The Rangers announced that they’ve designated right-hander Luis Garcia for assignment. They also activated outfielder Willie Calhoun, recalled righty Demarcus Evans and optioned outfielder Scott Heineman.
The 33-year-old Garcia was a winter minor league pickup for the Rangers, with whom he threw 8 1/3 innings this season but had little luck keeping runs off the board. Opposing offenses battered Garcia for nine runs (seven earned) on seven hits and nine walks. The former Phillie and Angel now owns a 4.26 ERA/4.32 FIP with 8.55 K/9, 4.77 BB/9 and a 55.1 percent groundball rate in 315 major league innings.
Calhoun’s now back after missing just under a month with a left hamstring strain. At 17-30 and in possession of the AL’s second-worst record, playoff hopes are dead for the Rangers, but perhaps Calhoun will be able to end the season on a positive note. The former top 100 prospect seemed to turn the corner at the plate in 2019, but he could only manage a .172/.206/.224 line with no home runs in 63 plate appearances this season before his IL stint.

Ever since Luis Garcia left the Phillies, he’s been awful. Just leave the AL West, not too hard.

YEESSSSS!!! Not that I hate Garcia, because he has been okay, despite a few outings… BUT Demarcus Evans is finally up!!! We have been wanting this guy all season long and he is finally here! Hopefully Alex Speas comes up too in the next week, because he is rule 5 eligible this off-season. But now our bullpen is looking like this
Montero
Hernandez
Evans
Martin
Benjamin
Hearn
Chavez
Herget
And when J-Rod and Leclerc come back next season, you can bet that Herget and Chavez are gone, or maybe just Chavez and move Benjamin to the Rotation. But then our pen looks like this:
Montero
Hernandez
Leclerc
Evans
Martin
J-Rod
Herget
Hearn
That is a nice bullpen IMO. A lot better than I could have ever thought going into this season.

If only Texas had a good lineup to go with that bullpen. Hopefully some of those guy make it long enough to pitch in a postseason series for the team.

Hopefully our owners sell the team, and replace the entire front office, so that we can try to field a competitive team.

I know it’s not a big deal, but John Blake of the Rangers tweeted out that the Rangers signed Andrew Romine… so… okay. Jon Daniels also said earlier today that they are wanting to sign Kluber back, but just not on his 18 million dollar option. JD also said that they do not want to sign any veterans this off-season, so that he can get as many young guys playing as possible. I’m curious what this team looks like it 21′ now.

Nearly identical to what it does now lineup wise. Andrus and Odor aren’t going anywhere. Only difference is Mathis will be gone too. If they go full young guys, it’s going to be a long year. Rotation wise it’ll be similar just maybe without Kluber and I don’t see anyone trading a lot for Lynn so JD won’t trade him. Might as well see what the young guys have next year too. They won’t compete with Oakland or Houston without spending money and even if they did they still wouldnt fill a team that’s that competitive. I’m just glad Evans is coming up. Should’ve happened a month ago.

If the Rangers are going to use the ’21 season as a rebuilding one then a new GM is needed. I have no confidence in Daniels going through another rebuild. Seems like they’ve been doing that for the last several years and are still “bad”.
