Free agent outfielder Steven Souza Jr. has hired Moye Sports Associates to represent him moving forward, tweets MLB Network’s Jon Heyman. He’d previously been with ACES.
Souza, 31, returned from a catastrophic knee injury in 2020 and struggled through a rough showing with the Cubs, hitting just .148/.258/.333 in a tiny sample of 31 plate appearances. Some struggles were to be expected after Souza suffered not only a torn ACL but a torn LCL, partially torn PCL and a torn posterolateal capsule in his right knee during a Spring Training game with the D-backs in 2019. The gruesome knee injury shelved Souza for the entire season and could very well have put his future in the game in jeopardy, given the extent of the damage, but he was thankfully at least able to work back to the field in 2020.
Given the recent history of injuries and Souza’s down showing with the Cubs, a minor league pact seems likely this winter. It’s been awhile since we saw him at his best due not only to that knee injury but also a pectoral issue in 2018, but Souza did give the Rays a strong .239/.351/.459 slash with 30 big flies back in 2017. He has a strong defensive track record in right field as well, although a knee injury of that magnitude will of course give clubs some reason for trepidation.
Souza’s switch in representation has been updated in MLBTR’s Agency Database, which contains information on more than 2500 Major League and Minor League players. We do our best to keep it up to date, though the frequency with which players hire new representation makes that an uphill battle. If you see any errors or omissions, please let us know via email: mlbtrdatabase@gmail.com.

Souza is changing agents.. But Dbacks fans will tell you he should change sports. Souza is a nonproductive, often injured hothead. Total waste of a uniform.

Oh, grow up. You don’t know him – non productive? Please explain. Injuries – yes. It happens in every single sport. Great athletes careers get ruined by injury. Steven Souza is as toolsy of a player you find. Great athlete; runs, throws, power. I don’t know him, but watched him in Hagerstown and up through Syracuse. To hear you say a waste of a uniform is so obnoxious. Trying to come back from a “catastrophic knee injury.” I think it’s probably going to take a little time for him to get going again. Some people on here are unbelievable. Did you ever play anything?
goalieguy41
He played with himself but wasn’t good at it

Did you happen to see what he’s fought to come back from, @rexwood?
I’m oddly impressed you were able to rip on him so completely.
Cool.
Tell ya what.
If I’m picking between him and you to play on my team it’s Souza by a fecking landslide.
Lets Go DBacks
I think he is referring to Souza’s contribution in Arizona before his severe injury. That was an underperforming and wild season for him, although during that season he was injured too. I don’t know how to explain, you need to be a D-backs fan to understand and have seen the games, but the vibe just seemed wrong. Too much aggression in his play; hitting, on the bases and in the outfield. I wish him all well though.

Fair enough, @let’sgodbacks.
Thanks for trying to shed some light on that take.
Personally, I think just getting back on the field after all that is worthy of a hat tip.
Uh?
But I never had to root for him either lol.

A career 31% K-Rate, a career 30% caught stealing rate, routes to fly balls that are historic for their comedic value…….some pop, but that doesn’t play well of the bench. If your running Stevie out there every day, you’re not going anywhere.
Good attitude, tho, and the kind of guy second division teams love. As long as he’s at Minimum Wage (which he probably won’t accept), and your dream is to finish 4th in your division, he’s OK.
Yep it is
Souza needs to sign with a rep that specializes in Independent League teams. Any Major League team that signs him the GM should be fired immediately
thesalesman812
You probably played Indy ball so you would know. Tell me about your professional career? How long did you play?

He is such a good athlete. If it wasn’t to injuries he’d be a better player

Someone explain to me why Steven Souza changing agents is worthy of anyone caring. Cmon. Who cares
solaris602
I agree despite his many inexplicable apologists. No matter who reps him the best he can expect this winter is a non-roster invite, and even then it would just be as a depth move. Get consistently healthy and productive if you want a better contract.

I’m still shocked the nats got Trea Turner for him, even though Souza was already in his mid 20s with little productivity
