Could the Angels pull Musgrove, Marquez without giving up Marsh?

Probably on Musgrove. Marquez in theory should be about to get Marsh+, but the Rockies FO stinks so who knows

and i agree that giving up Adell for Musgrove would be a lot, but take Marsh out of the equation and you make such a deal harder.

Angels can have Brandon Marah. Rockies. Got a triple threat in Randy Marsh. Owner/operator of Tegrity Farms, Lorde, and only an 1 and half from Denver and Balakay Street.

The only way that the Angels get Marquez from the Rockies without giving up Adell or Marsh, would be A: make Fletcher the headliner in the. Or B: take on one of the Rockies bad contracts like Desmond.

the better question is who finishes 2nd in the NL East. the Braves proved that even with quite a bit going wrong they are still the team to beat.

Robo umps will create a market for catcher’s gloves that are capable of magnetically attracting baseballs into the strike zone by the tiniest of margins. Teams will impregnate balls with tiny amounts of metal while gloves will have powerful magnets instead of padding. It’s only a matter of time. Batters will be forced to swing at pitches on the edges of strike zones improving their ability to hit such pitches and it will all balance out and result in quicker games which will attract more fans and make everyone more money. Ta da. Fixed it.

The 2018 World Series doesn’t make up for the damage Dombrowski did to Boston. He destroyed their farm system and payroll situation…..which cost them Mookie Betts. But yeah a title about to be 3 years old makes it all worth it. Any sensible Red Sox fan wishes they had someone else running the show. Someone who would have put them in position to keep Mookie and take their chances at eventually winning a title with their solid core.

They did win a title. That’s the whole point. Winning a title.

The whole premise sounds crazy. Winning a WS is the whole point. You’d rather not win for a chance to MAYBE compete longer?? You’re over estimating the damge DD did. He did exactly what the owner wanted him to do: spent to win now. It worked.

Yes? Its called the Dodgers model. They have a chance to win every year because they aren’t incompetent. I’m over estimating the damage? The Boston Red Sox had to let their best player since Ted Williams go. Thats not how things are supposed to work in Boston. But sure keep fawning over a title in 2018 while having zero future.

if what the Dodgers do is so simple to replicate then why are they the only ones that are able to do it?

The “Dodgers model” barely works for the Dodgers. 8 straight division titles has yielded one championship and that came in a horrendously forgettable short season.

When looking back on the great Braves run of the 90’s/early 00’s which do you think people would prefer the 16 straight division titles that yielded one championship or spending a bit more even at the expense of prospects to give the team a better chance at actually winning championships instead of just division titles?

The Red Sox MUST sign Archie Bradley.. Kevin Pillar & Marcell Ozuna.. Trade JD Martinez & Andrew Benintendi for some sort of pitching

Why sign Ozuna and then trade Martinez? Isn’t Martinez a better version of Ozuna?

Martinez has little value thanks to his contract and you would be selling very low on Benintendi after his terrible season. Neither is bringing back any sort of pitching unless its low level minor league lotto tickets

I was the one who asked if I could be wrong for doubting them going the Cespedes route. I know he won’t make his debut until at least late 2021, more likely 2022. I was a bit disappointed he didn’t answer the bit about me being proven wrong a few years from now. Still, unless Cespedes is at least a near all-star, Springer would provide more value, even on his higher contract. Springer is more likely to put them over the top, too.

At the end of the day, all the writers here have their favorite team, so it stands to reason they have teams they don’t like or think are over-hyped. So, I hear you on the responses, but another way to look at it is at least those questions were answered to a certain degree. A few teams weren’t even mentioned anywhere in the chat.

I just realized the reason the Yankees only offered DJLM $18.75M a season is that with the projected arbitration salaries and the salary commitments already on the books, it leaves them enough cap space- er…. budget space before they cross the luxury tax threshold… to sign Bauer or sign a couple of guys for the same total amount of money Bauer would cost and still be under the $210M cap/threshold by $250k.

They will have to go higher to get DJLM.

Not much higher though, I think they get him at 19.5 for 5 with the 5th year a team option and buy out

It will probably take a 5 year deal for any team to sign him, but that’s too many years in my opinion. 3 years is just right.

I agree. I think a 3 year/$58M deal would be perfect and fair and why not start it super low and pump it up year over year as fans come back after vaccinations become more commonly distributed:

          2021: $12M
          2022: $23M
          2023: $23M

          Ain’t gonna happen, though.

He would ideally like a bunch of people to offer 5/$125m and end up at 5/$130m or get someone to bite the bullet and offer 4 years/$130m or something, I think. Can’t blame the guy. He’s hitting for power. He’s hitting for average. He’s a plus defender who can be slotted in at most positions. A lot of guys who put up his numbers for even just a couple of seasons get massive contracts, short or long term, usually well above $20M per season, nowadays closer to $30M+ per season.

I get why he wants the deal he wants. It’s pretty crazy the Yankees truly can’t afford it, but it is what it is and pretty much no other team can afford it either right now.

I think it’s a bit unfair to DJLM in terms of free agent classes that he went on the market this off season of all off seasons, coming off the last two years of excellence, considering he also lost out on about $7.6M this year due to the truncated schedule and reduced payroll capacities and that’s not gonna change much next season…. but we’re all suffering and this is the way the cookie crumbles.

In a perfect world, where the Yankees had a ton of money to spend and the baseball economy was normal, I think a 3 year deal could get done, but it’d be 3 years/$90M w/ a $10M buyout on a $34M option or something. Oh well…

Lindor and Carrasco for Aaron judge. As a Yankees fan, love judge when healthy but can’t stay on the field. Judge needs to play 300 games nest two years if Yankees want to extend him. He’ll be 31 as a free agent give Yankees chance to extend lindor. Maybe throw in another pitching prospect cle way

You’re overvaluing Judge if you think he brings back Lindor AND Carrasco. The hulking slugger that can’t stay on the field is not worth two potential all-stars
