The Orioles announced that they’ve designated outfielder Mason Williams for assignment.
Now 29 years old, Williams was a first-round pick of the Yankees in 2010 who hasn’t established himself in the majors. He’s only a .272/.309/.370 hitter across 252 plate appearances, including 52 with the Orioles since 2019. Williams went 2-for-18 with nine strikeouts this season before the Orioles before Friday. They previously DFA’d Williams on Sept. 1 and then outrighted him Sept. 4, only to bring him back for a short period.
When he was with the yanks, Mason signed the back of my phone (there was a sticker on it) before a game against the orioles where he later hit his first career bomb. I then talked to him for a while a couple years later in Scranton when he was back in the minors, and he said “oh you’re the phone guy!” Really nice dude who’s always had tools. Hope he catches on somewhere.
Yet another future Yankee hall of famer is flaming out.
Please, tell me more about your career!
He’s a professional Fred McGriff HOF lobbyist.
Sounds promising.
That’s a cool story. Cool too that he remembered you.
I love his version of classical gas excellent guitar playing
Tommy Emmanuel is the best…
If he could handle a bat like he handles a guitar, he’d be a lock for the hall!
Haha. I made that exact same joke when he first came up.
Who??????
If Mason Williams is too obscure for you, why are you commenting on this site? Dude was a top 100 prospect for three straight years.
Good player just needs the chance.
Not.
Fringe 5th outfielder.
Still better than Davis
He’s had plenty of chances with the Yankees, Reds, O’s etc. Maybe he needs to learn how to pitch next or goto McDonald’s or Home Depot
Do you assume he can’t do other jobs just because he’s better than you at sports?
He was a fairly good prospect at one point, but just to clarify he was a 4th round pick, not a 1st rounder.
Classical Gassed
Why is it that on some posts this sites mentions that a player had a “respectable” batting average of, anything from .250 to .260, but poor Mason has “only” a .272 batting average. ? Different writers with different attitudes towards player offensive numbers ?
Batting average is not what is referenced. It’s 2020, time to leave your stone age analysis where’re it belongs. A .679 OPS is not good, no matter what his BA is
Maybe don’t mock someone for which stats they use if you’re going to immediately cite OPS afterward? OPS has always been a nonsensical junk stat.
The negativity is strong with Oooof…
Eh, on this site’s A-hole depth chart, he’s only a 5 or 6, but his stock is rising
