Mariners outfielder/infielder Dylan Moore is done for the season as a result of a concussion, the team announced. Moore suffered the injury when he took a pitch off the helmet on Monday, ending what was a terrific campaign for the 28-year-old. Moore batted .255/.358/.496 with eight home runs and 12 stolen bases over 159 plate appearances in 2020.
- Twins right-hander Jake Odorizzi will “probably” be on their wild-card series roster, per manager Rocco Baldelli (via Do-Hyoung Park of MLB.com). Odorizzi has been on the IL since Sept. 19 with a blister on his right middle finger. This is the third IL stint of the year for Odorizzi, who previously dealt with back and chest issues. As a result, the Twins – who gave him a $17.8MM qualifying offer last winter – have only gotten 13 2/3 innings of 6.59 ERA pitching from Odorizzi this season. Nevertheless, they’re on their way to a second straight playoff berth.
- Reds left-hander Wade Miley, on the IL with a shoulder strain since Aug. 28, is “pretty close to 100 percent,” according to manager David Bell (via Bobby Nightengale of the Cincinnati Enquirer). The playoff-contending Reds are likely to use Miley out of the bullpen if he is able to return this year, Nightengale relays. Signed to a two-year, $15MM contract last winter, Miley has made four starts and thrown 12 1/3 innings of 6.57 ERA ball in a Cincinnati uniform. Fortunately for the team, its rotation has still been among the league’s best because of the work of Trevor Bauer, Luis Castillo, Sonny Gray and Tyler Mahle.
- The Dodgers scratched third baseman Justin Turner from their game against the Athletics on Tuesday because of left hamstring discomfort, Ken Gurnick of MLB.com tweets. The Dodgers said the move was precautionary, but it’s worth noting that Turner missed a couple weeks earlier this month with a left hamstring strain. So, this latest issue could be a concern for the Dodgers as they approach the playoffs.

Rocco Baldelli is gonna be pissed!

“Per manager Jake Odorizzi”. At least as Player-Manager, the Twins will get a bit more out of Jake for their $17,800.000.00 investment in 2020 performance.

The Dodgers can be cautious with Turner because they have a solid lead in the standings. I will point out, however, that people in general, and journalists in particular, spoke about the the Dodgers as having a handle on the division when Turner went down and missed several games recently, and it did not take long for the Padres to get within 1 1/2 games of the Dodgers with Turner out. During that time I kept bringing up the fact that the Dodgers lead shrunk quickly while Turner was out. They need him healthy enough to bat in the playoffs, because that lineup has been deceptively weak without his presence. Looking at the numbers for a while now, it is very surprising that they are doing so well. Thank goodness for Betts and Seager.

“Weak without his presence”….. Opposing pitchers would strongly disagree
The Human Rain Delay
They lead the majors in Hrs with Turner contributing an almighty 2 –
Sd has gained exactly 0 games on the Dodgers since the trade deadline and had their hope eliminated last night as Turner rested on the Bn all night

Turner’s power is down but he still gets on base at an ungodly rate. Any lineup would be better with him in it, even the Dodgers, especially with Muncy starting out bad and only getting worse. And don’t look now but the Padres have the second-best record in the NL. Their task at the deadline wasn’t so much catching the Dodgers as being prepped for the postseason. It would be foolish to think they aren’t ready to compete in October.

It’s also worth noting that Rios is a solid option at third when Turner is out. He is always a threat at the plate and plays solid defense. I don’t always agree with Friedman’s decisons, but overall he has put together a great organization, top to bottom, going beyond just the players, and he is a very good gm/pres whatever you want to call him. I really think the Dodgers need Turner in the lineup, though, if only to DH.
BlueSkies_LA
Well yes they can afford to be cautious with Turner but this comes with a warning signal. Turner was DH-ing until last night. We’ll see if he’s back in the lineup tonight but with only five games to go that isn’t much time to evaluate his situation and determine if he can even DH in the playoffs. If he was unable the absence would be felt for sure.

Maybe Miley can be another lefty out of the bullpen. But wow, what an awful pickup. Every year the Reds have an awful SP signing where it seems the fans know more than the front office Is any Reds fan surprised by Miley’s season? Highly doubtful…
DarkSide830
i think if it was just one year it wouldnt have been bad, but the way Miley crumbled last year two (much less two plus an option with a buyout) was too much.

Dodgers are OVERRATED!!
