The Tigers have placed first baseman C.J. Cron on the 10-day injured list, per a club announcement. Infielder Willi Castro was recalled to take the open roster spot.
The organization says that Cron has been diagnosed with a left knee sprain. It remains to be seen if there’s any greater damage to the joint.
Cron left last night’s game after attempting to field a liner. The 30-year-old left the field gingerly. Hopefully he has avoided significant damage.
The Tigers find themselves in competitive position a couple weeks into the season, thanks in no small part to contributions from their new first bagger. Cron has turned in a .190/.346/.548 batting line in 52 plate appearances. Despite the sub-Mendoza batting average, that’s good for a 146 wRC+.

Saw the play live last night, looked like a rocket line drive off his kneecap. This is much better news.

Wasn’t a line drive off the knee, they showed the replay and you could tell he rolled his knee after the ball had hit him

.190 and still a 146 WRC.. that’s kinda neat
but I’m a HUGE cron fan since he was an Angel and this is tough news, hopefully nothing major and he can come back to a full time spot and show hes got some more in that tank! Trumbo 2.0

If you didnt see the play, what a play it was Daniel Norris finished it off in fine fashion.

Dang it. I had the over on Cron at 9.5 homers for the season. He was on pace for that before the injury. Hopefully he can come back.

You care more about a bet than a young man’s health?

I had over on 9.5 too dang it

Hopefully he will be back soon. It will be interesting to see how they work the infield now. Do they play Willis Castro at SS and move Goodrum to 3B? Leave Goodrum at SS and move Harold Castro in at 3B? Has Lugo earned any playing time? It seems Candelario will be the 1B until he’s back.

The first option certainly has the most upside. Lugo hasn’t shown anything to indicate he deserves more playing time. Harold isn’t a bad bat late in the lineup, but he’s a slap hitter with little power. He’s better served in a utility role

The liner hit him direct on his knee but you could also tell he twisted it and looked like it could possibly be an ACL/MCL type of injury. From reading articles out of Detroit it sounds like the jury is still out on their being further damage. Wouldn’t be shocked to see him done for awhile, if not the year. Sucks too b/c he may only be hitting .194 but he protects Miggy in the lineup and plays a great 1st base. Get back soon CJ
