Outfielder Abraham Almonte has elected to become a free agent rather than accept an outright assignment from the Padres. Almonte was designated for assignment two days ago to create space for rookie southpaw Ryan Weathers to join San Diego’s NLDS roster.
Signed to a minor league contract in the offseason, Almonte ended up appearing in seven games for the Padres, collecting a hit and two walks over 13 plate appearances as he was shuttled between the MLB roster and the alternate training site.
The 31-year-old will now head into the open market looking to catch on with another team, after playing for six different organizations during his 15 total seasons in pro baseball. Almonte has appeared in each of the last eight Major League seasons, with a career .237/.298/.370 slash line, 18 homers, and 25 steals (from 33 chances) over 1151 plate appearances. Almonte is known less for his switch-hitting bat and more for his ability to play all three outfield positions, which could make him attractive on another minors contract for a team looking for outfield depth in 2021.

I hope some people that comment here are watching the Padres-Dodgers game. Anyways, many people criticize the new Rangers park (well deserved criticism btw), and ignoring all of the lack of personality in the park, how do y’all like the camera angle of the game? I personally don’t like it. It seems so far away, I’d much rather have an angle like at Petco, zoomed in a little further, and lower down. Just my opinion.
joseselmer
I actually like the angle, it gives us a better perception of what pitch is thrown
JayKay
I am also pro-new camera angle.
Maybe over time it’ll grown on you? Depends on the mindset and preference, I assume.

I don’t like the park, just like I don’t like Atlanta’s park. I rather this game be played in Houston when they had the hill. I loved the hill. But I hate this stadium

I actually like the new Braves stadium, but I will go on a little rant here about Globe Life. Things I want to see added to the park:
We can’t help the roof, so get that idea out of here, but other than the brick arches out in left field, there is nothing but dark green padding in that stadium. Put in different colored seats, and then make a brick backstop like at the ballpark in Arlington before. That’s one of the things I loved about that park. Finally, add something to make the ball fly better when the roof is shut. Like a literal dehydrator because with the roof open, one team always scores ten runs.
Annd maybe put a better team inside the park please.

Padres actually hit the ball better when the roof was closed. Slam Diego started with the roof closed

I used to live in the Metroplex and went to many games at the Ballpark in Arlington. I loved that stadium but I didn’t like going to night games in the summer and sweating like a pig.
So although the new park will never have the ambiance of the previous park I’m sure Ranger fans like you will agree that going to watch your team in a more comfortable setting will be a better experience.
Your requests seem reasonable though so I’m sure they can be implemented.

Honest Abe finally going to get paid
JayKay
He honestly has struggled to hit in the majors, I will give him that.
Easy humor aside, I concur with the sentiment.
DarkSide830

Good they should have never selected his contact

Unsure how I feel about the new ballpark. Its average, sure its nice and new. It does lack character

I haven’t seen it but still take a look. I am sure they will add stuff to it next season. You shouldn’t need colored seats right away they should have good crowds for awhile just to see the park.
You get a few of the Texas fans on a beer night special they should add some color. Along with a few guys eating that hot dog. I haven’t seen anyone eat that much meat. Wait this is Arlington not Dallas never mind.

I have seen the park and it made little impact. T Mobile has been around for awhile but had gone through a few face lifts.
They played with the batters eye for years trying to make it work for different times of day. They brought the fences in and a few other things. Made a spot to watch the pitchers in the BP.
One of the biggest was to add restaurants in the OF. It has added a break up of seats or walls and brought texture. They can do the same in this park. Just depends on how they feel about it. Fun for the fans to sit in a restaurant and watch a live game. Not as fun as when they had the stadium in Canada ( forget Jays or Expos) with a hotel as one wall.

NL division series were mere paperwork. As expected, Dodgers vs. Braves.
DrDan75
It’s pretty tough to face the Dodgers without your two best starters anytime, but especially in a playoff game.
Shoeless Joe
What about Danny Almonte? He should sign He’s probably only really 65 now!
