Would have been interested to see possibly an addendum theorizing predicted trades leading to some of the signings. I saw a list of names at the bottom that included possibly traded players, but it’d be interesting to see an elaboration of the thought process if, for example, ATL traded for Kris Bryant, making that signing of OF Michael Brantley take have a different perspective. Appreciate the content.

I agree. Not sure how much time they’d want to spend on that, but could take on a couple forms.
One, just individual star guys. Maybe top 10 guys from their FA list get a write up on butterfly effect
But that would need trades looped in too
Easier may be by position, consider top free agents and expected trade targets, then write up a couple “what if’s” for teams expected to be in those races?
Could get sloppy but could also be an awesome reference point+conversation starter
RunDMC
My thought is that you know they taken into consideration likely trades (i.e. Lindor or Mookie Betts last offseason) from the writings on the wall. If they didn’t, that would dramatically affect their results.
UnknownPoster
I hear you. They say at the bottom “some needs will be filled Trade” as justification for not picking teams filling a need or not getting a specific guy
I’d think it’s considered in some capacity
ncbravesfan95
I don’t see the Braves trading for Bryant though who know whats up A.A sleeve. I wouldn’t mind seeing them make a deal for Arenado but hes got a no trade clause and he; would be expensive just straight up Riley and Shewmake for Lindor and sign him to an extension that would make him a Brave for life
YaGottaBelieveAgain
Speaking philosophically Money Can’t Buy You Love. Given the reality of this year (Virus, politics, long term health issues and more, esp P with TJ and ToS fears; NOT every player is going to automatically take most $. They may already have made life changing $ previously. Some players have a comfort with NL or AL only (DH) Until it is universal it changes decision. Family issues also of course. Makes sense? Does to me.
YaGottaBelieveAgain
I see Villar as a useful versatile hitter. Some speed, plays most of IF. Probably not expensive. Leadoff or #9. Justin Turner is still clutch but maybe only 2 years left. Finally got a ring.
Joggin’George
Villar could be a good guy to take a chance on, but he’s no lead off hitter. Doesn’t get on base nearly enough.
Rangers29
I wanted to ask this question, but idk if it will get answered, feel free to answer it here: “Why are there so many players in baseball (sports in general), that have one good season and then are predicted to get 30 million dollars a year? Look at Trevor Rosenthal for example, he used to be terrific, had a huge step-back for a year, has a terrific short season, and now his name is thrown in with Hendriks and Hand? I think that’s outrageous. Good reliever, but not that level.”.
DarkSide830
because 2019 is an outlier compared to his career production
Rangers29
Bad example lol. But I could bring up a longer list, Marcus Semien, Trevor Bauer (Not worth 30 million like people acclaim imo, still like the guy though), etc. Then to look at other sports, in college football Joe Burrow was good until 2019 when he went off, and then he was a lock to be a number 1 pick, miles ahead of anyone else. Just a lot of way-too-quick decision making is done in sports.
Joggin’George
I felt the same about Rosenthal. I wouldn’t give him nearly that much.
UnknownPoster
Dude, an example in your very post falls right in line with what your saying about Rosenthal. And why teams pay them
Hendricks was outrighted and not claimed by 30 teams just 2 years ago. No one wanted him. Now he’s the cream of the reliever crop
If you can throw 2 seasons together with decent supporting stats, and time it with your free agency, teams will pay you because the other options are worse. Everyone needs bullpen help, not many teams can crank out Mlb arms like LAD/TB etc.
Or success in oct. teams love paying for that. the reason Springer will make so much is his oct way more than his Regular season imo
With starters, the best are paid 35M. So the above average are 20-25M now. They were 10M arms when 20M was the top of the market. It’s inflation haha
throwinched10
Do you guys see Austin Meadows as a platoon player going forward?
Joggin’George
Hard to say which Meadows is the real one. If it’s somewhere between his ‘19 and his’20, then maybe. But I don’t concern myself with individual splits for hitters. They’re pretty much even from player to player. So he’s either good enough for everyday, or just good enough to platoon.
UnknownPoster
Wait. You think all lefties should be able to face all lefties, because they’re major leaguers?
Even if their skill is murdering RHP. You want to set them up for failure, so you can call them major leaguers?
Joc Pederson laughs in your face. As do most lefty sluggers. 70% of the league is RHP. You don’t have to hit lefties to have a career. Or have a productive one
lowtalker1
I’m still laughing at the two qo that made no sense

Padres and Cubs matchup in a trade…
Rizzo and Bryant for Myers and Hosmer, eh just throwing out crazy ideas.
Twinsfan333
Nicely done tow you managed to come up with a trade neither team would accept. That’s not easy
UnknownPoster
You’re joking right? SD has tried to get rid of Myers basically since he arrived
You’re also going to take away the other ridiculous long term deal on payroll, for short term commitments? Preller would drive them to Chicago for you. Sd would instantly take that deal
Now. The cubs. Lol they are crying poor and this guy wants to give them 2 ugly contacts and take two of their best 3 players. Padre fan hahaha
towinagain
Good point. It’d be like you countering with a Baez for Tatis.
In all honesty. More along the lines that Hosmer is under contract for the next few years and Rizzo is hitting the open market and will receive a substantial raise, making Hosmer look affordable.
Bryant has been injured. Does be return to form? Myers has been relatively healthy and in Wrigley would absolutely rake.
So yes on the surface this trade is absurd but can you count on Bryant’s health. Will he return to form? Is it worth just one more year of Rizzo and he walks?
So yes on the Cub’ s side plenty of question marks.
UnknownPoster
I’m not saying the cubs guys are perfect by any means
What I’m getting at is if the cubs move on from those 2, they’re likely moving on from competing. They’d be lookin at the padres farm not their big contracts
The padres have the talent to get about anyone because they kept the top of the farm. The thing is now teams have less meat to choose in 6-20 range from before they start demanding the top guys. It’s a balancing act every team that goes from farm to competing has to do. We’ll see how the Pads do with their trades
ncbravesfan95
How bout Ender Inciarte and Tyler Flowers for Myers
slider32
Cubs would want Patino for Bryant!
jkinser20
LOL. Rizzo and Bryant much more valuable
Phanatic 2022
Too much future commitment for Cubs.
17dizzy
I can see the Yankees paying a better salary for both Wainwright and Molina than the Cardinals. 2 star team leaders with World Series experience. Both would reasonably fit within the Yanks budget. These 2 would play key roles in helping lead the Yankees to the 2021 World Series.
joseluish22160
JBJ strong candidate to rebound 2021 season.
bhambrave
JBJ’s 2020 was an outlier. He will “rebound” to a sub-100 OPS+.
Jim Tom
If White Sox didn’t sign Springer who could be another candidate in right or do they stick with Mazara and Engel?
ABCD
Mazara is probably non-tendered unless he takes a pay cut. Right now Leury probably platoons with Engel.
koon44
I prefer Brantley or Bradley jr. If Reinsdorff didn’t let Hahn interview Hinch cause of the cheating scandal, he’s not going to let him sign Springer.
Jim Tom
I like JBJ. I would trade offense for defense if it was for him.
