The Braves will start right-hander Bryse Wilson in Game 4 of the National League Championship Series against the Dodgers, Gabe Burns of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports. He’s likely to go up against Dodgers ace Clayton Kershaw. In the meantime, it will be Kyle Wright for the Braves against Julio Urias of the Dodgers on Wednesday as Atlanta tries to take a 3-0 lead in the series.
If the Braves win Game 3, Wilson have a chance to close out the series against the legendary Kershaw and the Dodgers in what will be his playoff debut. A fourth-round pick in 2016 and a former top 100 prospect, Wilson has seen action with the Braves in each season since 2018. The 22-year-old has had difficulty in the majors, though, having posted a 5.91 ERA/5.42 FIP with 7.8 K/9 and 5.27 BB/9 in 42 2/3 innings.
Wilson has made 15 appearances in his MLB career, and he has lasted more than five innings just once. That suggests the Braves will have to heavily rely on their bullpen Thursday.

Luis… its julio
Chief Two Hands
Facts don’t matter on this site.
Connor Byrne
Stupid mistake. It’s fixed. My apologies.
Chief Two Hands
It happens. We are just teasing.
hersch
Damn auto correct.
lowtalker1
Doesn’t matter he will lose.
bhambrave
Wilson has a ton of talent. He just doesn’t trust it yet.
DTD_ATL
I don’t either, just like Kyle Wright. Both are mentally weak.
busterhyman
Weak huh. 1 hitter through 6 innings on 70 or so pitches. Looks like if the series goes 7 games he could be our game 1 starter for the world series. From not good enough to make the rotation in the regular season to pitching game 1. I love baseball.
Brew’88
honestly, I hope Braves fans realize that all things considered that might have been the most impressive playoff pitching performance since Bumgarner
woodwardb13
Julio? Lol
Chief Two Hands
Samsonite! I was way off!
philliesphan77
The owls. They’re beautiful!
lowtalker1
Down by the school yard ?
jackhammer838
Please start Luis instead of Julio!!!
Rangers29
I read some local Atlanta articles earlier today(like Talking Chop), and as one would infer, Braves fans are pumped. I am loving the energy I am seeing from the Braves right now, and they are the team I will be cheering for to win the WS this year. Rays-Braves WS would be an awesome refresher and probably an instant classic.
SalaryCapMyth
That’s the matchup I want to see most too.
southi
That (Braves v Rays) is probably the matchup that the media would like to see the least.
Rangers29
Yeah, the media wants an Astros-Dodgers matchup, but… well… screw them, I wanna see Braves Rays lol. It’d be way more exciting on a day to day basis, but with less drama.
bhambrave
I agree. They were salivating over a Houston/L.A. matchup.
SalaryCapMyth
Makes since the media would love that match up, maybe more than they would have the Dodgers-Yankees. Would make for great headlines. I think those of us who just love baseball would prefer Braves – Devil Rays though unless you were already cheering for any of those teams.
Lloyd Emerson
Since when is Luis Urias a pitcher for the Dodgers? Byrne’s slipping.
bhambrave
Ok, Floyd.
Briffle2
Serenity now, Lloyd, insanity later.
Chief Two Hands
Hoochiemama!
Briffle2
It turns out his phone wasn’t even plugged in, he just liked ringing the bell!
Rangers29
Not related to this, but I just saw a report that said the Rangers are interested in Ha-Seong Kim come the off-season!!! Make my day Rangers! This also means that they may actually be serious about moving on from Odor or Andrus!
Mrtwotone
Andrus still has some value I believe. Odor? Not so much
SalaryCapMyth
Moving on might not necessarily mean trading either player for a meaningful return. They may just have to release one of them and take the loss.
Rangers29
Yeah, I don’t expect us to get a “meaningful return” on either of them. Maybe another high priced guy for Odor, but that’s about it.
citizen
whats the over / under Dave roberts gets the Axe after the braves sweep?
southi
If by chance Atlanta would sweep the dodgers (which I CERTAINLY don’t expect at all), then there will probably be a segment of the dodgers fanbase calling for his head, but the truth is, who would you think would be a definite improvement over Roberts?
I just don’t see him getting fired.
RunDMC
AJ Hinch – for the irony.
UGA_Steve
Oh, wouldn’t that be fun.
hersch
Roberts fired? The odds are much higher that the braves won’t be able to extend the series to 7 games.
southi
If Bryse Wilson can get through the Dodgers lineup even once without them scoring I think that most Braves fans would be pleased. If he could someway pitch 4 innings and only give up a run I think most would be thrilled.
Mrtwotone
3 or 4 innings of 1 run ball would be great
RunDMC
LAD are a good fastball-hitting team, like ATL, and that’s Wilson’s most used pitch. If he could do what Fried/Anderson have been doing and ride on the breaking ball/curve to offset his above-average FB, he could be successful. Problem is, like most SPs, can he throw it with accuracy consistently? Tomlin proved what happens when your pitches don’t break and miss the spot (i.e. Muncy sends it into the next county).
jonnyzuck
just about anyone would be pleased with 4 innings of 1 run ball. sure it’s not a lot of length but if you keep runs off the board that’s what counts
southi
Bryse Wilson EXCEEDED everyone’s expectations by pitching a phenomenal game against a tough lineup.
jints1
Rooting for the Braves but the Dodgers have the edge the next two nights. If they win the two, the momentum will be with them but the Braves will be able to throw Fried and Anderson. The lack of SP depth could hurt.
fabulous61
It only takes 4 wins and I think the Braves have the most legitimate shot at winning 4 being up 2 to 0 with Fried and Anderson able to pitch games 6 and 7 if necessary. I really don’t expect it to go more than 5 games though.
