Twins Activate Rich Hill, Outright Cory Gearrin

By Connor Byrne | August 19, 2020 at 5:53pm CDT

The Twins have activated left-hander Rich Hill from the injured list, the team announced. They also outrighted reliever Cory Gearrin to their alternate site after he cleared waivers and optioned righty Zack Littell.

Hill, who will start the Twins’ game against the Brewers on Wednesday, missed roughly three weeks with shoulder fatigue. While injuries have been a consistent problem during Hill’s late-career renaissance, he has offered front-line numbers with several teams when he has been able to take the mound. The 40-year-old has made just one start this season for the Twins, who signed him during the offseason, but it was an effective one, as he threw five innings of scoreless, two-hit, two-walk ball in a win over the Cardinals. He’ll rejoin a Twins rotation that has gotten superb production from Kenta Maeda and Randy Dobnak, while Jose Berrios and Jake Odorizzi have come out of the gates slowly.

The well-traveled Gearrin, 34, signed with the Twins on a minors pact in the offseason. He threw two scoreless innings for the team Aug. 9 before it designated him for assignment.

He’ll probably get a blister putting on his uniform.

It has to be really frustrating as a fan to have Rich Hill on your team. He still seems to be capable of ace like production but it’s just a tease because you won’t see him in a full season of work. You most likely won’t even get 20 starts from the guy.

No matter what way you look at it, I wouldn’t call it “ace” production because his curveball is a recipe for injury. If your only means of success is throwing a curveball that gets you injured, you’re not very successful.

Hill’s nasty curve is well worth watching.

“While injuries have been a consistent problem during Hill’s late-career renaissance …”

Injuries are also the reason he had a late-career renaissance. BTW, he has signed with the Red Sox as a free agent SIX times! Look it up.

I did look it up, and the story checks out.

Won’t be long until Rich “the walking injury” Hill will end up back on the Injury list

he wanted to get on it quickly, so he could get the jump on pujols in terms of being the first man to hit the injury list in the 00’s, 10’s, and 20’s.
