It’s a rest and recovery day around baseball now that the World Series matchup is set. We’re a day away from the final 4-to-7 games of baseball! But before the action kicks off, let’s take a quick moment to check on a couple of injury notes…
- Cody Bellinger expects to be fine for the World Series after popping his shoulder out of its socket while celebrating his 7th-inning home run, per MLB.com’s Anthony DiComo. Bellinger stayed in the game and did not appear to be limited in the field – nor did he appear concerned as he mimed the injury from the grass in center. The shoulder was “sore, but functional,” per DiComo, who also notes that Bellinger has dealt with this injury more than a few times over his career. Said Bellinger, “I’m going to maybe use my left arm. I’ve never dislocated that one.” Granted, Bellinger was riding high in that particular moment, having hit the game-winning home run to take his team into the World Series, but especially given his familiarity with this type of injury, it seems extremely unlikely to threaten his availability next week.
- Giants prospect Heliot Ramos injured his oblique during instructional league play, per Henry Schulman of the San Francisco Chronicle. Ramos should be good to go for spring training, with the only real concern stemming from the fact that he suffered a similar injury back in February. Ramos is the Giants presumptive centerfielder of the future, who could theoretically compete to make the major league roster as soon as next season. Their first round pick (19th overall) in the 2017 draft, the 21-year-old raked to the tune of .306/.385/.500 in High-A in 2019. Along with Joey Bart and Marco Luciano, Ramos forms part of a strong core of Giants positional prospects hoping to make an impact on the next strain of San Francisco playoff teams. Ramos made it as high as Double-A in 2019, a level he would have theoretically repeated at least to start the 2020 season (had there been one).
Loling @ you
I think farhan will turn giants around sooner rather than later. Will enjoy the rivalry again!
Maknauer21
I think a lot of these prospects will come up sooner than expected and make a big impact right away
leolujan77
Can’t wait
fred-3
Giants have to get on the Padres level before they even think about Los Angeles
ric7744
Won’t be hard to pass the Padres as the Giants will spend 3 times more on the Payroll once they see that they are ready to contend.
fred-3
I disagree. The Padres are good and young and will be a playoff team for at least the next 3 years. That’s 2 playoff spots coming from the West for the foreseeable future.
lowtalker1
Spending money still doesn’t build chemistry.
Howie415
The Dodgers have probably the best team in the West the past 15 years. But, they still haven’t won a ring.
fred-3
Not true. They were a mess under Frank McCourt, with his disastrous divorce from ‘09-‘11. They had the great talent but no structure with Ned Colletti from ‘12-‘14 (really it was ‘06-14). Under Freidman ‘15-now, they’re a juggernaut. Best run organization, that got cheated out of a World Series, maybe even 2
Loling @ you
@fred thank you for the last post you hit it right on the head! Any way you slice it the nl west will be fun to watch for years to come! Dodgers, padres, giants!!! Let’s go!
scottn59c
Heck yeah! It’s a great rivalry in this division.
lowtalker1
Doyuers were trash up until half way through the 2013 season when they brought puig up
Sure they made it to the nlcs in 09, but that’s it
The padres had the division in 2005 and 2006 and blew it the last week in 2007.
Giants ran the league 10,12,14 marked by their titles
Going into this season thy won 6 championships out of 23…
lowtalker1
No one likes LA, just the same with nyy
Loling @ you
@lowtalker1 from where I’m standing no one likes you.
talking baseball
Nailed it !!!!
scottn59c
@lowtalker: therefore…?
Pete'sView
Tatsumaki – I’m not sure why you need to get personal with lowtalker1. And all he/she said was that many fans don’t like the Dodgers and Yankees. I think that’s a pretty fair statement. Doesn’t mean you can’t root for ether or both of them.
djulio4u
You are dreaming, what has he ever done to make you believe that? He is too busy firing the Dir. of Travel, Vis. Clubhouse guy, and scouts/coaches that were present during the WS run!!
mrnatewalter
You mean the same scouts/coaches that made decisions that got the Giants where they are today?
The old regime rested in their laurels for way too long and Zaidi did what was necessary. The old regime gave away young talent for overpaid, past-their-prime veterans. And they loved to give players ridiculous extensions, very few of which have worked in the Giants favor (i.e. Matt Cain).
In two seasons, Zaidi has quietly restocked the Giants farm system. He has shown he can find the misfit toys and turn them into key contributors (Yaz, Solano, Dickerson, etc.). And if this season gave any indication, it’s that his coaching and instructional staff are most likely going to be crucial to their success going forward. The Giants’ offense got remarkably better overnight with these new hires.
Anyone not trusting Zaidi at this point is doing so from a position of ignorance or arrogance.
FredMcGriff for the HOF
Exactly why I’ll be rooting for the Rays. Some of those Dodgers have WAY to big of egos.
UnknownPoster
Lol you’re so full of crap Fred
There are so many humanitarians on the dodger team it’s ridiculous. Stop talking about stuff you know nothing about
Pete'sView
“Humanitarians”? Please explain.

Bitter Braves fan alert
fox471 Dave
McGriff deserves to be in HOF. You, Fred, do not deserve to use his name. What must it be like to wake up being you every single day? Yikes!
