for assignment last Friday.
Castellanos, 22, made his major league debut last season with 10 2/3 innings of eight-run ball, striking out 12 batters and issuing five walks in the process. While his production in Houston wasn’t particularly impressive, Castellanos has done a nice job at the lower levels, including during his first taste of Triple-A action in 2019. Castellanos owns a 2.92 ERA with 205 strikeouts against 46 walks in 216 minor league innings.

Who was the other lower level Astro they claimed a while back? The pitcher…. What’s his name?
Lets Go DBacks
Armenteros. But they immediately tried to put him through waivers again and he was claimed by an other team.

Ever since we claimed Wil Harris and turned him into an All-Star, Arizona has been trying to get our prospects and harvest the Brent Strom magic out of them or something.

As a diehard Dbacks fan. Its rough. But Hazen does wonders with what he has. Look at Keury Mella last year. Found a guy with 8 era and he pitched great. Same for Clay Bucholtz. No one expected Marte to be this good. He has an eye for talent. Problem is he can’t spend money. If he makes one mistake on a big move their messed up for years. its tough being a fan

Buchholtz is a product of inconsistency because if injury. Not because of lack of talent or lack of able to put it all together for more than a month

This is a really good claim for D-Backs. Look at his minor league stats, and he’s only 22 years old. I think that minor league stats can tell you everything you need to know about a player. If they can do well in the minors, who’s to say they cant do well in the majors?

have a feeling he will be a pretty good pick up for bullpen dept/4-5th starter roll. Low risk option with some good potential. Sad to see him go, but needed to be done for the roster

I’d be pretty comfortable with Hazen’s talent assessments; he’s right more than wrong. Castellanos is 22, has 2 option years left, and put up some decent numbers in leagues that often he was age-appropriate for.
Hard to imagine why a team like the Pirates let him pass through. Spare me their roster is full…..they finished with the worst record in MLB last year. What exactly are they protecting?

The pirates just added an obscene amount of prospect the last month. There is only so much space to go around.
