The Indians have designated right-hander Dominic Leone for assignment, the team announced. They recalled righty Cam Hill to take Leone’s roster spot.
Leone was an offseason minor league signing for the Indians, with whom he cracked the roster but had a rough time over 9 2/3 innings before they designated him. The 28-year-old did rack up 16 strikeouts in that span, but he also gave up nine earned runs on 14 hits and five walks. This will go down as the second straight difficult campaign for Leone, who struggled to a 5.53 ERA/5.45 FIP over 40 2/3 innings as a Cardinal in 2019.
Not too long ago, Leone was an eminently valuable member of Toronto’s bullpen, as he logged a 2.56 ERA/2.94 FIP with 10.36 K/9 and 2.94 BB/9 in 70 1/3 innings in 2017. The Blue Jays traded Leone to the Cardinals in a deal for outfielder Randal Grichuk during the ensuing winter, but Leone hasn’t really been the same since he battled right biceps problems in his first season in St. Louis.

Now he can go back to making Spaghetti Westerns.
Monkey’s Uncle
Leone’s recent statistical years have been the Good, the Bad, and the Ugly.

Well done.

Dude. He’s been here for a week and has only been in three games

Would you prefer Sandy Leon?

I’ve never seen a catcher in the majors, especially one that is considered a defensive catcher have so many batter interferences in a season. This is even a short one! I’ll take hedges over Leon every time.

What are you really expecting from him anyway? Look at his track record. He has some of the ugliest slash lines you can find in the majors for five years now. He was brought in for his work behind the plate and that is all.

I love going back and reading the comments on old trades like the linked Grichuk deal. It is just amusing to see people so passionately arguing for things destined to fail. (Although my long forgotten comment from back then proved correct.) It makes you think about how passionately you want to argue about current trades as well. Sometimes trades that look great turn out poorly and vice versa.

I dont know his pitch usage sense he left the jays. He threw his cutter alot then, wonder if the changed when he left. I know at the time i wasn’t happy he was traded

Uuhhhh………….. I don’t want to say I told you so,but Christian Arroyo hit another home run today for the Red Sox …………..ummmmm. Oh it’s all right though because we really got a heck of haul for him. Let’s see what did we get when we dfa’d him? Oh that’s right. the middle of a doughnut. Willi Castro and Christian Arroyo. Do you think we could have used them both since we went on this losing streak. Both under 24. Oh are we going to pay the price for a long time to come.