The Human Rain Delay
Giants have probably 2 more down years and thats fine, they should slow roll these next 2 years-
The fact that they have been in a wild card (semi) race the last month the last 2 years is just gravy – They shouldnt let that fool them. Take 2 more down years and use those deep pockets for 2023 and you’ll be fine –
I think (?) they know this, as a Dodger fan I hope, love the rivalry when both teams are going well
Padres have a nice 5 year window ahead of them. My concern with them is leadership, when you have Manny Machado, you have none. One can only hope he doesnt rub off on Tatis moving forward
Howie415
As a long time Giants fan, I am liking what the Farhan regime is doing. I feel like they have more depth in the farm system then they have had in decades. They are teaching their hitters to be more selective at the plate, which is a must at Oracle. I think they can make a serious run in 2025.
The Human Rain Delay
I think sooner if they keep using cash in unique ways- Cash is going to be King these next couple years and Im fascinated to see how they use it even while re-building –
The Cozart buy might be just the tip of the iceberg here
By 23 that payroll is wiped completely clean even 22’s payroll looking pretty good as well
What would the Angels give up to give Jup for Cueto….probably quite a bit all things considering….Marsh+
UnknownPoster
As soon as Farhan left LA to SF, I think all dodger fans knew the giant rebuild would be legitimate. I’d expect them to build a pipeline that churns out quality players like Rays and Dodgers within the next few years
ABStract
Thank you Laughing!
I don’t know why there’s so much anti-Zaidi hate, the Giants-Dodgers rivalry will overtake NY/BOS again in the 20’s
I’d put the Pads in there too, but I have to agree with a previous commenter that with Machado as team leader, you’ve really gotta worry about all the young guys like Tatis thinking that his attitude is something to emulate. That team could be completely horrible again in a couple years without the right leadership
UnknownPoster
Yea man. Zaidi has his fingerprints all over the 2013-16/17 teams directly, and even these teams were built from drafts that he oversaw with Friedman. You guys got a great person to build a complete franchise. I’m a dodger fan too. In a few years, that rivalry will be heating up again
With pads. Yeah they are certainly at or near the same level. And I think the Machado concern is very legitimate. We’ll see if the padres end up trying to add other leadership figures but I wouldn’t hold my breathe. seems like they are going to let Machado lead this crew
Hudson6
Tatis leads the Padres, not Manny. Hosmer and Pham have also taken on leadership roles. Manny and Myers are followers, not leaders.
UnknownPoster
I’d you think the 300M player+ the longest tenured padre Aren’t going to be leaders (or try) is laughable
I fully believe Tatis can become a leader. But he’s the one who needs to be led into his career right now. How he works out, how he preps for games, for pitchers, for a series. Tatis can’t tell others how it is if he’s there for the first time as well
Ducky Buckin Fent
Tatis is also the son of a former big leaguer.
None of us are in that locker room with them. But considering his talent, demeanor, & the fact that he’s been around major league baseball players his entire life I don’t have a hard time picturing him as his team’s leader.
scottn59c
All signs pointing to 2022 as being the year the Giants go all in. Maybe sooner if the Giants are in contention at the next deadline.
sleepyfloyd
If the giants prospects were as good as Acuña they would be up. Stop the BS about competing soon. They won’t smell a division crown for 5 seasons
AndyWarpath
They’ve been a winning team since May of last year. Maybe not catching the Dodger soon, but the team is clearly a well built franchise with very few payroll obligations and a well above average farm system.
Howie415
The Giants prospects are younger than Acuna. Please learn something about baseball before you start flapping your jaws.
UnknownPoster
Dude Acuña was up at 20. He’s a ridiculous talent
Even if they’re younger, I’d bet money there are not many that are currently on trajectories to be stars at 20 in the majors. Maybe in AA
Another example, Acuña is younger than Joey Bart… relax man
sleepyfloyd
Exactly none of the giants prospects are the star quality to be up at 20. Plus to be competitive in the west with the Dodgers and Padres they would have to hit on a majority of these so called prospects which we know is not going to happen. Bart is as 23 and Ramos is 21 and not even close to being ready.
Howie415
Wow!! You know the names of 2 players in the Giants system. I guess you also know the next 10 World Series winners. What else can you predict…Oh, Luciano just turned 19.
The Human Rain Delay
Perhaps Belli will shorten down the swing and start getting some more line drives- He’s always so much better when he’s not hunting the Hr
Hes never gotten fully locked in this year and probably wont thru the end but thats fine, take some hits to LF, play that amazing D and go get that ring!
BlueSkies_LA
Next week?
Jeff Zanghi
I understand why the Giants would be high on both Ramos and Luciano as both look like promising prospects. But I’d also say it’s a little bit too early to be penciling them in as everyday players in their next core of “playoff teams” – Ramos hit well in A+ but struggled a bit in AA and had a rougher season in 2018 so he probably needs a bit more seasoning before truly knowing what he’s going to bring at the ML level. And Luciano had a tremendous first season in rookie/A-ball but he’s only played one professional season so far and hasn’t exactly been tested. Both guys look like they could certainly be future stars – or at least future everyday players. But I think they’re probably a couple, if not 3 years away from being true ‘core’ players for a playoff team.
Howie415
From what I am reading, people are impressed with Luciano’s maturity. His game day approach is what they like about him.
Baseball 1600
Wait so what you’re saying is… they’re unproven prospects? Shocker.
Howie415
Since when has there ever been a proven prospect? That is the very definition of prospect.
James1955
They are called prospects, not sure things. The good position player prospects give Giants fans hope for the future.
Ian Phillips
Beat L.A! Let’s go Rays!
