Rounding up some minor moves from around the baseball-sphere…
- The Dodgers are nearing a minor league pact with Carlos Asuaje, per J.P. Hoornstra of the Southern California News Group (via Twitter). The 29-year-old utility-man appeared in 175 games for the Padres from 2016 to 2018 with a triple slash of .240/.312/.329. He saw 49 games of action with the Lotte Giants of the KBO in 2019. On a minor league deal, Asuaje is likely to get an invite to Spring Training, but he’s likely being brought on board primarily to serve as minor league insurance.
- The Red Sox have depth outfield Cesar Puello back into the fold on a minor league deal, according to Peter Abraham of the Boston Globe. The 29-year-old returns to Boston after appearing in five games last season. Puello has also seen Major League action with the Angels, Rays, and Marlins. He provides right-handed depth for the Red Sox with the ability to play all three outfield positions. He runs well, and he’s shown marked improvement in his command of the strike zone, walking at a 13.2% rate across 167 plate appearances while with the Angels’ Triple-A club in 2019.

The world awaits the Rob Refsnyder signing. Morosi, Nightengale, Heyman, Rosenthal, all standing with baited breath….

Just give it a few hours for the update that the Blue Jays are rumoured to be interested in him.

Maybe he’s baiting you?!

Honestly perfect fit. Asuaje is an a** and deserves an entitled team like the dodgers to cater too his jerk-like qualities

Interesting…I’m not familiar with him, only from some Twitter posts while in the KBO…what’s the deal with him?
padresfan23
He’s probably lying. He posts YouTube videos and seems like a nice guy

Well, enTITLEd is correct. Thanks!

Now when some loud-mouthed Yankee fan says something like that they get smacked from here to the Bronx, and rightly so. The lesson is that it’s best not to brag about titles, whether you’re a fan of the Yankees, Red Sox, Giants, Astros, Dodgers, etc. Just not a good look, especially to small market team fans who have the deck stacked against them. We need to be honest about that and act accordingly. No gloating.
NotADeltaBravo
That is correct from a sense of being proactive in instigation of banter or trash talk. However, if the pun is there in response to a petty argument like the one in question, it is fair game. A coherent argument merits a coherent response. This did not fall into that bucket in any way.

He is just following orders. They will not be big spenders until fans can pack Fenway once again, if then. Don’t hold your breath waiting for this team to open the purse and empty it in an effort to be competitive ala dombrowski. That’s why Bloom was hired. Fiscal responsibility first before attempting to finish first. Get used to it.

I think MLB and the MLBPA dropped the ball this year. The winter meetings are supposed to bring attention to the game and get fans excited for the upcoming season. As an entertainment industry they really dropped a dud and as a fan I am frustrated. There a media outlets that invest money on programming to cover it and in a time when revenue is down they had a real chance here to boost interest. NBA and Hockey start soon. College sports and the NFL are in full swing.

Worcester should have a fantastic team, because of all the mlb depth Bloom has acquired! It is how you make your mlb team stronger in case of injuries (which inevitably happen).

It would be the most classic Padres/Dodgers outcome if Asuaje ends up mashing once he puts on the Dodger blue.
In all seriousness though, he’s not a bad AAA depth option even if 2B/LF is kind of a bleh position profile for a bench guy. It kinda surprised me that SD cut bait with him as quickly as they did, he still had an option year when they DFA’ed him, but it was kinda clear he’s not a starting caliber 2B, so it really shouldn’t matter.

San Diego has such a strong farm system that they traded Potts and Rosario to the Red Sox rather than loose them in the Rule 5 draft, so even with an option left Asuaje would have been using a 40-man roster spot that went to someone else with a higher ceiling.