UGA_Steve
Agreed. Really hoping the Braves can manage to win one of the next two.
TradeAcuna
The Braves may lack starting depth but why do people act like the Dodgers are any better at the back end?
UGA_Steve
Maybe because Urias and Gonsolin have far better stats than Wilson and Wright.
TradeAcuna
You can compare many teams with better 3-5 than the Braves. The Braves mistake was standing pat in the off season, AA’s fault! The point is the Dodgers are not strong at the back end either. Better than Braves? Yes! Still nothing special from there end.
Blue_Painted_Dreams_LA
I could make an argument that for back end starters they are damn pretty strong. What your inferring is that back end guys are special. It’s as good as any back end in the league. I think if you consider a 1-3 rotation yes there are teams that have a better 3 than Urias, who even though not sharp threw ok and limited it to a run. I’m not sure what you’re realistically expecting if we’re being honest.
DTD_ATL
How did they stand pat exactly? Bringing in Hamels and Felix weren’t moves? Plus, I don’t think anyone expected Folty to only make 1 start either. They also had Anderson ready to make the jump with Wilson, Wright, and Touki getting a chance.
Briffle2
Because Walker wears tight pants.
UnknownPoster
Because the 3 guys they have- Urias,Gonsolin, May- are all more MLB polished pitchers
Rangers29
Kyle Wright was just wrong.
Briffle2
Game of inches with the first play of the game. Braves need to battle offensively the rest of the game. Win or lose, they need to make the Dodgers pitchers work.
whocaresaboutRBI
There’s the Kyle Wright we’re accustomed to seeing.
TradeAcuna
This is the cardinals game from last year all over ahead. Thankfully, the consequences is not as dare right away.
EDIT:
Yep, game 5 all over again. No excuse for this. None. AA better bring someone more significant next season than Milone.
Briffle2
Law of averages. The Braves pitching staff have been amazingly good, better than what it actually is. This is just the baseball gods evening that out. I’d rather have it all given back in one inning than spread out over three or four games.
SalaryCapMyth
This game is painful to watch but even if the Braves get blown out of the water today, we’ve seen more good than bad. Hell, the way this season started, anything past a division title is kind of gravy. I Don’t intend to sound defeatest. The Braves still have an excellent shot at the world series and no matter how hot the Braves are, you just shouldn’t ever expect to sweep the Dodgers.
TradeAcuna
I’m super annoyed the Braves are not giving the ball to Matzek tomorrow. I’m telling you…he is the biggest wildcard on the team.
lebzet
I totally agree. Matzek should have been stretched out further so he could go 5 in either game 4 or 5. The Dodgers are liable to destroy the Braves for two more days unless they bring back Fried in game 5. Whether that works or not is anyone’s guess
whocaresaboutRBI
Ynoa was really good tonight. Unfortunately because Wright and Dayton were such trash, they’re stuck piggybacking Wilson with Tomlin now. Could easily be a repeat of tonight’s game.
braves2
so are we not going to talk about Turner playing hackey sack in the first inning and getting awarded a HBP?
bravesfan
Wilson is solid and I think he has a very bright future as a back end of the rotation starter for a healthy career…. however i don’t think he has the pure stuff to beat the Dodgers… he’s gonna have to spot up like crazy to have a chance. I hope this post doesn’t age well… go braves!
mlbnyyfan
Must win for the Braves or Dodgers win in 7. All the pressure on Atlanta tonight
bravesfan
I don’t see how all pressure was o Atl last night but ok. Luckily my post didn’t age well and Wilson spotted up like a mad man! Great game by the kid!
Briffle2
The Dodgers have me shell shocked, I thought Betts had hit that out lol.
bhambrave
Welp, Wilson exceeded all expectations. Bravo!
Brew’88
And Kershaw was his usual playoff self
TradeAcuna
If there is one team in the sport that can blow this series, it is the Braves!
It’s the Braves. Only normal!
bhambrave
Yeah, as a Braves fan, I have a chronic insecurity. It’s as if the Braves have been winning using smoke and mirrors, and it’s all going to be exposed in the end. Are they really as good as they’ve been playing, or have they just been lucky?
TradeAcuna
Braves have weaknesses. The Dodgers are overrated frankly themselves. Playing their games in a weak west on both sides of the league is not impressive.
Going back to the Braves… it’s like it’s bound to happen. But unlike the other Braves teams in the last 2 decades, this team actually accomplished more. Maybe now they are due for winning in the postseason. Bound to happen too!
We will see what happens tomorrow but man do I wish they didn’t use Matzek today.
Briffle2
Smith sucking is what hurt. It limits his availability for today and then they had to bring in Martin.
The Braves had to use all their top relievers except for Melancon, but now he’s got two days off, so he could probably work two innings. Matzek and Greene should still be able to work an inning and maybe Martin too. I gotta imagine Tomlin starts tonight. If he can go three, maybe four and give up three or less runs the Braves will have a chance.
Brew’88
Huh? I’m not a Braves fan but this is as good a Braves lineup as I’ve seen in decades. Your team is good, accept that fercry’noutloud
